This just shows the stupidity of some people, you can tell it runs in he family, the kid is stupid enough to spend $1700 of his mums money on xbl and the mum is stupid enough to blame m$ for it. She obviously doesn't know M$ they want as much money as they can get.

Ha Ha, what a d**k! Just for the record, No, Microsoft shouldn't refund the money! He knew what he was doing. The mother made the parent account, the only way he could have bought all that stuff is if she let him by changing the settings in her account,

These companies should take some responsibility. They take advantage of vulnerable people."
What the f**k is she talking about? Isn't the setting in the adult account enough? SHE must have been the one that changed the setting to allow her son to buy loads of things so she should be the one to bear the consequences of her actions. It's like the old football through the window story, the parents let the children play footie in the back garden, don't complain when the ball is suddenly in your house, you let them play there.

This is a problem with Microsoft, I was speaking to my friends mum who has fallen out with her son, He had permmision to use the card to pay for Xboxlive. Xbox stores this number for thurther use the first time my xbox renewed using my mums card they didnt even ask if it was still ok first i knew they had sent an email saying its been automatically done.

Its the system they use that makes it hard.

They should use a continuous direct debit setup with the bank for a yearly service just like loans companys do but MS charge subscription as a seperate purchase so this doesnt even allow parents to cancel the direct debits directly from there bank to ensure that MS cannot take anymore money they are not entitled to. The parents cant even get the card removed from the xbox unless they know there password, and MS tech support wont even give them the time of day because there not the owner of the account.

The mum cant force the kid to give over there passwords they can make life hard but thats pretty much it.

Microsoft is making it very easy for young people to defraud there parents and the system does need seriously looking at, then this news story pops up and pretty much confirms what ive been hearing! and know from experience!

But yes the mum should of kept an eye on the bills you get a balance sheet every 3 months she should have seen something was wrong over the 7 months.

but like it says whenever you download anything from xbox NO REFUNDS

A. Hard time? I'd take the Xbox and lock it in a bomb proof safe until he gave up his password!

B. And no refunds it should be, and you know what I'd do? Id sell the Xbox and all his games to help pay off his debt, and instead of sitting on his fat lazy a** all day buying stuff on the Xbox I'd make him do house work to pay off the interest on his debt.

my point still stands if he still didnt give you his password you would get charged automatically wether he had the xbox or not until you canceled your entire card! Like i said the system need seriously looking at!

when buy the 12 month gold pack near the end microsoft will send you a reminder that its going to run out strait to your dashboard, To make sure you will run along to the shop and purchase another 12 months theres no reason why they shouldnt do the same even if you have a card registered with them.

Meh, feel a bit for the mother at this stage, as by the sounds of it shes a single parent working 2 jobs to feed her what looks to be incredibly stupid and ugly child. Cant see them getting any money back though as it would set a bad precedent. sh*t happens i guess.

Mind you my dear old mother copped a $700 bill for checking her email on her iphone while out of the country (shes a flight attendant). I rang up and got ahold of a manager who after about 15 minutes of spirited talking dropped the charges.

Best option to do is Sell his xbox, with the account. All his games, his TV, any other game system he has, any peripheral for the Xbox and anything else related to gaming and sell it all together on craigslist or something. Depending on his TV it could be a 2,500+ value for the price of 1,800$. Good deal if you ask me.

Also I can tell that kids face is probably gonna become a forced meme like Scumbag Steve.

Well now a days i believe on the side when entering the credit card number it says that it will renew when Live runs out...

People tend not to read any ways...

and it takes maybe 5 minuets tops to set up parenting controls for f*cks sake... plus if they went out and got a card none of this sh*t would happen and they wouldnt be out the money...

And things like that is the reason i use Prepaid cards

Why do i have the creepy feeling that the Pre Paid cards will get stopped and will no longer get sold.

You spend money to buy points. You spend points to buy digital content, be it games, DLC packs, subscriptions, movies, or whatever else they offer on Live marketplace these days.

Meh, feel a bit for the mother at this stage, as by the sounds of it shes a single parent working 2 jobs to feed her what looks to be incredibly stupid and ugly child.

Did you really have to throw that in, old chap?

All I know is that if this was my mother... well, she'd basically have the same reaction. At least after beating my ass for a half hour. Gotta feel bad for the kid's mom, though. But seriously, how the f*ck did he not know he was spending sh*tloads of money?

Once you purchase something on Xbox Live from using a credit card, the details are stored automatically to that account, and as far as I'm concerned there's no way to unlink your credit card from the Live account, unless you call Microsoft.

You have to feel sorry for the mother. Being able to spend that sort of cash over a gaming console would suprise most mothers and parents.

My bro gave me his card to buy some Live for my Xbox. As soon as he told me that they store your credit card details in the Xbox I knew that was it was a scam and I bet there's thousands of cases of this. I also know for a fact there is as my bro works for Xbox tech spupport.

So, you can't really blame the parents for not being up to date tech wise, some of your kids grew up with buying things on your consoles and to others it's still an alien concept. Do you think MS are gonn put a warning for something like this. Don't be so naiive yourself if you think it's her fault.

On the other hand she should be punishing her son but I think he is being punished somewhat by having this story published and his face over the interwebz. She's probably sticking up for her son to show some solidarity against the giant Microsoft.

What a complete loser! Even at his age you know when your spending over a £1000 of your mum/dads money, as everything on the store has a price, a price he clearly saw!

His mum has about as much chance of getting that money back off Microsoft as i do of f*cking Megan fox.
