Damn, I can't choose between IV (great NYC feel) and VC, VCS (great Miami feeling from the eighties).

This. I can't decide between VC and LC.

If I really need to pick one then, VC.

i picked vice city, the 80's vibe was great.

Also a follow up on my thread about atmosphere is that i now realize iv does have an atmosphere, a good feel to it...at times, i just had to look a little harder.

For me it's no "Best" option i like all the different vibes for the different games...

For Vice city i liked the 80's and sort of morning sun-rise kind of Vibe, knowing your working for a very powerfull Mafia family, and that the city is filled with corruption, crime and cocaine!

in SA i liked the feel of being Ghetto, and the LA kind of vibe like it's a really hot and humid day and your gonna pop some heads off in the hood. I liked the sort of African american slang like "What's happnin' and Fo-sho, Nigga!"

in VCS i liked the Sun, it just felt realy realy warm! In LCS i liked the depressing, and gritty Mafioso kind of feel

And in IV, i really like the Eastern european feel from the intro theme tune, and also the feel of New York city!

VC. Although SA did have a great atmosphere in LS, the rest of the state didn't seem to have enough soul to it. Or something like that....

While i love the gritty, modern NYC feel of IV, it's got to be VC for the 80's vibe.

VCS does it really well too but VC did it first and slightly better imo.

Vice City. It was great at capturing the atmosphere it was attempting to portray.

GTA III. LC really lives up to its name of being the worst city in America. Just everything feels dark, cold, and dangerous. A really good atmosphere for the game.

VC: Everything from cruising down to Ocean Beach, or even running away from Hatians in Little Haiti gives off the perfect 80s vibe. The Malibu Club is easily one of the best places to soak up all the 80s atmosphere.

SA: Not sure what it is, but the atmosphere in SA isn't as precise as the other games. On one hand LS feels very atmospheric, and makes you feels like you're in a early 90s South Central LA hood, but the rest just doesn't seem to flow as nice. Hell sometimes I forget it's even set in 1992.

LCS: Feels too soft for LC IMO. What made GTA IIII's atmosphere chilling was the dark, and gloomy environment. It was too bright, and cheerful in LCS.

VCS: Funnily enough even though it has more of a tropical feeling, and it makes more use of neons colours I still think VC captured it better. Playing VCS after playing VC for so many years V feels similar to Scarface, and the game. I know VC was largely influenced by Scarface , but what I mean is like Scarface it's probably a bit darker than what was seen in VCS.

Basically VC is like GTA III is to LCS.

GTA IV: I really think R* out done themselves with the atmosphere in GTA IV. Everywhere you walk it feels like there's activity going on all around. Hove Beach even feels like a little piece of Eastern Europe.

TLAD: Very similar to GTA IV, but what I think really makes the atmosphere so good is the noise effect which was used in Mnahunt. Made everything feel so dirty, and filthy. Absolutely perfect for a biker themed game.

TBOGT: Alot like VC in someways. The party like atmosphere really stands out, but I don;t think it really suited the new LC that much.. What was in GTA IV, and TLAD seemed to have suited LC alot better.

As for what I think has the best? VC hands down. None of you were expecting that I'm sure. cool.gif

IMO I say IV/EFLC since it has the feeling of being in NYC. (Even though you are in NYC on IV) tounge.gif

Vice City. It had a carefree and retro feel, with the tropical weather and great radio it was almost perfect.

GTA IV didn't really have an atmosphere , I felt that was its main downfall, and SA was very vague with atmosphere , one minute your a South Central OG doing drivebys, next minute your stealing a combine harvester.

VCS is second as the music was amazing , LCS captured the late nineties very well and III was a bit to grim.

As much as I love the sundrenched atmosphere of Vice City, my vote goes to San Andreas.

I loved how the desert was depicted, and how San Fierro's sun seemed different to Los Santos. While the cities aren't a million miles away from each other, it felt like they were in completely different states. Each area seemed like a different game. If it wasn't the weather that was doing it, the style of buildings and general design helped too.

I won't go on because I don't really know what else to say without going overboard. I just loved SA.

Yeah, Los Santos and San Fierro had very different atmosphere's, Los Santos semt hot and humid with a kind of gangland presence, whilst san fierro had a colder and more grittier atmosphere, also a little more Hippie, probably because The Truth was there aswell.

For me it's Vice.

From the neon Ocean Beach, the sandy beach, the style, the tropical storms, the sparkling blue waters.... That had the BEST atmosphere.

BOGT had the best STYLE i think, the clubs and all that.

But i went for vice. no question imo

Vice City, by far. One gets all melancholic. Brilliant.

GTA San Andreas. Las Venturas is f*cking great, even if Los Santos is unattractive.

GTA III for sure. The gloominess and darkness of Liberty is great, and I love the bad weather, with all the rain, fog and cloudiness. I love the gritty urban feel to it, and I think it's the best atmosphere in the GTA series because it is the perfect atmosphere for a game with so much crime and death. I also live in England and the weather can be quite similar to GTA III, so I feel right at home with GTA III weather, and finally I don't know why but i just love dark and gloomy weather in real life, the same goes for GTA games! And Claude made the atmosphere even better. He was a heartless, silent killer. He looks like a badass too. He doesn't care about taking people's lives, he's just in it for the money, and revenge on catalina. If, for example Tommy was in GTA III instead of Claude, I'd hate it. Claude is partly why GTA III is my favorite GTA game ever.

Vice City every time. Spot on 80s Miami vibe. It may not have been the technical masterpiece SA was, but it had atmosphere in spades. The clothes, the cars, the music (man the music!), the weather. Just perfect.

For me SA was an amazing game, but was somehow missing some of the west-coast feel I was expecting. Maybe being british I have a slightly skewed inaccurate image of California, but I was expecting a little more, well, beach culture, and a little more Hollywood glamour. Los Santos seemed spot on, but Las Venturas, cos of the limitations of the engine, seemed a little empty. Lots of Casinos, bright lights and wide boulevards, but not enough people to fill them.

u gotta remember SA were on the old consoles... im pretty confident that if they visit either VC or SA agen, the beaches will be much more busy, night life will be included like BOGT and etc, atleast thats what im hoping for.

where is GTAA? The feeling that you are trapped in a 2D world with 3D buildings and can only see a few meters in front of you was great.

Stuck between SA and IV so I went for IV because the whole environment is so life like and really has that big city feel to it.
