Started finding my form again, and this really started kicking ass. Prone behind a knocked over vending machine, one shotting f*ckers with my M416. Just feels right.

Eventhough I'm playing this on lowest settings, ubercrappy and choppy... and the beta is buggy as f*ck, once this is polished this is going to be pretty much one of the best if not best FPS games out there. Everything feels so damn good. The recoil, the animations... everything feels just great.

At first I also hated the idea of Battlelog being in a browser and starting the game through there and there only but it's not that bad at all. Actually we should be glad to have this instead of being raped by something called IWNET.

 

The only thing that I don't like is the fact that I have to close the game entirely to switch servers and/or that you have to get completely ingame to even be able to change the settings and whatnot. Apart from that it's fast, works fluently and you don't have to wait that long. It's actually alot faster than launching a game, going to the browser to browse the servers and join it.

I managed to join the Beta yesterday evening on PlayStation 3.

 

Right from the start I was lumbered with two French clowns who just wouldn't stop bickering senselessly over their microphones, and as far as I could tell, there was no mute feature anywhere to be found -- not in the 'squad menu' and not even in the playerlist as far as I could tell. I tried leaving my squad to see if that would help, but it didn't. That aside, I f*cking loved the game. The class setup was pretty much the same as it was in BC2, except weapons were faction specific, which is how I prefer having them. The Rush gamemode was exactly the same - even the M-COM sirens (are they still called M-COMs?) sounded the f*cking same. The gameplay itself was very similar to BC2, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion. The whole game felt more like a refreshed BC2 to me, with a sh*tload of added extras and better maps.

 

I don't usually give two sh*ts about graphics, but Battlefield 3 is f*cking eye-candy, even on the PlayStation 3. I absolutely loved the Operation Metro map, and how the game starts from fighting in a city park, to fighting underground and then spilling out into the open streets of Paris. I absolutely f*cking loved it.

 

The only "bug" I really noticed was, during the early stages of the game where you fight in the city park, some players were running with their bodies half submerged in the dirt, but that was about it, there were no other issues I noticed.

Played the beta on the Playstation 3 for probably 5 hours last night, here are my impressions: Overall, this game is TONS of fun. It's easy to learn if you're familiar with FPS's even if you have never played a battlefield game before (me).

 

I'm going to go into detail regarding the map. Added spoiler tag just in case people would rather see for themselves.

 

At the moment you can only play one map without any vehicles. The map is split into four different looking sections: The first is the Paris area we've all seen. Once the two objectives are destroyed you gain access to the subway area which I think is my favorite part of the beta so far. There are a lot of tight tunnels that are ideal for sniping. Once the objectives are destroyed there, you move to the upper level of the subway which has a fairly open area in the middle. The final part of the map is when you exit that area and go outdoors again. This is where you can blow the sides off buildings and snipe from a second story.

 

This beta definitely has a fair amount of bugs in it, but it's by no means a game-breaking problem. I've experienced problems with being unable to sprint (which I fixed after switching weapons), being unable to aim down the sights (again fixed with switching weapons), I've had the camera dive below the map multiple times after being killed, sometimes the bullet trails hang in the air if they're illuminated by light (this has only happened in the subway for me), the rockets sometimes will hit corners and do zero damage to the environment, that's about all I've experienced so far.

 

Also you can't cook grenades, which I find odd. Someone mentioned before the lack of a mute function as well which is very true.

 

But even after all that I still find this game incredibly fun. I'm really looking forward to hearing everyone's impressions when it opens up to everyone.

@Pagelzilla, It seems a lot of your complaints have something to do with the fact that it is beta. Which is definitely a good thing, because I am sure they will add a mute function.

 

@Emsixteen, Too bad I don't know anybody that does.

btw, all you have to do is copy the demo file from someone who has it, and you can play without a code. It's what myself and my housemates have been doing.

While I have yet to play the console beta I see there is no LAV. What gives with that? I mean I've seen alot of youtube alpha videos and none have really given me the impression that the LAV is over powered on that first section, in fact it seems quite the opposite. And now people in the console beta have no real use for the engineer class. Would it not be better to leave the LAV in, give people still on the fence about the game a full range of options so they can better make a decision?
