For all you hardcore gaming geeks

Recommended Posts

Ok so this is for all you hardcore gamers, who know alot about games, i mean in the sense of knowing the missions, characters etc inside out,and also the industry.

I`ve always wanted to be a proper "hardcore" gaming geek, to know alot about games, and about the companies and what there`re up to etc, but i just can`t fathom where to or how to start.

So can any of you gamers help me out?

Any helpful advice welcome.

Thanks

I don't think being a "hardcore gaming geek" is something that you try really really hard to be, but you just either are, or in this case, aren't.

You either like it or your don't. Try heading to your local electronics shop and/or gaming store, and have a long talk with the retailers and/or cashiers there. That will truly decide if you are gamer material or not.

This is by no means an advertisement.

There is a little site out there called neogaf. It is kinda of where all the hardcore gamers you described hang out. They know everything, and there are even people from the industry there.

Pretty much just keep ahead of the curve of new games coming out. True hardcore gamers aren't great at just one game but great at multiple games over multiple platforms.

Just keep track of gaming news sites such as IGN.com, Kotaku.com, etc.

Preferrably a huge and well known retailer should do fine, they're the pro's.

Gamers don't call themselves 'hardcore gaming geeks'

or 'hardcore gamer'. I've been gaming since I was 8, and I've never called myself a 'hardcore gamer' of flaunted that sh*t. It's not something to display and showcase.

I mean, if you want to play video games, please do. But something about 'I WANNA BE GEEKY AS FU*K' coems off as hipster-ish.

Just PLEASE don't wear retarded ass 1-up shirts or belt buckles. That'll single you out as some sort of attention whore.

WITH THAT BEING SAID.

I'll second neogaf. It's a good site. You don't have a handbook for this sort of stuff. If video games interest you, just play them and keep up to date with this stuff. Same way you don't become a 'football guy', you just accumulate that overtime through spending time with the hobby. If the hobby interests you, then go for it.

imo,it's not so hard

first, check gaming's news everyday,as many people said, check ign,gamespot,etc... there are alot of them

second, have ur favorite game?learn the story,if u still can't get it ,check it wikia, explame you want to discover assassin's creed story, just check it by assassinscreedwikia.com.there are many website now,but some game doesn't have much information yet

third, you should start any game with HARD mode, can say it's hard, but u need to get used to it,many time u die, many time u can get ur experience,it's worth, trust me.when u get used to it,you will can play hard mode on many game, now any game i played,i touch hard mode, and it's just an piece of cake,of course there are some game still too hard, you just need to play in medium mode, and then go on.

for now i play game like a crazy bitch, without hard mode will make the good game to be damn boring sh*t to me

I wouldn't exactly say that playing a game on hard mode straight-off is the best idea, as alot of newbies will find themselves dieing alot and just giving the game up. When I get a new game now, I always set it to 'normal' mode, or whatever it is in the middle. This means it's not so hard that I want to smash my controller, and not so easy that it bores me. It means you can spend more time concentrating on the story and everything aswell, rather then just thinking about how to best prepare for what's coming round the next corner.

Anyway, this is kind of stealing my topic idea. sad.gif

I`m getting better at FPSs i completed COD BO on Hardened.I am trying to complete MW1 on veteran but am stuck on it lol.

Completing CoD on any difficulty does not make you good at an FPS and neither does playing the multiplayer.

What does then? dontgetit.gif

If you have a general interest in games, then I'd highly recommend N4G.com It doesn't have an agenda, and is made up of RSS feeds from countless gaming sites from all over the world.

If you've got the hots for a particular game, then create a google news alert for it. Just type into google the name of the game in quotation marks, click on news then at the bottom of the page is an option to create a news alert. This is good if you want to know everything about a game that is in development.

If you want to know more about a game that's already published, try seeing if there's an official forum hosted by the game's main site. You can get some whiney assed posters on these forums "Oh why oh why can't it be like the first one where you had to find water every ten minutes to stay alive?", but also you'll find members who look into the game and find things out you would have missed.

What does then?

Well, FPS is just a general term that refers to the style of gameplay (first person shooting).

However, there are tons of FPS' and a lot of them play very differently meaning you can be good at one and sh*t at another.

Plus, to be actually 'good' at a certain game you have to compete against other people; in other words, play multiplayer.

By the way, I'd recommend playing Team Fortress or Battlefield if you want to actually play games that require some teamwork and skill.

Why doesn't playing the multiplayer make you better?

Why doesn't playing the multiplayer make you better?

Because a multiplayer mode almost fully based on lone wolf reaction time spraying will not make you good at a vehicle and team based game FPS.

FPS is a huge genre with many different types of games.

Shinobi? terrible guess i know, but i couldn't help myself biggrin.gif

Nope.gif

Darkstalkers. Capcom's forgotten franchise. Well, forgotten if you don't count forgotten worlds (lol).

Anyway, Gaming is much bigger than before. I see everyone talking about FPS' as if that's the only genre.

If you want to keep up with shooters, fine, please do. But I'm just pointing out that gaming itself is huge, and there are many different genres. I myself am particular to companies and old school games, plus the overlooked titles of this age and the unique.

Looking forward to that SUDA51 game for the 360!

You're splitting hairs here. He's basically saying he's getting better at games in the first person where the main objective is to shoot the other guy.

MMO's are bigger, no?

and fighters are just as competitive, if not more so.

On consoles, I'd say FPS are currently the most played online. I may be wrong, and am not going for an argument, but just seems to me that all my friends play is FPS online.
