dracodrakesa
I know there are hundreds of these but i don't see answers, all i see is "I know! i have the same problem, here are my seetings," and frankly, no one gives a damn what your settings are when someone asks help to fix lag! Anyways, here are my specs: Computer name: Gateway FX6840-17C Gaming PC Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Hard Drive: 1.5TB Hard Drive Memory: 12GB DDR3 Memory Processor: Intel Core i7 Processor 870 (if you need more information on specs please post) I can run many other games on my computer just fine on maxed settings and some of those games are: Call Of Duty: Black Ops Portal Assassins Creed II Dead Rising 2 Left 4 Dead (1 and 2) Medal Of Honor Fallout 3 I have no clue what could be causing this lag, when i raise the settings above the recommended (which are about medium) it becomes even slower, i don't want to sacrifice graphics for speed if i don't have to so if you have any ideas please comment! P.S if you need any more information, post and i will add it ASAP. luceberg
What do you mean by lag? You mean it slows down to unplayable? What are your minimum/average/maximum fps? The specs are decent, so should play quite well. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469465-help-with-lag/#findComment-1060335313 Share on other sites

Ultraking
A 5770 won't be enough to play this maxed. Medium settings should get the game playable for you. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469465-help-with-lag/#findComment-1060335328 Share on other sites

It also might be your CPU, this thing eats more cpu cycles than crysis. I have a very much similar system to yours, and I had to resort to medium setting to get things running smooth. myloch
@Dracodrakesa I have core i7 860, 6gb ram and ati hd5770 1gb ddr5. Had the same insane lag, stuttering, slowdowns every 2-3 seconds. After hours of investigations in the forums, youtube and so on, I found the solutions that worked for me. My game experience is now fluid Medium shadows setting remove the stuttering and they are equal/better than higher quality pre-1.0.6.0 version shadows (with 1.0.6.0 patch they changed engine's shadows, correct me if I'm wrong). For silky smooth gameplay on high spec computers: select higher than normal process priority for the game (not sure if this is really necessary), core affinity to 0-2-4-6 (only for i7 cpus, you can gain up to 10 fps doing this), shadow and night shadow to medium, visual distance to 40, detail distance: 70, cars density to 50, vsync ON and do not use record gameplay functionality. (All other settings to maximum) Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469465-help-with-lag/#findComment-1060335484 Share on other sites

myloch
@Dracodrakesa Yep. After latest 2 patches, high and very high shadows seem to make the game lag with 90+% of high spec computers. I forgot to say that I use a humble 1280x1024 resolution (my monitor is not very big and this is the max supported res). Probably using bigger resolutions may give some problems. If you have noticeable decrease in performance after 20-30 minutes, I suggest you to create a commandline.txt file and put it in the game directory, open it with wordpad and add this -memrestrict 629145600. Sometimes you may notice some minor stutter when turning a corner with your car or moving the mouse but this is not a big problem. Note: I use latest 11.1a radeon drivers. luceberg
Another cause of lag like that can be intel speedstep. The cpu throttles back if there is not much going on, then does not speed up again fast enough. Most gaming overclockers disable this in the bios.
