Were any of you here from the beginning?

Funny you should mention where you began to play GTA, because I pondered on that question about a week ago.

Anyway, here is when I bought each game (by year). They are all 100% accurate, except GTA: London 1969:

GTA 1 - 1997

GTA: London 1969 - 1999 or 2000

GTA: London 1961 - 2000

GTA 2 - Late 2000 (Around November or December)

GTA III - 2001

GTA: Vice City - 2002

GTA: San Andreas - 2004 (I believe the first or second day on the shelves)

GTA: Advance - 2004

GTA: Liberty City Stories - 2005

GTA: Vice City Stories - 2006

GTA IV - 2008 (Definitely the first day)

GTA TLAD and TBoGT - 2010 (Both on the EFLC)

GTA Chinatown Wars - 2010

I started wit' GTA 1 at 1998, mah ver' good friend had it, and so I wanted GTA as well, I enjoyed it so much, I didn't care about when GTA 2 came out.

I think every GTA series-fan should try GTA 1 first, as it's a complete coverage for the other GTAs in the series.

i think i was about 10 when i first tasted gta round a friends, how we howled at the theme music when it goes "f*cked on crack" unaware what crack was at the time, let alone why you would be f*cked on it.

this theme is my ringtone on my phone, and i cant ever answer the phone until the music starts,

good shot kid, you got him

friends often wonder why i answer the phone after the same amount of rings everytime. biggrin.gif

I started with Vice City at my cousin's house at Christmas time. Then, I played III, and San Andreas. That's only after a while that I found a Play Station copy of GTA and GTA: London 1969 (or 1961?). After that, I got Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories at the same time.

Played a PS1 demo in '97 or 98 I think, which led me to get it asap. I remember it just being sh*t loads of fun; getting pals around to play it and seeing who could murder the most people in increasingly inventive ways. Of course it's aged, but GTA back then still holds fond memories for me – they should release a sequel.

You know R* made a lot of sequels, don't you? GTA 2, GTA III, ...

My start was GTA San Andreas. I played GTA too, but did not enjoy it as much as I did GTA2. That game's great, despite it being top-down!

But I think this game is also somehow special... After all, here is where the legendary GTA title has started!

My mate had GTA 2 for PC in 2000/2001 so that's the first GTA I played, although we had GTA 1 in the house though and I began playing that and I lator bought GTA 2 for myself(I still have my original case for GTA 1 and 2). After that I somehow skipped GTA III probably because I was so into GTA 2 or I thought that there wasn't any out at the time. Although around 2003 my brother had picked up Vice City and I began playing that, so Vice City was the first 3D GTA game I played. Soon after that I found GTA III in our games stack.

So at this point I was a major GTA fan and I would always resort to the Argos book to see when the next was coming out, which was GTA SA and I bought it on release day and since then I have bought every other GTA on release. smile.gif

So basically here's a list of the GTAs in the order that I played them:

GTA 2

GTA 1(with the London packs)

GTA Vice City

GTA III

GTA San Andreas

GTA Liberty City Stories

GTA Vice City Stories

GTA IV

GTA EFLC(Did not exactly buy it on release due to the exclusivity, bought on release for PS3)

GTA Chinatown Wars(Did not buy on release, didn't realize there was a PSP version tounge.gif)

Nope. First got hooked with GTA2 at a friends house when I was 9. It was so amazing to freely move around a virtual city and do what ever you wanted (well it felt that way at the time.) Ill always remember swerving around the streets in a Ztype and the first time I flattened that entire group of joggers. The game was funny as hell, and had a great soundtrack. Pity it was so f*cking tough, but hey that was just games at the time.

Only a couple years GTA3 came out and blew my mind. My bro bought it for me as soon as it came out and It didn't leave my PS2 for months. I must've told everyone I knew at school about it, people would always come over and we'd play it one life at a time. There was a lot of drama over it in Australia. My parents read an article on it, and whenever they came into the room when I was playing Id drive real carefully, and if they asked what game it was Id tell them it was Midnight Club hahaha. f*ck those were the days.

Really?! Holy sh*t, where have I been?!

Started with GTA on the PS1, then London '69 followed by GTA2.

When GTA III came out I wasn't that bothered with it until I realised it wasn't top down, then I was obsessed.

For VC, SA and IV I was waiting outside the games store at 7am for the doors to open so I could get my copy with my pre-order receipt. I remember pretending to be ill when VC came out so I could stay at home and play it. My mum was pissed when she came home from work at lunch to see if I was ok only to find that I had hooked my PS2 up to the widescreen in the living room.

I don't know why but I never bothered with LCS or VCS. I wish I could get hold of a PS2 now so I could play them whilst we wait for V to be announced.

And I never bothered with handhelds so I've never played Advance or CTW.

I started with GTA 1, way back when it was released, but when gta 2 was released, my pc could not handle it, so i played it until i got a new pc, but then, my new pc supported San Andreas already, so i played 1, SA, then VC, then III, then 2, then i bought a ps2, and started playing, vcs, and lcs, now i want to play Chinatown Wars.

I guess technically I started with GTA1. I played it a little bit here and there in my web site design class in high school since someone was generous enough to install it on all the lab computers. That was around 2000 I think, but I didn't know what I was doing, no maps, no instructions, so I just drove around. I didn't actually start playing it seriously until a week ago when I finally got the R* free download to work on my computer.

Other than that I didn't start playing GTA until February '08 when I opened the trilogy pack. I bought in in 2006/07, can't remember which, but I didn't have time for it until I finished school. Still feel like a late-comer to the series since I missed out on all the fun when they were first released, but honestly I don't even remember hearing about the series again until San Andreas when X-play did a review of it. By then I was so busy with other stuff I didn't bother with it until '08 like I said.

My good friend had GTA 1 and the London packs and I would go to his place and play for hours, but at the time I didn't have a PC that would run it. In 2000 I got a Dreamcast and promptly went out and bought GTA 2 and have bought ALL of the following GTA's on release day, (except Advance, and I may have been a day or two behind on III).

As shown above, im copying this to show what year and order i got what.

2001- GTA 1 and GTA 2. ( i was 6 and it was when i got my first PS1 )

2002- GTA 3 and Vice city. ( I was 7, and i got my ps2 new )

2004- GTA SA ( I was 9 )

2009- GTA LCS and VCS ( i was 13 )

2010- GTA IV ( I was 14 )

Im 17 now, and waiting for GTA V

My firsts were GTA 1 and GTA 2. Dont remember when i got the others, those dates are accurate.

I started with GTA 1 back in 1998 and have played every GTA in the order of release. Only ones I haven't played are London 61 and GTAA.

Hard to believe it's been 14 years. Only feels like yesterday myself and a mate took a copy of GTA 1 from his brother and played it on the PS1 for the first time. It's come along away.
