-R-R-
Platform: PC GTA IV – Complete Edition downloaded with Steam System: MB: ASUS P7P55D-E (all updates) CPU: Intel Core i7 870 2,93Ghz RAM: 4GB DDR3 GPU: XFX Radeon HD 5770 XXX 1GB (driver: AMD Catalyst 11.02) Sound card: ASUS Xonar DX (newest driver: 7.12.8.1792) OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 (6.1, build 7601) Screen resolution: 1920 × 1080 60Hz DirectX: 11 ------------------------------------------- Problem: I can play the game well, but once in a while I hear a cracking noise. I have this in-game, even when options through the menu and during loading screens. This is compared annoying. It is the first time I turn on GTA IV this machine. The following did not help: - reinstall the game - reinstall the latest sound driver - reinstall the latest graphics driver - set another soundcard mode - Check update DirectX and Windows - set in the menu or GTA IV 'stereo ' or 'headphone' - add comandline "full-spec audio 'or'-minspecaudio ' - install other non-steam version of GTA IV with patch 1.07 (the same result) - turn off other sounddevices (microphones including) except the default playback device I think this is a problem of my ASUS sound card. Does anyone have a solution to this problem or something what I can try?

YankeesPwnMets
Have you tried to use the onboard motherboard sound instead of using a sound card?
-R-R-
Thanks for your reply. I just removed my ASUS soundcard from the system and removed the driver. Than I turn on my onboard sound and started GTA IV. I have no problems observed. This seems to me now definitely a driver problem of the soundcard. mkey82
Not necessarily, GTAIV is know to have issues with various sound cards.

Try to ask ASUS and Rockstar support to maybe find a solution for future users who might run into the same problem
radioman
Have you tried going to Start, Search(if Vista OR 7)/Run(if XP) and type in DXDIAG and press Enter, then click the Sound tab and lower the Sound Acceleration to either Basic or none.-This is assuming you have XP, if on Vista or 7, this will not work, as Sound Acceleration was disabled on on those for some reason.-I had to guess here, since you failed to mention your OS(at the time this was posted). Also, Have you tried "rolling back" to an earlier driver version? Do you have the latest SP for Windows-which is SP3 for XP, SP2 for Vista and SP1 for 7. Also, Do you have mods installed-if so, then that's the problem, here's proof of that from Justin(a moderator): If you've got a problem and you're using mods, the problem is the mods - no questions. Also, Do you have a Recording line activated? if not, then try activating a recording line and that should help..Here is what it should look like if you Recording line is activated. and Here's the normal playback part of the sound card. Actually, sound acceleration is enabled by default on Vista and Win 7 and it's not possible to disable it.

Actually, sound acceleration is enabled by default on Vista and Win 7 and it's not possible to disable it. I was curious about that, as on my Vista desktop and 7 laptop, there is no slider at the bottom to adjust it like there is on XP, is why I thought it was done away with on Vista and 7. Thanks for clearing that up.
-R-R-
Platform: PCOS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 (6.1, build 7601) I had to guess here, since you failed to mention your OS(at the time this was posted). As you can see in the starting post, I have Windows 7 SP1. With other soundcard driver versions I had the same problem. I’ve the standard version of GTAIV Steam without mods. Switch on/ off recording line didn't make any difference. @ YankeesPwnMets I have contacted the technical department of Rockstar and ASUS. Hopefully they will find a solution.
