I'm about to get my first job

Chinatown Wars

I just got a job at Hot Topic and I need advice so I won't get fired. So far that I know is that I start tomorrow and I'm goin to get paid $9.75 an hour. I want to know what I should watch out for (the bad signs, if a "wierd" customer comes in, etc). Any help is appreciated.

Hot Topic eh? Wear a death metal band t-shirt, grow your hair long and dye it black or bleach it. And if you experience anything weird put it on the internet. Also, wear masquera. Well that's what I saw the one time I went there.

Oh and if you have an experience with a "weird" customer, put it on notalwaysright.com.

Lol not everyone who works at fag stores are fags. Atleast he got a job somewhere... anyways, I work at a skate clothing shop and my advice is to always look busy and let a new customer know that your their to help them. I don't know if your store works on commission though

If you want to catch shoplifters, only time and experience will help you recognize obvious signs that someone is up to no good. Being as how its Hot Topic, I doubt your going to receive any training on the matter. However there are several articles on the internet regarding retail asset protection, here is one a quick google search turned up, if your interested - link.

lol @ that link prophecy, "Admin@everythingwolf says... There is no way our shirt cured aids."

On topic - Always look busy, even if its just fixing clothes on rails, tidying up etc, in retail bosses love a person who can have things done without being asked to, the boss will recognise your minimising his workload and he/she will respect you for it.

Be polite with the customers and be honest aswell, if a shopper asks your opinion of some clothing if they don't suit it then tell them that, ofcourse do it in an unoffensive way like "im not sure that suits your style however i think you would look good in this [insert clothing here] because it brings out your [eyes, shoulders, butt] etc, plus complimenting females may get you girls numbers.

Hot Topic? Don't smile at customers, don't insult Twilight, wear white make-up.

Only kidding (not about the second one though), good to hear you have a job, good luck. icon14.gif

My first job required hardcore, ass kissing, retail training. It was a unique job and I loved it biggrin.gif

-Say 'Hello' to everyone who walks in the store. Not as a sales person hello. Just smile and say hello and let them go about their business.

-When approaching a customer never say 'May I help you?'. You never want to offer a yes or no answer. The correct approach is 'What can I do for you?'. That forces them into talking.

-The customer is always right...even when they are wrong.

-I have never seen a HotTopic, but I'm guessing a lot of mothers take their kids there? Even though the clothes might be for her son/daughter, she is the one paying. Do some nice lady'centric ass kissing. If they have a nice watch or other piece of jewelery add in a simple "love your watch" or something. Nothing over the top ya know. Just simple stuff.

Hey...and congratz on the job. I'm sure it'll be fun.
