Andre seems pissed. He's ready to go, he's going to explode.

Too bad he's going to explode with Matt Leinart instead of Matt Schaub. He'll be lucky to have the ball thrown anywhere near him to be caught.

Oh come on, give him a chance. I know I HAVE to but Kubiak made David Carr look sort of decent. Well not decent, but he improved his QB rating by like ten points.

Here are the numbers:

Pre-Kubiak, Carr had a quarterback rating of 73.7 (equivalent to Seattle’s Tarvaris Jackson) and a 57.8 completion percentage (on par with Washington’s Rex Grossman). With one year of Gary’s guidance, Carr turned in a 82.1 QB rating (in the neighborhood of Cincinnati’s Andy Dalton) with 68.3% completion rate (hello, Tom Brady). Carr was still hot garbage, but that was still a show of significant improvement and Kubiak's abilities.*

That's an improvement in one year, Matt Leinart has had two years with the fabled QB whisperer. tounge.gif

Not only that we run a similar system to what USC did with Matt when they (didn't) win the championship. We use lots of rollouts and PA's.

We also have a really good run offense that can help him. Seriously, if their is a team out there that can deal with losing their QB it's us.

Leinart is not good. I know many Texans fans like to believe the team won't change much because we run the ball so well, but I think you'll be surprised how different our offense is. First off, Leinart is a lefty so our entire offense must be flipped, and our line has to re-learn some protections. Second, Schaub is one of the best in the NFL at play action. Many QBs struggle in PA because it puts their back to the defense, and have trouble turning around and making quick decisions after the fake handoff. Schaub excels at this. He is also effective in bootlegs as part of that PA. Leinart has always struggled with this dating back to his USC days.

Due to Schaub's accuracy and effectiveness in play action, defenses are forced to honor our passing game and cannot stack 8 and 9 in the box to stop the run game. With Leinart coming in, opposing defenses will be able to key in on the rushing attack and force Leinart to beat them through the air. That could be a recipe for disaster. It doesn't matter to me what Kubiak did with Carr because even with that slight improvement, Carr was still sh*te. Maybe you don't remember how bad he was? tounge.gif

There is a reason why Leinart is a career backup. He was a starter in Arizona with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to throw it to, and still couldn't produce at an effective level. He has a career 14:20 TD:INT ratio. To think our team will not take a major step back offensively under him is kidding yourself, my friend.

I know it's going to be less effective but they still have to watch out for AJ. Every tea is going to double team him so that is one less person in the box.

David Carr was a pile of sh*t but that's precisely why I trust in Kubiak to at least minimize the damage this will do. If you can make David Carr and Sage Rosenfels look good I'm damn sure we can make Leinart look good. Especially since we are a better overall team than compared to "those" days.

@Doom. Yes, just enough passing to keep things honest, maybe a lob or two. I know Leinart doesn't have much of an arm but neither did Schaub so besides the flipping of plays it's about the same offense. Short to medium passes.

Like Forty said, people had to watch out for Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin... but the problem was is that Leinart couldn't throw to them for sh*t it was really unfortunate. Wishful thinking, but you guys are better off handing the ball off to Foster and Tate 20 or 30 times each.

I agree with you somewhat about Schaub not being a great deep ball passer, but he has improved in the past couple seasons. I just have no respect for Leinart's abilities, and for me, anything resembling Alex Smith or better will work. Just manage the game, make a couple key third down passes when necessary, and protect the football. Let our defense and rushing attack win the game without making it harder on them.

This isn't NFL-related but did anyone see Oklahoma State lose to Iowa State in double OT last night? ISU was down 3 scores in the second half and came roaring back to win it in extra time. f*cking bad ass underdog win. Now the only undefeated team in the land is LSU.

I love the curse of number two; cannot stand Oklahoma State for many reasons, even in spite of Barry Sanders.

Now the questions are: 1. Is there really a fair way to break a nine-way tie? 2. ...why the f*ck is undefeated Houston STILL excluded from the top ten, in the same way Boise constantly is? 3. Can any of the one-loss teams really beat LSU? (Honestly, I'd love to see the Cardinal win this year. Not a championship since 1926 or Heisman winner since Jim Plunkett in '70.)

Tim motherf*cking Tebow. I must say this dude knows how to win.

I didn't catch the end of the game, but early 4th quarter Tebow had 3.5 points for my fantasy team and he finished with 16 for the night. I don't know what happened, but he suddenly got 60 more rush yards and TD after I left the house. I need to check Sportscenter man.

Say what you want about Tebow. He's a terrible pocket passer and needs a LOT of work as a QB in general, but the guy truly knows how to win. It's amazing really.

Jet ineptitude is what happened. The defense had Tebow on lockdown for 55 minutes, then all of a sudden, they forgot to tackle on the final drive. Jets could have had a safety on the first play if Jim Leonard makes the tackle. And why would Rex Ryan call an all-out blitz on a dude who couldn't hit the side of a barn??? Stupid. A disgraceful loss by the Jets, letting Tebow drive the ball 95 yards on you. They'll have to win out to have a chance at a wildcard.

I don't care who's quarterbacking for the Eagles tonight, my Giants better be ready. It's desperation time for Philly, so you know this will be a war.

I really don't want to see an LSU/Alabama rematch for the championship but all the voters are sucking the SEC cock and it's very annoying. I cannot watch a 9-6 championship game in college. Say what you want about the defenses being great but they also both have terrible offenses.

Houston won't get any respect. It's unfortunate that a school could be 10-0 and be completely disregarded by the national media.

edit: Looks like Houston is #8 in the latest AP poll. Bad ass! GO COOGS!

I agree with you. I gotta love the SEC, but a conference matchup is such an awful idea. (Last year's Championship was awesome, the Dirty South versus the Wild West.) F*ck V-Tech, O-State, and Bama; Stanford or Boise for #2.

Also: did not foresee in any way, shape, or form the upset by the Kiffins over Oregon, and that's not only because I bleed Vol orange and white.

I want to talk college football. We need a thread. Though I would rant forever so maybe not. Good to see there are more college fans on here besides me.

I'm sick of the SEC. I will refuse to watch a national championship game between two SEC teams, one of whom didn't even make the conference championship game. Plus I don't want to watch a field goal battle all night. I will watch every bowl but the championship.

Ok now just to throw an NFL comment out there to keep a little on track. Raiders are first in AFC west which makes me happy. I know it's not much since the AFC west sucks but when you have sucked since 2002 you take what you can get. tounge.gif

Same reason I'm happy for the Texans being the #1 seed in the AFC right now. They've never been that, nor ever been 7-3. Houston has waited yeeeaaars for a decent football team.

Oh, and great news as a Lions fan: CUTLER'S OUT FOR AT LEAST 6 WEEKS. Who's the playoff "bubble" now? Prediction: Lions go 11-5 and make #5 seed with a huge upset over the Packers on Thanksgiving OR a close win over the Saints. Can't wait for Thursday.

Ehhhh I don't know if I can get on board with that. Your Lions were lucky to win yesterday in a massive shootout against a sh*tty Carolina team at home. That doesn't bode well going into a short week wherein they host the defending Superbowl champs led by a guy who is about to blast all the QB single-season records to pieces. I'm not saying they have no shot, or that they will get their asses handed to them. I'm just saying that I don't see them winning this game. The Saints will be tough too because you're going to the Superdome where they're almost invincible. I wish the Lions luck, though. They're a ton of fun to watch and Stafford is my QB in fantasy.

Still, having said all that.....f*ck the Bears. I can't stand Cutler. icon13.gif

Did all the Houston people turn there backs on the Cowboys once Houston got a team?

A few Texans fans are former oilers fans that basically had no team for the years they were gone. The rest are probably just people who live in Houston that wanted to support their local team.

I'm so disgusted with the Giants. They KNEW the Eagles were a hungry and desperate team, yet they came out with no fire. Dropped passes, o-line got b!tch-slapped, no running game and the defense lets VY go 6-for-6 on third down conversions on Philly's final drive.

With their schedule(Saints, Packers, Cowboys twice, Jets & 'Skins). looks like another Giant collapse under Tom Coughlin.

Whats wrong with Alex Smith? Too many people hate on the guy. He and Frank Gore have led that team to where they are now, and Smith is one of the most efficent passers in the league. He doesn't have 400 yard games because Harbaugh's offense isnt designed for that. Short, quick, accurate passes to move the ball downfield. He led them back against a hugely favored Eagles team in week 4 in the second half. Dont count Smith out. He's the most underrated Quarterback in the NFL imho. Alongside maybe Andy Dalton or Carson Palmer.

People who were Oilers fans were never Cowboys fans. Some of them are still loyal to the Titans, but I'd say 90% of Houston football fans are Texans fans.

I was born and raised on the Cowboys. They are my #1 team and I support them above all else. But I have lived in Houston for 16 years and come to love the Texans as well. And, unlike the rest of the people in Houston, I don't consider the Cowboys a rival. They really have nothing to do with each other. I wish more people here got that concept.

I have a soft spot in my heart for kapp though. Not because of anything he did in the NFL but because of his loyalty to the Cal Bears. He has stuck around his alma mater forever. You can tell I'm more of a college fan than NFL. And by my posts about the raiders and cal you could probably tell where I'm from. tounge.gif

I think the Seahawks could go 4-0 the next four games. Its feasibly possible. We play the "meh" Redskins, then Philly on TNF on NFLN, then the Rams on MNF all three are in Seattle and then we travel to Chicago to face the Bears and with out Cutler it could be interesting. The Hawks have one of the top Run stopping defenses so if they can limit Forte to as little yards as possible thats a winnable game too... and then back to Seattle to Play the Niners and then to Arizona to take on the Cards... Theres a possibility by some grace of the football gods that Seattle could finish 10-6...

The Hawks main issues are QB play and PENALTIES... i understand a couple for hard hits but when we get false starts that move us from 3 and inches to 3 and 11 it gets a bit ridiculous... I think the NFC West for the next few years could be an interesting division. Two young teams being lead by successful former college coaches that have been successful so far in the pros. Plus both HCs are HUGE rivals (Harbaugh and Carroll).

While I like your optimism, the Bears without Cutler shouldn't be underestimated. Caleb Hanie gave GB a run for their money in last year's NFC Championship game. And beyond that, the bears have proven to be a hell of a defense, too. Just look at how they cleaned out Detroit two weeks ago
