Wordsworth
I know the admins archive gen chat every couple years to reduce server load, and I understand why that happens. I thought for a long time that if I went to my old 40oz profile and to Find All Posts By Member that I could still see my own individual posts in old, long archived topics. Then I found out I couldn't. I was either mistaken or that feature was changed at some point. Is there any possible way to see an individual topic if I know which topic # it is in the archive? There were a couple of things I was really interested in finding. What are the chances I (or anyone, for that matter) could see some of it? There are some great moments, and some very important ones, that are now blocked from all view. PatrickW
There is currently no option to view any of the archived content. I would personally also like to have access to those, especially for the historical topics in the modding section. floof
Maybe this could help? http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.gtaforums.com Has a lot from 02-07 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469912-viewing-an-archived-topic/#findComment-1060348376 Share on other sites
Vin.
I used to use the above a fair bit. But it's hardly as good as being able to view the archived stuff in it's original form. Edit: Also Wordsworth, it might have been the fact that you used to have mod access? Perhaps you could view the archived stuff back then? Edited February 21, 2011 by Vin. Premium
Indeed, Sadly a lot of the topics themselves aren't archived. It's helpful in tracking down the topic numbers if you know the date. I guess the question is, Would it be possible for someone with access to the db to save off a specific topic, if, say, there are special circumstances involved with said topic? Maybe export the post/topic table itself or something along those lines? It'd definitely be a big favor but it wouldn't be used to request access to any old topic. Just wondering if it could theoretically be done as a one off thing or if we could look into a way to have a separate static archive of those old posts Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469912-viewing-an-archived-topic/#findComment-1060353141 Share on other sites
Wordsworth
Maybe it was when I had mod access but that was many years ago and I seem to remember it being sooner. The Web Archive site works alright, but for instance if you find an archived Gen Chat topic list from Dec 2005 or whatever, you can't see any of the threads. You can only see the Gen Chat section with the topic list. It's not a full archive. I'm not sure what could be done but I would really like to be able to see some archived topics for nostalgia and because, in the case of one thread, they have very personal interest to me and to some others. Figured I would ask. P.S. omg Premium posted! <3 Edited February 25, 2011 by Wordsworth Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469912-viewing-an-archived-topic/#findComment-1060353319 Share on other sites
