A White CJ
Some people would consider this less "fun", but I think the inventory system could be improved by making it function realistically. When you click Start the Inventory Menu appears, showing a picture of you and a crosshair. You can move around the crosshair and select items then move them to another part of your body (a pocket, a backpack, down your crotch). All objects in the "weapons" category can be selected from a radial menu (all the good games are using them) so that you don't have to screw around with the Inventory every time a fight breaks out. This is the most realistic way I can see implementing an inventory system. GTA: SA and GTA: IV look weird with you dude's guns appearing out of thin air, but it got over-the-top ridiculous in RDR where you were a walking armory and warehouse even on foot. Items can be saved by putting them in vehicle trunks and safehouses. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/468872-new-inventory-system/ Share on other sites
The_Mario_Man
I dunno. What would be the difference between having a pistol in your pants vs your backpack? AceRay
ha ha no. anyone who has ever played the Alone in the Dark remake will know that having to arrange stuff on the protagonist is a really bad idea. It was really hard to control and was confusing. Worse of all, it took ages to get anything. It can take minutes to get combine stuff. It had a quick select thing, but that wasn't properly implemented either. I usually overwrite a really long combo when I accidentally say yes to a lighter or something stupid. In addition, the most vital time to use it is when your getting attacked by Vampires or whatever, and they were pretty fast, so you didn't get much time to get stuff. A system like that requires the game to pause. It was a horrible real time device. This would also force people to wear backpacks, which I think look really retarded on video game characters. It also sounds as though this would pause the game, and I like real time. Makes it more intense. RDR had the right idea for me. The difference was, that the gun appears on Marston's back. if you swap rifles/repeaters/shotgun, they would just appear on his back replacing the current one, but if you used the same rifle and pistol for a long time(and only swap during Safehouses), it would be alright. And putting stuff in vehicle trunks is a really bad idea. What if I lose the car? what if it blows up? Also, I think the weapon screen should be something like RDR. Instead of having to go through a list, I get a wheel for fast action. Claude4Catalina
admittedly, TC: NYC's weapon stprage system was pretty accurate, simply because it consisted of 'slots', but I thought of an upgrade; each weapon weighing 'blocks', say giving you 12 'blocks' which could be filled by weapons, ammunition would be disregaurded because it could make the systema bit too complicated, so going by IV's weapon list: Glock: One unit Desert Eagle: Two units Ithaca 37 Stakeout: Three units Remington 1100: Four units Micro Uzi: Two units SW MP10: Three units AK 47: Four units M4A1: Four units Remington 700: Four units PSG-1: Four units RPG 7: Five units Molotov Cocktail: One unit Grenade: One unit so for example, for 12 units of space, you could still carry: AK 47, SW MP10, Ithaca 37, Glock and one thrown. I dont think it would be a good idea to cut down on what you can carry, but if people are gonna sticklers for realism, this is about as good of a compromise I can think of. Emm Ell
I didn't think RDR was THAT bad with this, yes you could carry loads of weapons but at least the effort was made to display them on the character? jf6293
I like this idea, depending on how it is done, Assassin's Creed was done well with the 4 arrow buttons as weapons, then you could open the full menu for the rest, and they were all displayed on your body, it could be a good idea, as long as it isn't a pain more than anything Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/468872-new-inventory-system/#findComment-1060324272 Share on other sites
Ryan
Can't say I really care for the idea. I think it's fine where it's at. What I would like to see improved with the weapons system though is instead of being able to only carry one weapon from each class (Assault Rifles, SMG, Pistol, ect..) would be if you had a limit to how many weapons you could carry. So instead of only being able to take an AK47 or M4, you'd be able to take both if you wanted. Secura
We alreay had this debate remember, in that one thread..that one time. I will just say what i said back then, getting into the back off your car when every freaking cop in the city wants you the dead the swat the noose, the fib, The army and you get out of your car completely unarmed a sitting duck to get a weapon from a car you will probably never use again. In the almighty words of James may "This idea is complete Cock" Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/468872-new-inventory-system/#findComment-1060324366 Share on other sites
