nkjellman
You know how when you first start GTA IV or EFLC you get nice smooth performance and no pop ins. After about 5 minuts you start to see small pop ins and a little bit of lagging but not that bad. Then about 5 minuts later the lagging gets worse and the pop ins get nasty to where the road shows the LOD, and the bildings show the LOD untill you have been looking at it for 5 sec. When you turn the camra you see the wholl city in the backround rendering bilding by bilding. (Where is Rotterdam tower. Oh there it is, or That area looks emty. Ohh the game was not rendering half the city). Sometimes about 10 minuts later the game will hang for about a sec or 2 and after that everything dissapears and your walking in the air AKA Invisable Liberty City. This crap gets annoying and its even worse when you have script mods and even worse when you add car mods. Im posting this to give people an idea because I know whats wrong with the game. The reason is the game is using memory and not recycling it. The game uses more memory and more memory and it does not clean the memory it does not need anymore. For example if you start TBOGT and you walk outside the safe house, get in a car and drive over to the airport it seems to still have the data from before still in memory and that slows it down. Thats why the game runs nice and perfictly at the start and then runs like sh*t after a little bit. I knoticed that Clean Mem shows how much memory im using and the longer I play the higher the bar goes. If the game did not keep using and using memory and not cleaning the old memory it runs poorly after a while because it has less memory to work with to update the screen and render textures. Thats how the XBOX 360 and PS3 versions of the game run smooth and stay that way. So if someone could figure out a way for this game to clean out its old memory we may get to keep smooth preformance the wholl time. mkey82
lol no, console versions do not run smooth, not to any extent applicable to human logic. In your case, memrestrict could help and the other possible problem could be overheating, especially if you're using a laptop. nkjellman
After playing the PC version when I play on the XBOX 360 version it feals very smooth. But Im on a desktop. I do have mem restrict on and this game runs the way it was designed to run by accedent. Like sh*t. Rockstar does not patch things when they need to. The freezing by modders on the XBOX 360 version and PS3 version, the endless list of bugs on the PC version. Last patch they did not fix the most obveus bugs but they fixed little ones we did not even know existed. (The lag by water and Sexytime lag is an exeption). But is there anyway to fix this. All the mods that say fix it dont work and usaly end up making the game look horrable. mkey82
I have seen the game on the PS3 and it's anything but smooth. If the xbox version is anything alike, I can't see it being any different. It's possible this difference you experience coincides with the fact usually when you play on consoles, you sit on a 3-4 times greater distance from the screen and combined with blur-o-vision this can provide for entertaining effects. But yes, the game runs like sh*t, for the most part. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469660-recycle-memory/#findComment-1060338230 Share on other sites

Also why the PC version was released later. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469660-recycle-memory/#findComment-1060338234 Share on other sites
Jimbatron
Actually the game runs very smoothly on mine, but I am under-utilising my system's resources. This said, I still get pop-in, but it is mostly objects in the distance when travelling very fast down a long street or flying a helicopter. I'm conviced patches 6 and 7 capped the maximum draw distance to get a smoother performance, as this didn't happen with patches 4 and 5 at all. I don't get whole buidling dissappearing though - it's mostly trees and small objects. Have you tried simply lowering your settings to see if that cures the pop-in you describe?
