Need Idea's For A New Graphic's Card

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm getting a Graphic's Card & I need to know one that can run GTA IV on maximum settings. Post here.

dont go with nvidia.

Good advice. Next time, keep it to yourself. Just because you don't like something, does not make it bad.

Well, nobody gives a flying f*ck about your opinion. Just because you had one bad experience (which probably is more your fault than anybody else's) does not make Nvidia a sh*tty manufacturer. Both ATI and Nvidia are excellent graphics card manufacturers and over time, both have managed to bring out some sturdy and solid GPUs. If you think there are people who are dissatisfied with Nvidia, then there are an equal number of people who are unhappy with ATI. What would you recommend then? Intel?

The selection of a graphics card should be based more on your requirement and budget, and a little bit on personal preference. It's definitely not going to revolve around your opinion about a particular manufacturer. Next time you post your opinion, make sure it's based on good logical reasoning, not your foolish sentiments.

You had a bad experience with your $3000 Alienware laptop which uses a Nvidia graphics and can't play GTA IV does not automatically Nvidia sucks. All Nvidia does is provide the GPU, whatever Alienware does to it, it's their business.

If the Alienware uses a AMD graphic and you can't play GTA IV, you will most likely say "Don't go with AMD".

Both cards have their good and bad and it all depends on user preferences.

For OP to pick a card, they have to consider the following

- The price range or how much they're willing to spend

- Screen resolution they want to play or planning to play in the future.

- Not here to set a world record FPS, just playable enough so it delivers a enjoyable experience.

- Read reviews and do research

well yeah, considering this is a GTA forum, and he specifically wants help deciding on a card to play GTA. As you mentioned, I just had to return a brand new laptop because the nvidia card wasnt compatible with GTA, so of course, if someone asks me for advice on a graphics card for playing GTA, my advice will be "dont go with nvidia". Please show me where I said "nvidia sucks"....you can't, because I didnt, so dont put words in my mouth. Nvidia makes great cards, but I can't ignore what I just went through with respect to GTA...so if you dont like my opinion, then ignore it. As for doing research, if YOU did some research you would find that nvidia has a long history of compatibility issues with GTA IV.

Please explain how my "bad experience" was my fault.

Okay, first of all, there is no such thing as an incompatible graphics card. Search around the forums and the internet and you'll find quite a few people who have had no problems running the game with the Nvidia 460M that you had inside your Alienware laptop. From your previous topic, only 2 plausible conclusions can be drawn:

a) You were dealt a rough hand and the graphics card installed in the laptop was faulty; or

b) There was something wrong with the laptop itself which caused it to not recognize the dedicated GPU.

In either of the above 2 cases, you cannot say that this was Nvidia's fault in any way. If anything, it's Alienware's fault and I see that they have agreed to give you a full refund. Even if you had just got the laptop replaced with another one with the same specifications, I'm pretty sure the game would have worked fine.

Off Topic, but I think everyone grilled this guy enough

Honestly, I don't understand why you would have bought a $3000 laptop. Unless your going to be playing GTA IV at work or at the coffee shop, a $3000 desktop would have been much faster. Also, IMHO Alienware is overpriced. Buying a $400 netbook for work/school (if you really needed) and spending whatever else you had on a new desktop would have been a much better deal. For the $3000 you had refunded this PC will most likely run anything for the next 5 years or more

because I dont like desktop computers, and I dont want an "office" setup in my home.

YankeesPwnMets

ok, but you need to understand that laptops are expensive for their specs, and if you don't need a laptop, a desktop will be able to run the game much more easily, and with a lot less heat. If possible, if those parts were desktop compatible it probably be worth around $1000-$1500. IMO that PC is pretty weak for $3000, and it probrably won't run that many more games in the future

I just had to return a brand new laptop because the nvidia card wasnt compatible with GTA

lol.

There absolutely is "such a thing" as an incompatible gpu...nvidia has all sorts of special updates in their drivers for specific games. Google it. Do you know how to use Google? I can draw you a picture if that would help you. Also, I did "search around the forums" for people running the 460m and your "quite a few" claim, actually turned out to be one person (other than me), and not surprisingly, the guy was posting about...you guessed it...incompatibility with GTA IV.

Your logic is pretty flawed, and you clearly dont know much about how computers work, so maybe you should stop pulling words out of your ass, and think before you "Add Reply". The problem is the "optimus" technology. Optimus technology will use your computers onboard gpu for normal use, and then when a major demand is made on the system...such as launching GTA IV, the 460m card will kick in to take care of things. Unfortunately, this technology isn't compatible with GTA IV, because the 460m doesnt kick in like its supposed to...but it does with other games. Now shut the f*ck up and help the starter of this thread pick a card, you tumbling, tumbling dickweed.

the f*cking retard above this post.

Buying an Alienware shows how much you know about computes so why don't you shut the f*ck up and go back to your play pen

and continue to do whatever sh*t that is your doing.

As for putting words in your mouth...

If no one counter attack, will you still state your reasons behind your claim in the first place?

I don't think so a you will just let it slide as if what you said is correct and to the uneducated they will believe in your bullsh*t and guess what? Avoid Nvidia at all cause when they're planning to play this game. Then it's up to us to clean up the "mess" you make you made by providing misleading info. Just because you had problems with Nvidia does not mean you apply to everyone.

"Don't go with Nvidia" without any valid reasons immediately implies "Nvidia sucks".

Next time make sure the words your planning to say is actually link to the neurons in your brain before spitting it out. :|

So how long have you been trying to speak English? Keep at it, you'll get it one day.

Dumbass. I stated my "reason", and it was a good one. I shared my personal experience with Nvidia, which is a lot better than the "I'm sure that...blah blah" and "I bet...blah blah" bullsh*t speculative nonsense most of the people in this thread are spewing. I gave a valid reason, I'm sorry you missed it. Maybe you need a few more English lessons, or maybe move on to the next Rosetta Stone dvd, who knows.. I never said Nvidia sucks. I stated above that they make good cards....BUT compatibility issues with GTA do (obviously) exist. You are a complete f*cking moron who can't speak English and your use of the word "neurons" was absolutely hysterical.

yeah, thanks for that. I had no idea that laptops are "expensive for their specs" and your revelation that "desktops are more powerful" really changed my perspective on sh*t.

I tried to be nice, but your still acting like an idiot. How do you actually know it's nVidia's issue? I don't believe you ever found the exact cause for the graphics issue? How do you know it's not an issue with the laptop's BIOS, or maybe some software issue with one of Dell's included applications are causing it, or maybe you just became an idiot and disabled some sh*t and it's your fault.

And desktops are more powerful then laptops. I'm pretty sure you can't name a laptop more powerful then the desktop parts I put together in the last page
