Should the Cell Phone return?

I'm just wondering if anybody thinks the cell phone should return. I think there was a thread awhile back on how people hated it.

Me personally, I liked it. For the PS2 games I could memorize the main cheats, health, weapons, etc. But it was nice that you could enter cheats on the phone and have them stored and all. It eliminated the whole writing down of cheats. My uncle and I used to do this for SA. He had like 5 sheets of paper with all the codes for SA on it, it was funny.

The cell phone was alot easier for other things, such as calling friends (regardless of how annoying friends may be for some members) and setting up dates instead of waiting for people to call you so you could advance in the story, going into multiplayer. It made things much easier.

Thoughts?

Hell yes it should return, absolutely brilliant feature. I doubt there's anyone that hated the phone itself, more like cry babies overexxaggerating that your cousin calls you all the time

So absolutely yes, I'd be disappointed if it doesn't return.

I doubt they won't remove the cell phone feature from GTA IV and integrate it into GTA V. They should make the numbers shorter though..

What are you, lazy? And yes, the cell phone feature is great.

They need more numbers though..

Why remove it? The cell phone was pretty convienient, IMO. It made cheats a lot easier. But there need to be waaaaay more cheats, meaning more numbers.

Anyway, why would R* develop the cell phone just to get rid of it after 1 game?

Needs better interaction too.

Though this is more a problem with the game itself, it's stupid to call a Firetruck to a Fire, and have them ignore it and leave.

I am certain everyone thinks it will make a return, however i could care less if it didn't even if it was useful, it just means gameplay wouldn't revolve around the phone.

Depending on if it is set in modern day or not.

It is not the phones fault if friends are often calling, they can just tone that down a bit.

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be implemented so why not?

A portable communication device has been featured in the franchise since GTA III, so why would they remove it now? in GTA IV, it has become a useful tool to make decisions and a step to a more realistic world where you have choices to make in the story and outside the story.

The Lolwut Pear

I loved it, they should add more variants and more customization, though.

In-game internet accessible by phone would be boss.

I wouldn't mind dialing a number 40 numbers long in GTA IV... but with that many numbers, people forget easily.

Also why not have an I-pod, MP3 player in the game? where you can buy the music from that is played on the Radio Station like in Saints row?

Well, both yes and no. If the next gta is set in the 60's, then a cell phone would be a pain in the ass to drag around.

If it is set in "today" then yes, it should return. smart phone even?

No disrespect, but I think this a silly question lol. Why would cell phones not be included in the next GTA game ? I can't see the next GTA being set in a period so old that there were no cell phones then. I just can't see it.

So, of course there should be cell phones. You should not even need to ask that question.

IMO it's a good question to ask. R* could be planning on removing alot of the awesome features for GTAV. I bet this one will be set in Miami (Since VC is in Miami). Having V be in Italy would be cool. They best make this new game more realistic though.... ph34r.gif

...Like some of you have already mentioned...It depends on what time frame that V will be set in. Personally, Id rather R* keep everything in modern day.

With that, of course the cell phone is a must. There's nothing wrong with having an older time period, as long as it is done correctly, but modern day technology makes everything more convient and generally more enjoyable.

...So yes...keep the cell phone, and yes keep it modernized.... cool.gif

Of course it should return, if the next GTA is modern that is, the cell phone is part of the modern word, and GTA IV was set in modern times, so unless its going back to 1980s Vice City and we have to enter cheats on this

I really liked the cell phone in IV. In spite of it mainly being a menu-based gimmick, it almost merged gameplay and menu seamlessly and with a current era and a smart phone in the next GTA it could go even further and become more functional. Imagine plotting your route on the legend while continuing to walk down the sidewalk or in the backseat of a taxi without having to break gameplay.

I like the phone. I just hope for the next one when you try to enter a cheat code and get shot, the phone doesn't get put away before you're finished.

I agree man. That was annoying as f*ck in IV. I wanted to call a friend for backup and an asshole shoot's you.

It does get annoying after a few attempts. But if you make sure your in full cover when using the Cell Phone you won't get your phone taken down when people shoot you.

I think it's reasonable that you "drop" the phone when shot by a bullet. As annoying as it was, it encouraged me to get the hell out of the way and seek cover before trying to operate a cell phone in a gun fight.

It wouldn't let me cover when i used the cellphone in IV, it was quite annoying, might ahve been because my R1 button was a little stiff and unresponsive.

Also being able to jog while on the phone would be great rather than having to walk.

get rid of ending calls when being shot at, or getting hit by a car. Instead the protag should drop the phone, and the call will sound quieter and more treble-y.

Also have an MP3 player built into the phone would be nice - let it read from the console's hard drive.

Aside from that i'd like to be able to SAVE PHOTOS that i take on the phone, and send text messages. I remember previews of IV a magazine that had just played it said you could place calls and set up meetings and ambushes etc - i want that! tounge.gif

yes, why in God's name would they remove it, since it came usefull and very sort of neat in IV.

I agree. There is simply no reason. I'm sure everyone will start getting angry if R* removed good features...

Maybe the cell phone system like in GTA IV with the texting and calling is alright.. but forget the internet communication.
