njo
Hi, currently running at 800*600 res I get an avg of 30 FPS but the quality is just terrible, many "jaggies". I attempeted to force on antialiasing in the NVidia control panel but seemingly has no effect. With the next highest resoultion in the settings (1024*768) looks great, yet my FPS is cut in half. How could I improve my FPS? (I tried the ultimate graphics fix commandline tweak, and I have VisualIV which improved visual quality with little to no FPS loss) Thanks in advance Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/ Share on other sites

lpgunit
Well, besides reinstalling it and downgrading to 1.0.4.0, another option would be upgrading your GPU, which depends on your budget. A GTS 250 would be the minimum if you're going for an Nvidia card. Exxon
A GTS 250 would be the minimum if you're going for an Nvidia card. I have a GT 220 1GB and that runs everything on max, only textures middle and I have about 25-30 fps I think. So the GT 220 is also good, but I should go for a GTX 580 or something Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060327435 Share on other sites
njo
Well all I have is a 300W power supply, so my options are limited, and the GT220 supports the 300W power supply, would it be a big difference if I got this card? or something better? A 300 Watt PSU won't cut it for the stronger cards now. Get a 500 Watt PSU at least. A Corsair TX 650 and a VX 550 both cost $89.99, and if you really want to save money, get a Corsair CX 500 W for $60, but the unfortunate thing is that it isn't 80 PLUS Certified Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060327881 Share on other sites
njo
I dont think I need to go that far, I can now get a card with twice the amount of memory and double the core clock speeds, with the 300W power supply Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060327988 Share on other sites
mkey82
VRAM alone means nothing. And no, 300W is not enough. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060328006 Share on other sites

mkey82
What does this "why" relate to? http://educations.newegg.com/tool/psucalc/index.html here is a PSU power calculator, build yourself a decent system and see how much power you actually need. mkey82
I would avoid bestbuy and the 430, anything below 450 is not a good purchase. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060328203 Share on other sites

YankeesPwnMets
I'd recommened at Radeon 5770 or GTX 460 at least Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060328338 Share on other sites
mkey82
Well, a 460 or a 6850, they cost a bit more, but you know where the money went. A good cheaper solution could be a 5770 as well. njo
Im looking for a card under or around the 100$ range, and a decent 500W power supply under 50$ Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060328363 Share on other sites
YankeesPwnMets
Good luck with that. Cheaping out on a power supply isn't what I would call smart, and the cheapest card that will run GTA IV above 30 FPS average is the Radeon 5770. The GTX 260 might run the game as well for $150 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060328746 Share on other sites

CHILLI
sweet pick njo. I have a 9800 GT 1gb aswell, but mine is some air cooled thing (not a fan). it runs perfect around medium/ (some settings on high). my lowest average would be 43FPS and my highest boosts up over 100FPS, inside the city that is. FPS counter: Xfire game overlay, it shows the average FPS within one second intervals Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/469079-resolution-fps-tweaks/#findComment-1060345424 Share on other sites
Spider-Vice
I have a GT 220 1GB and that runs everything on max Does it? I've got one and I can't run it on max without severe lag. SCFAdamVcG
Why are you all suggesting such expensive hardware? Personally first of all i'd try to see if I could increase the processor speed and unlock the extra core.. then overclock the graphics, if it's still no good get yourself a better gpu, yes they're right about a new psu, 300 watts isn't much but it depends on your budget, 400-550 is around standard nowadays as psu's go up to 1200w+ Tried any commandline tweaks njo?
