I say keep it how it is.. I think it'll be to easy if I'm in a shoot out and all I have to do is take cover behind the wall for a few seconds and I'm back to 100%

But the great thing about RDR with RH is that it only takes max two shots to kill someone with the best gun and thats not even a headshot. So as long as they decrease how much damage you can take the RH System would work perfectly but were going to have to see what LA.Noire does to speculate more on the idea.

Exactly.

And someone else mentioned post-mission dumb death. Nothing like surviving a shoot-out and then dying from being nudged by a car.

Well the option to not get hit by a car is also on the table, as well as not getting shot up during the mission. But I totally understand the draw of blaming a game for a mistake the player made(getting hit by a car post mission)

If they do offer a regeneration system I hope they'd also let us play the traditional way, sort of like how some people play with auto aim off and don't save/reload everytime somthing doesn't go perfectly.

Wow, way to miss my point and be a dick about it. I was referring to how unrealistic the system was.

It's unrealistic for me to suggest that getting hit by a car should result in death, after you've just been shot to sh*t?

And pointing that out makes me a dick? Wow, harden up dude.

They have taken a 'realistic' approach with IV, so why not health regeneration as well?

I would like a slooow regeneration though. For example, an empty health bar will fully regenerate over 24 in game hours. If you sit down on a park bench or something, it should regenerate at twice the rate, 12 hours. And sleeping is 6 hours for full health.

This way it should not impact missions a lot, but it will save you some trips to burger shot.

Let me get this straight.

You'd rather sit down on a park bench for 12 in game hours (about 15 minutes) and do absolutely NOTHING but wait to regenerate health; instead of just hitting up a Burger Shot, Cluckin' Bell, Sprunk/Cola machine, hospital health pack, sleeping, sex, etc?

To each their own (clearly I like things the way they are), but characterizing regeneration as more realistic is false imo. People don't heal that well from injury without even basic medical attention, or a Bleeder Burger cool.gif

Again if they do offer it, I'd hope they'd also allow us to play the way they've conditioned us to all these years.

I blame Halo for this feature being in so many games today.

I voted for a health bar. The Game is easy enough as it is with stupid AI. Why make it easier? Personally I wouldn't mind a more realistic regeneration of your life bar. Or even having the Playable character carrying heath packs (like GRAW 2) to keep your vitality out of the red. But HELL NO to regeneration.

Don't blame Halo. The very first Halo actually had health bar/packs. Halo 2 and 3 had regeneration with shields and they actually went back to formula with health bar/packs in ODST and Reach. Blame Call of Duty. They alway had regenerating health which always bothered me even though I went along with it.

I stand corrected, good accuracy.

Didn't Call of Duty I had health bars? I don't remember much about it.

I vote for other. Heres why. I think damage taken from gunshots, knives, fire, and explosions should be permanent. Damage from falls, punches, and getting hit by cars should be regenerated after 10 secs or so later provided you take no more damage during that time. If you do, that also becomes permanent.

That's my basic idea concerning health in GTA.

That's actually a very good idea. I'll vote for other for the same reason stated, I like it. icon14.gif

You're wrong, the first Call of Duty had a healthbar. And even though I'm unsure about having it in GTA I must admit that I think Health regen is better than a bar in call of duty, I found that to be a good upgrade in CoD2.

After further looking around it does appear that COD 1 did in fact have a health bar. But back to the issue at hand. I still think Health regeneration has had a detrimental effect on shooters as a whole and FPS specifically. They are too easy!! GTA games are easy enough with stupid AI. My question to those that want regen: Do you like easy games??

I voted for other. I would like a health bar that regenerates very gradually (maybe 1% per second or even slower than that). That way, first-aid kits and other health pick-ups would still be necessary during firefights, but you could afford to get banged up a bit more when free roaming and not have to waste time looking for health.

Edit: Having a non-regenerating health bar along with the ability to carry extra food or first-aid kits for quick access would be good as well. I also like the idea of body armor not wearing out, but instead protecting only the torso against all pistol, SMG, and shotgun fire, as well as lessening the harm done by assault rifles and sniper rifles.

Only up to a point. like for example only regenerating 10% of health over a long time, out of combat. that would be reasonable

Personally I think 2 options should be applied in the start menu.

1) Health bar and Aiming lock on

2) Health regeneration and free aim (Like Mafia II)

It makes sense because if you have aiming lock on it's easier, and theres less chance of you getting hurt therefore health bar would be the sensible option.

If you have free aim then it's harder and more chance of you getting shot in cross firings therefore it's logical to have health regeneration so you can take cover, heal a little and shoot again.

This. But there should be an option to turn auto-aim off.

BTW, GTA doesn't have a main menu

Sorta like Just Cause 2 (and maybe JC1, which I've never played), where a minor loss of health can fully regenerate, but a severe loss of health only partially regenerates. I like that.

I voted for health bar, it's basically one of the key elements in GTA, if it's not there it would make the gameplay seem really different(I saw this in RDR), all I simply had to do was take cover for a bit and I'm fine. I'm hoping Rockstar will continue using the health bar.

How about something like like:

Your health bar wraps completely around the mini map,

But it's divided into 4 quarters.

Health regenerates within the current quarter.

So, let's say you take some heavy damage and your health falls

just below the 3/4 mark. Well, from then on it'll only regenerate to 3/4

unless you grab some food/health

So on and so forth.

I think it's be great for taking lighter damage,

but still give it the old GTA feel, which I rather enjoy.

I think a good system would allow you to regenerate up to 20% higher than the lowest point to which your health has dropped since your last health pick-up. For instance, if you got shot and your health dropped to 80%, you could regenerate fully, but if it dropped to 79%, you could only regenerate to 99%. If it dropped to 1%, you could only regenerate to 21%. Body armor would still be availabe, but as I said earlier, it should not wear out. The body armor would only protect your torso, and it would only stop pistol, SMG, and shotgun rounds, while reducing the harm caused by rifle rounds.

Heh ,I can't believe you people are actually considering health regen. All the games that have it are kinda lame cause they're too easy.I played uncharted on my cousin's PS3(I have an xbox) and I was just killing all the soldiers,I felt like f*ckin' rambo, and I shouldn't...

My stance on health regeneration remains the same. I believe it was the first Mercenaries game that featured health regeneration only up to 20%. So I'd go with something like that. Meaning, we'd have a regular health bar and health pickups, but once your health goes down past 20%, it regenerates. No worries though, as you could still be killed in one shot with most guns, and pretty much any other weapon.

This.

I hate health regeneration and I'd hate it most of all in GTA. Effectively every vehicle would become a little hospital, jump in and drive away, and you're guaranteed to get out healthier than you went in. That would ruin the game. I like the hamburger stands, because they blend into the environment and it takes time to order so you can't expect to use them easily if you're in some kind of trouble. That's perfect.

However, I don't like health bars much either. I'd like to see the screen become less cluttered, and IV showed the way to do that. You knew when you were messed up by the bloodstains on your clothes, and if it was up to me the state of your clothes would be your only health indicator.
