Is new york as gritty as librety city

Recommended Posts

Im sure there will be some areas that will be like that but the more "tourist" areas of city would be cleaned up probably.

While your on the topic of rubbish laying around the city.Does anyone else get annoyed when you hit a black bin bag at full speed and your car jumps up in the air and you lose control. If you hit a bin bag at that speed it would not make one bit of difference to your car unless it had bricks in or something......Diamonds perhaps tounge.gif

My husband worked in New York City in the 80's (he lived in New Jersey but worked in New York City) and he said the city was very gritty. But I don't know about nowadays, the city seems to be calm right now tounge.gif

When I went recently it was very clean, better than many areas in the UK. Given New York's notoriety for being dirty and gritty, I assume Giuliani cleaned it up.

GTA brings out the worst of cities, it puts emphasis on the crime. I would doubt that it's actually like that, except in the Bronx(?).

Though I would be surprised if I saw a man wearing track pants and a brown leather jacket run down the street pushing people out of the way.

over all, its a very good impression of NYC. one of the few oddities i've found is how homeless people roam everywhere at night, this doesnt happen in most areas of the real city. another is how there are certain areas for cars and other people.

I've been New York a good number of times, and I can tell you many parts of New York, really are very grimey and gritty. Downtown Manhattan is generally relatively clean, and the rest of borough looks ok. However, many parts of Brooklyn and The Bronx look very, gritty. The trash-filled alleyways, garbage cans, decrepit cars - it really is like that. Some parts of Queens look gritty too, but one half of that borough is made up mostly of nice, suburban areas.

If there was one thing that GTA 4 got very right, it was its re-creation of New York City. Liberty City in GTA IV very much looked like New York - I would go as far to say that it is the most realistic and convincing New York-based environment ever seen in a video game.

In Grand Theft Auto you want to stereotype. That's what makes up for about 99% of the humor.

Although it has modern features, for purposes of a crime story Liberty City is more like New York 1970-1990, with the sense that authorities are only beginning to crack down. In real life they cracked down over a decade ago. After years of aggressive police and social tactics New York is one of the safest big cities and its murder rate is down where it was before World War II.

Chinatown is extremely gritty, so are the poor sections of the Bronx. The wealthier parts like the Upper West Side are fairly clean, it's just the air is extremely polluted. The Bronx is a pretty scary place during the night in my opinion, except for the area around Yankee Stadium

The rivers are actually much dirtier then it is in the game. You wouldn't want to eat anything out of the East River or Hudson Rivers.

Crime is very low thanks to the good work of the NYPD, homeless people do roam around, especially in the subway. If you live in NYC, it is almost impossible to miss the homeless people in the trains, and they also live in the train cars and tunnels. Also, you would normally run into those people trying to sell you fake stuff like fake LV bags for 50 bucks. It would have been funny of some people in LC tried to sell you Perseus stuff for $20.

NYC is always viewed as a mean street. But honestly, real NYC today IMO is just as safe as any other safe city in the country.

Two years ago, I hopped over to Vancouver, Canada. Our hotel was just a skimmer away from the infamous Downtown Eastside (it was the only one with rooms open). That is a real drug ridden cesspool. If you park your car there, expect your windows broken into. Once in a while I'd hear police sirens scream over to Chinatown day and night cuffing a cluster of drug pushers. It be easy to get beaten up around here. And if you do get beaten up, good luck finding medical help. Nearly all the ambulances in Vancouver at the time had a nice "ON STRIKE" sticker taped on the back door. Whoopee.

I think GTA IV tried to add the character of NYC's rudeness, crime was an afterthought.

I don't know but the mayor and some other NY officials apparently got pissed of by the way GTA portrays the city lol

That's because the government of NYC is a bunch of bitches. They'd find a reason to complain about anything.
