17 minutes into the episode

I definitely think he's wrong, he made some valid points, but it's not coming this year, never. It would be a dream come true and I would be so happy, but it's not gonna happen.

I'm atleast hoping we get a trailer on e3

Long Haired Freaky Guy
Again, a revolutionary quote from... Pachter ! This guy is a god.

...

Until we see an annoucement we will just take your comment with a grain and pinch of salt happy.gif

Or with the sarcasm that he intended to put across?

Definitely doubt a 2011 release, but a mid-summer 2012 release looks about right.

No GTA V Until 2011? News

Take 2 Interactive mentions a mystery triple-A title in its fiscal 2009 financial results...

    * GTA V

    * Rockstar

    * Take 2 Interactive

As part of its fiscal 2009 financial results, Take 2 Interactive has mentioned an unannounced  triple-A title that it's delaying and seemingly pushing into the company's 2011 fiscal year (between November 1st 2010 and October 31st 2011).

The financial report explains why Take 2 is forecasting a loss for its 2010 fiscal year (ending October 31st 2010) and then drops in this juicy nugget: "The company's expected fiscal 2010 results primarily reflect the movement of one triple-A title out of the fiscal year."

In addition to the movement of this mystery triple-A title out of the 2010 fiscal year, Take 2 is also forecasting a net loss for the year, which is a clear indication that 2010 will not be a GTA year for Take 2 Interactive and Rockstar.

Take 2's financial past shows that the publisher has struggled to post a profit in years where it hasn't had a triple-A GTA release. With the company stating that this year's forecasted losses "primarily reflect the movement of one triple-A title out of the fiscal year", this could mean that the triple-A title in question is a GTA release.

"We're certainly not saying that we can't be profitable in a non-GTA release year," said Take 2's Chairman, Strauss Zelnick in a post-earnings conference call when asked whether investors should assume that the publisher won't turn a profit in a non-GTA year.

"We remain committed to that goal and naturally we're disappointed that we're not projecting to achieve that goal in 2010," Zelnick continued. "Frankly we believe that goal is achievable, we know the steps we need to take to achieve it and we are - although this may not be the moment to say it - quite proud of the progress we've added in that direction."

Zelnick was also quick to dismiss the idea that GTA could be made into an annually released series (like Activision's Call of Duty games). "We don't feel that GTA ought to be an annualised franchise." Zelnick stated. "I have a strong point of view about annualisation which we've talked about before."

"Of course there's a balance between how long it takes to develop such an incredible title and meet consumer expectations," he continued, "and how long you need to make sure that an appetite has been both satisfied and whetted for the next franchise. That's something I think the company has historically done rather well and I think the high profitability and resiliency of the franchise reflects that. So I wouldn't see that changing."

Getting back to the mystery triple-A title that Take 2 mentioned, Zelnick wasn't revealing any details. "We have not previously announced the title so we can't give you more colour on it," he said. It sounds suspiciously like GTA V to us. As always, we welcome your thoughts in the comments...

GTA V coming in 2011?

Speaking to GI.biz, Kaufman Bros analyst Todd Mitchell has revealed that he expects Rockstar to launch two new DLC episodes for GTA IV in 2010, before GTA V arrives in 2011.

The expert also sees a new GTA title being released for the PS2 in the year ahead.

"I would expect that there would be two more pieces of downloadable content for GTA IV, thats what has been indicated to me, although formats are unsure," Mitchell explained. "It's been indicated to me that would be the case.

"Coming out of E3 there was no commitment to a new Grand Theft Auto, and I think that's because of Rockstars track record with delivering on time."

The analyst admits he isn't sure about the new PS2 title - although he notes that PS2 and PSP releases have often been shared in the past, making Chinatown Wars a PS2 possibility.

Mitchell also notes that through games like Agent, BioShock 2 and Red Dead Redemption Take-Two are moving away from being all about GTA, becoming a "proper company", as he puts it. More soon.

Has you can see amany sites are saying GTA V 2011, but these are the analyst that say things because of the fiscal financial result over a period of time and how they think things will be. They are in some case's not to be trusted and get it wrong alot. So what Michael Pachter Says "GTA 5 Comes This Year" is alot of far fetched thinking and i take it as not solid info and will wait until either E3 or Rockstar telling us this year and even better still waiting until they tell us next year

This has been posted before, but in another form.

People always said how Pachter's a douche, but I have to say this video changed my mind. Because he is always being rational, and I think that this prediction is more rational than any other I remember having taken part of. He definitely has a point to that if the Houser's contracts are expiring at the end of the year, it was probably part of the deal that they'd release a new GTA, and if not, they should at least want to do it in order to have a good position in the negotiaions.

Now, I can't say it's going to happen, but it does make a lot of sense.

They started after the release of IV. If the announcement is this year @ E3, it will be released 1st or 2nd half of 2012, if not, I will go with 2013.

But becouse of the same engine they will use, like they told, I believe they will go with 2012, becouse 4 years is enough time to do a new GTA. It was 4 years between San Andreas and IV, VCS and LCS do not count, they were made by R* Leeds and then imported from R* North or Leeds to PS2.

I mean 4 years for IV + a new engine and 4 years for just a new title without a new engine.

So, that's my opinion.

God damnit! Why didn't they immediatly start working on it after The Ballad Of Gay Tony?  facedesk.gif

What are you on about? I'm sure they did. Hell, probably even before.

I would say they started working on It just after IV release.

@ II Goonah II: Why not 2013? Think about It, LA Noire release 2011, Agent release 2012 and GTA V release 2013. I'm sure Rockstar won't release two major projects In one year but then again 2013 Is ages away, too long.

I do believe R* will release two major projects in one year, we'll have L.A. Noire in May, soon after GTAV should get announced (at E3 or something) then the second or first quarter of 2012 will be the time we finally get our hands on it. Even though Agent will come out then, it's a PS3 exclusive and I do not believe it's that great of a title, I even believe they may release it after GTAV.
