Ai®a©ob®a
i watched "going clear: scientology and the prison of belief".. it was pretty interesting i am a cock gobbler and i love to gobble cocks I watched that on HBO Go as well and like you found it quite interesting... I read a blog a while back by an ex Sea Org member and the stuff those kids go though is horrible and i think they are the only "organization" in the U.S who would ever get away with bullying the IRS for tax-exempt status. sebcreed
Cocaine Cowboys I keep forgetting to mention this here. Anyone interested in the Miami drug trade in the 70's and 80's (and I'll bet there are a few of you) should see this doc. It features interviews with some of the actual players in the trade at the time along with members of law enforcement and archival news footage. The score for the film was even composed and performed by Jan Hammer. Highly recommended. QUOTE In the 1980s, ruthless Colombian cocaine barons invaded Miami with a brand of violence unseen in this country since Prohibition-era Chicago - and it put the city on the map. "Cocaine Cowboys" is the true story of how Miami became the drug, murder and cash capital of the United States, told by the people who made it all happen. YES! I was going to mention this documentary. Its easily one of my favorites. ''Raconteur: someone who is good at telling stories.'' If you liked that then you'd probably like ''How to Make Money Selling Drugs'' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1276962/ Dont let the title put you off, watch the trailer first. The Time Ranger
Reginald D Hunter has a good three part series on the BBC called Songs of the South. ṼirulenⱦEqừinox
Just finished watching Wild Wild Country on Netflix Sex, Lies and Osho: The Terror and Beauty of Netflix's 'Wild Wild Country - Documentary about Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh aka "The Rolls Royce Guru" and his followers, in Oregon. Like most successful romances, this relationship too was built on Folie à deux, or the Folly of Two, a psychiatric condition where the delusion of one partner is transmitted to the other. But there was one key difference – thousands shared that delusion in Rajneeshpuram, a commune established by Rajneesh’s followers in Oregon’s Wasco County in the early ’80s. And nothing was out of bounds for them – neither immigration fraud nor mass poisoning or attempted murders. The potential for drama here is immense, evoking a famous Leo Tolstoy line, “All great literature is one of the two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town.” Full Story It's on Netflix now and well worth the watch Mister Pink 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/470153-documentaries-discussion/?do=findComment&comment=1070169371 Share on other sites
Mister Pink
That's on my list ^ - Heard great things about it. Love stuff about cults. Anybody see the Whitney Houston documentary, its on Netflix? It's pretty heartbreaking. I was never a fan of hers but damn do I respect the talent she had and her story is just very tragic, especially when there were people around her that saw the downward spiral she got stuck in and tried to prevent it but were shut down by other forces. She seemed like a good person and it was hard to watch, very sad indeed. The documentary itself is a feature-length and focusses on the relationships around her that ultimately led to where she was. It doesn't try point the finger but present some insight in to her personal life. It's tasteful and sensitive but doesn't shy away from some of the difficult stuff but at the same time it isn't tabloid and sensationalist. I thought this was the new film about her but I was wrong. This one is called Can I Be Me? It's actually by Nick Broomfield (Biggie & Tupac, Kurt & Courtney). Definitely well worth a watch. ṼirulenⱦEqừinox
Today marks the 80th anniversary of Orson Wells causing a mass panic of an alien invasion while he was doing a play based on the book War Of The Worlds. Sometimes I'll add something but it's all there in my list. I hope you enjoy Icarus. Thankfully, I watched it without seeing the trailer or anything so it was all a surprise. That's not to say you wont be surprised in the documentary itself. So, going back to Wild Wild Country. I thought it was kind of slow in the first episode but I kind of forgot it's a series, so of course, they can deep dive and set up things before the really crazy things begin to happen. It's absolutely superb. I'm kind of in love with Ma Anand Sheela. I know she did terrible things but her sassy and bold character was very attractive. She's kind of an anti-hero in the series. Mister Pink
Sorry for the double post but a good doc on Netflix if you are into music and/or true crime. Been a fan of Run DMC since I was about 12/13. Was shocked with Jam Master Jay was shot dead. Especially since Run DMC weren't gangsta and weren't involved in crime and they actually spoke out against things like dropping out of school etc. Jam Master Jay was well loved and everyone spoke really highly of him. His friends and family are interviewed and we do learn that Jay did get up to some nefarious things later on when he money started to dwindle. He was the one responsible for Run DMC's trademark look with the Adidas, leather and no shoelaces etc. Also in the doc, I was surprised to see DJ Hurricane. I remember he used to DJ for the Beastie Boys and he was a friend of Jay.
