- A Work in progess

Intro

"Before we start, this isn't a concept thread, it's a thread dedicated to understanding criminal elements in GTA games, and also to see what gangs people want to see in the future or make s return, and so on..." Enjoy.

Over the years in the Grand Theft auto era, we have played as a Ghetto gangster, a Mafia figure, an eastern european and have seen many more aspects of the criminal culture as we have played throughout the series. Alot of it i suspect we have enjoyed, and what people really like in my opinion is that all of this is based upon somthing, real groups of people which gives that eery feel that all these things do exist in the real world. I Personally have loved the Gangs and criminal organizations in the GTA series, most preferably for me is the Mafia, but for others it was the Street Gangs, the cartels or the Russian's that were seen in GTA IV.

Either way i have made this topic to shine a light upon these criminal organizations, to give you imfo about them, and also to discuss with you what criminal elements do we want to see in the Future as these things in Grand theft auto are some of the most important, so which criminal element do you relate the most to? Want to see them again?

I have also taken time to create this table for you to fill in what Gang or Gangs you would like to see in future and their role...

To see your tables look at the 3rd Post! smile.gif

Over the years, since the first GTA we have seen the mafia, however it was in GTA III where the mafia probably stunned us the most especially seeing them in 3D texture. However we also saw the mafia in Vice City and San Andreas. In the III era there were three main families of Liberty city based on New york (Which was smoothened out in IV). There were the Leone's, Forelli's and the Sindaco's. In LCS we also saw the Sicilian mafia trying to take over.

We then saw them again in GTA IV, where they resembled the real Five families of New York and how they operated in this current day and age. These families were the Gambetti's (Gambino's), Pavano's (Genovese's), Messina's (Bonnano's), Lupisella's (Lucchese's) and the Ancelotti's (Colombo's) however it is debatable who they are all based on as different people have different opinions. Also featured was the Pegorino's who are based on the Decavalcante family out of NJ and feature the role in the famouse TV HBO The Soprano's.

It also depends alot on the location if we would ever see them again, other locations that we might see them would include Florida (Vice City) or maybe another part of America such as New England or maybe even Chicago and Detroit. I personally would love to see these guys come into a role in the next GTA game. Character models for these guys have been excelent and even at times have been cliche, they have amounted to some great voice acting and models, such as Sal leone and Ray Boccino and people like that. IV models of mobsters have improved ever so much since III aswell, take a look at the comparisons...

Russian Mob and Eurasian groups

user posted image

One of the coolest and i would say appreciated groups of all time in the GTA series. There first major appearence was in Grand theft auto IV where the protagonsit Niko bellic started working for them through Vlad Glebov as he then was passed up the ranks where he met senior Russian mafia members like Dimitri rascalov, Mikhail Faustin and even an enemy of his past Ray Bulgarin. However just to be clear Niko himself wasn't russian but was Serbian and not the same thing. However this isn't the first time the Russian Mafiya or Bratva as they call it have popped up. The first time was in San Andreas in the mission "Just Business" where CJ and smoke flee from them in violent drive-by's and shootouts. Apart from that they are bassically new to the whole game.

In America today, Russian and other post soviet union organized crime groups have entered the country and their packaging comes along with them. Their groups however tend to be less structured than other groups and smaller, making them more flexible and less detectable to law enforcement however it dis-allows them to grow as much and they lack true leadership.

In Grand theft auto IV, The main two families are the Faustin's and the Petrovic's. Mikhail gets killed when he kills the son of Kenny Petrovic, lenny which causes a war, therefore has to be killed. Petrovic is considered the most powerfull Russian mob boss in LC and if not America. After the death of Faustin, dimitri takes over along with Bulgarin, but once Dimitri is killed everything is handed over to Bulgarin and his accomplice Timur. However both are also killed at the end of TBOGT anyway.

Often in the U.S. the eastern european syndacdites are always refered to as "Russian" but that isn't neccesarilly true alot of the time they are infact Armenian, Georgian or Ukrainian or somwhat along those lines. Either way in the 90's was when these Eurasian groups were most noticable at the collapse of the soviet union, and although they are not as noticable now they still exist and are cunning criminals through-out America. In Grand Theft auto IV, they had a riegn of control over Brighton beach (Hove beach) and were seen in almost every corner. In comparison to their SA model they are extremly well created...

Albanian Mafia and Chinese triads

user posted image

First lets start off with the Albanians. The Albanian mafia has only just been introduced in Grand Theft auto IV. Roman bellic appears to have borrowed money from Albanian loan sharks. this gang was called the "Petrela Gang" and was quite a small gang and really did under-estimate the way the Albanian mafia work. Yes the Albanian mafia are loan sharks but also so much more, they control alot of the Sex trafficking operations in europe and America, they also control part of the worlds drug trade in Marijuana and also heroin from afghanistan. They are also infamouse for their many car theft rings in which they are stolen and shipped back into eastern europe. (In Bomb Da Base) multiplayer online game, you are assigned by Petrovic to muscle out his competators in car theft rings who are the Albanians, as you go to the platypus and take them out.

Although not as well heard of or as powerfull in America as their Italian and Russian counterpart, they are a brutal and violent force within the country and very, very dangerouse people with strong motives. They are a group that we saw in IV but not in enough detail and it would be a great idea for rockstar to create them again and full-fill their stories a little more. In IV they hardley ever appeared on the street, but their modeling was pretty good as you can see...

Chinese Triads

They first appeared in the top-down GTA's. However their main appearence which was enjoyed was in GTA III. They featured a main part in the rivalry between them and the Leone crime family. Triads in III were aufully stereotyped however which all changes in IV, where you see a diverse clothing system for triads instead of just a Martial arts suit. The SF Triads have also featured in San Andreas and they featured a main part in their Casino involving CJ in Las Venturas. Again their main rivals in LV was also the Leone's. Mafia families and Triad's havn't had a smooth and collaborating history lets say in America.

They however appeared in Grand Theft auto IV again though, and although their role in IV was very minor it increased slightly in TBOGT when you are in dept to Roco and are buying in some Triad owned property which goes terribly wrong. In IV the main triad organizations were the Algonquin triads also known as the Jaoming crime group which featured mainly in CTW a triad based GTA game.

Personally i was dissapointed with the roles of the triad's in IV and wanted to see more of them however, they arn't as dominant as other crime groups in the U.S. as they tend to stick within their own communities, therefore pick and collaborate with their own cultures instead of looking for business oppertunities with other groups, which limits their power and size. However they can be found in many U.S. communities mainly in the North-east of the U.S. but also with a strong presence in LA and San francisco and california area.

Street gangs & Drug cartels

Gangs

user posted image

Street gangs have been the bread and butter of most of crimes commited in the world, and in GTA have played one of the biggest roles ever. For example street gangs were seen in pretty much all GTA games, even if they were not directly involved with the story you would always see them on the street corner or hanging out in the hood. The biggest success in taking the role of a ghetto gangster was the one introduced in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, where you played as CJ johnson. In America today street gangs are also becoming clever bit by bit, however there are still lots of "Old School" gangs still around who just sell dope and live in the ghetto. Grove street Familes (GSF)was one of them.

In Grand Theft auto IV they were featured in at Playboy's gang, in which he was in the North Holland Hustlers along with other members anf former members such as Dwayne Forge. In Grand Theft auto IV there were also lots of hispanic gangs such as the Spanish Lords

In America today every city most probably has it's own street gangs, weather they be Black, latino or white. The locations in the US today that have a very big street gang influence are places like New York or (Liberty city) and Los Angeles. LA are home to the famouse Bloods and Crips that we saw based in San andreas, however in this modern day and age alot of the territories in LA are now being taken over by Hispanic Gangsters, as for every Black person in the LA region there are 3 Latino's. Major gangs also include 18th street gang and variouse others like MS-13 one of the most brutal gangs ever encountering the world from El Salvador. However when people picture a street gang most either see a Black or Mexican, but there are also alot of White and Asian street gangs aswell that GTA hasn't yet covered!

Like the Nazi lowriders of Public Enemies, however these white gangs seem to be white supremisist unfortunatly they do colaborate with other ethnic gangs and do pretty much the same as other street gangs, drug dealing, robbery and murder. Asian boyz is another classic example of an ethnic gangs, made up of loose asian heritage, however not chinese as such but things like Philipino or Cambodian, ethnicities like that.

Either way in All GTA's a wish to see street gangs, because to have one without any would be like watching TV withn your eyes shut, it's just not possible. Besides most organizations were street gangs once, even the Mafia.

Drug Cartels

We first started seeing the cartel's in GTA III. The main cartel in III was the Colombian cartel, no other specific name towards the cartel was shown. The Colombian cartel in grand theft auto 3 played a major part in the story, as claude speed's girlfriend was infact Catalina the reputed boss of the cartel at the time. However that isn't the only time we have seen drug cartels featured in grand theft auto. In Vice city cartels were also seen through Riccardo Diaz, who was thought to be either of Colombian or cuban, either way he was from no dought Latin America. However from there onwards the traditional cartels were lost until IV came along and introduced the Torres cartel which was run by a Puerto Rican.

However times have changed, and alot of the drugs these days imported into America actually go through Mexico, which has seen a large increase in it's cartel's in recent years. Mexican cartels are now very prodominant and have not been seen once in a GTA game, and with their violence and power over the drugs trade i think they without a dought deserve a mention. Also the Mexican cartels these days in Mexico and in south-west America have control over alot if not most of the Hispanic gangs which obey them and drug deal for them.

These kinds of criminal groups are also perfect for a GTA game as the shootouts that occur within them are some of those which are seen in an actual GTA game, where more than 20 people all get shot and killed through violent AK-47 and rocket launcher shootouts! Perfect for a GTA game...

Biker Gangs

Outlaws and Motorcycle clubs

user posted image

Have we seen MC gangs before Grand Theft Auto IV? yes we have on variouse occasions, the first occasion or certainly the most remembered occasion was in Grand Theft Auto Vice city, where you meet Big Mitch the leader of the group. In vice city the gang is called Vice city bikers (Click) who are a bunch of outlaws and are annoyed from what their country has done to them which takes on the more sort of Fun, rebelish kind of activity instead of being actual hardcore criminals like in IV. In Grand Theft auto IV we saw mainly Johnny's biker gang called The Lost MC (click) and also it's main rivals the AOD (Angels of death) MC. They are also features partly in LCS if anybody can remember them, even i find it hard to remember them! They were the Liberty Bikers

Would i personally like to see more biker gangs? personally they are not my thing and over-rated, however they do exist among american society so if rockstar sets a location where the Biker gangs are pretty present or are in business, then rockstar i dought would leave them out.

The Motorcycle gangs started out as rebels or somthing like a club where the guys and members in it would have fun, but their rebelish attitude towards the rest of society labeling them as "Outlaws" bassically demanded they get into the life of crime. Now most biker gangs are infact involved with some major criminal activity, there are very few who join up and cruise around for the pure fun of it anymore. Also the Biker gangs are the first criminal gang to actually be influenced among American's to the rest of the world, African Americans and Hispanics gave us the street gangs, Asians gave us criminals like the triads, and Italy gave the world the Mafia, well this is America's criminal "present" to the world.

Gangs requested by Users

Name : Sanjeem Gang : Albanian Mafia Role : I would like to see them play a much bigger role than in IV, and see their brutality and violent acts within the game to reflect off their real life acts
Name : Brownbear Gang : Bikers and Cartels Role : Would like to see them come into the limelight a little more
Name : Kwandilibro Gang : Cartels and street Gangs Role :More Cartel Action, and street gangs to be more active when on the streets, have them come up to you and shoot you e.t.c. Instead of just standing around
Name : 02fishera Gang : Yakuza Role : It depends on the setting, the only places that the Yakuza could really play a starring role are San Andreas and Hawaii. I'd like to see them used in a smuggling plot (obviously that would only be part of the main story) Perhaps something like where they're trying to smuggle meth into the States and firearms out to Japan.

Is this supposed to be a concept thread ? biggrin.gif

Nope, ill make it more clear at the beggining that this is a thread trying to understand the criminal elements of GTA games. What groups people would like to see, make a return and so on...

Ok dude, sorry I misunderstood. smile.gif

Good job on this, anyway. icon14.gif

Great topic. There is always room for more information so you can keep the topic updated. For example, you can add the role of the black gangs of the IV era. Also add biker gangs (don't forget VC).

Cheers, oh yes and i will add biker gangs, any gang worth mentioning within America that people might want to see i will put up tonight.

So this topic is explaining what gangs are in GTA? No offense, but I think all of us already knew that.

Look at the text, it gives you a massive insight on how the gangs operate and where they operate, what parts of the country and also the diversity of the criminal underworld. some have not yet been seen in GTA like the Mexican cartels. It's bassically a huge Gang imfo topic, bet you didn't know all the things i wrote on that page.

it's bassically, or hopefully will become a sort of Gang database, discusing anything related to gangs that want to be seen in future GTA's. This is general GTA chat afterall not everything has to be concepts.

ObsydianRaven

If the next GTA takes place in Carcer City I want to see the Innocentz gang from Manhunt make an appearance.

user posted imageuser posted image

I know a lot of you are thinking, but if R* did include them in a future GTA they could take away the face paint and skull masks and give them more black but at the same time keep their dark and creepy personalities that they had in Manhunt, then would have yourselves a dark, mysterious and overall "creepy" gang. I know that a lot of you would think it would be a bit ridiculous, but I on the other hand think they would fit in perfect with a dark and gritty location such as Carcer City. As for what businesses they would be involved in, from what was hinted in Manhunt they could have heavy involvement in selling drugs, most likely hallucinogenics such as Acid, Ecstasy, PSP, etc.

Edited by sethpenguin

I'm not too arsed about who they are or where they're from, just about what they do.

I think the step the series needs to move in is having each gang represent a specific part of the industry, and in this way they will be interactive with the protagonist. If there were merely four gangs, Gang A involved in Human Trafficking/Prostitution, Gang B in Drugs, C in Weapons and D in Thieving, all available to consort with at some point, I would be happy. Even with a smaller amount of gangs, it's possible a player would have a greater connection with the lesser number and be immersed all the more when it comes to dealing with them or playing them off one another.

Great idea for a topic Sanjeem icon14.gif Means we can all stop discussing gangs in our respective threads now!

All I didn't know was which IV family was based on which real life family.

You knew that the Russian organized crime syndacites are infact almost nothing like as portrayed in GTA IV? that they tend not to have a leader and form small groups and come together when plotting somthing big? that they are flexible but vunerable when wanting to expand?

Took me some time to gather imfo like that over the past year.

@Tyla : Cheers tyla i appreciate it.

@Angel Avenue : i will ad them later, thanks for reminding me.

@Tommy Champs : great idea mate, i shall start rounding up the codes for all that to go down, although i will need help with all the neat, table things as i find those hard to do, actually the only way i managed to do it at the top was copying and pasting other work and replacing the imfo inside the tables blush.gif

@Seth : Won't it be wierd seeing gangsters in ghost masks and sh*t like that, would it fit??

@Seth : Won't it be wierd seeing gangsters in ghost masks and sh*t like that, would it fit??

Like I said, Rockstar could remove the masks and face paint and they would fit in very well though they'd probably the gothic Latino hoodlum theme.

For the good of my breakfast, are there any better pictures of mobsters for the OP?

The guy is hardly rear of the year, is he?

I thought it showed off the modern mobster stereotype pretty good, very fat, smartly dressed, that kind of picture. I mean loads of mobsters you see on TV and films are fat, but that one he's the worst. tounge.gif

I am planning on doing more work soon i'll include the north holland hustlers...

I don't apprecieate that big sweaty ass you have sitting at the begininng of the post.

However, I'd like to see some more cartel action in GTA. And I'd also like to see gangs that actually do something as opposed to walking around all day.

OK Sanjeem can't wait to see the table and I will add my thoughts soon smile.gificon14.gif

Cool cheers.

Kwandailibro : Bro, who cares about the big sweaty ass really? i mean common it's just a picture of a greedy, fat ass mobster getting arrested, i thought it was kind of funny. I too would also like to see more cartel action in the next GTA aswell.

Now all people have to do is fill in that little coded table i did in the begining, then i can make a table.

Update : I have now made the Coded tables for you all to complete it should only take a few minutes maximum, and i will add it, this is just a little fun factor of this topic and they will be places on the 3rd post of the topic where i have already made the title and my own gang table, also i have added the Bikers for all you fans, and completed imfo on the GTA IV street gangs.

The Gang table thing can be any gang you want, any!

I'd like to see cartels and bikers come into the limelight a bit more.

I'll do it for you but in future could everyone just use the table's i made? Cheers guys. So You wanna see the Bikers and Cartels...

Name : Brownbear Gang : Bikers and Cartels Role : Would like to see them come into the limelight a little more

Thanks for the offer Tommy, i'm doing alright right now since i got pretty much everything so far sorted however the only thing that you could do to contribute to this topic is make a gang thing like the above colgate.gif
