PS2 Stories Texture Modding tutorial.

The easiest way forever.

  • Open the .chk (or .xtx) you want to mod in GTAStories Texture Viewer and export texture as a .png image.

  • Open it in Paint or Photoshop and re-draw. smile.gif
  • Open this .png file in OPTPiX iMageStudio for PS2.

  • Open original .chk (.xtx) file and .tm2 texture in HEX editor (I strongly recommend tool called "010 Editor")
  • You can see that data is practically the same (espesially if you edited only some parts of one texture). Anyway, it is very easy to understand where it begins.

    So, in my texture I can copy all data in .tm2 file from 0040h and past it in .xtx from 00B0h. Save.

(Very simple mod, made in 2 minutes)

Everything is like with PS2 Image Studio. You need to export image using GIMP & a plugin to .raw format in proper format (4 bit/8 bit) with turned PSP-swizzing mode. Next, HEX-ing is easy. icon14.gif

If you dont belive, I can give the XTX, but better to draw something much better and provide as VCS modification).

So, lets re-draw all loading textures in PSP-VCS! (And also menu and etc...) smile.gif

Converting files:

First of all you need to download sonicstage and himrenderer

Then just open up the file and there you have it... An at3 file converted into a .ogg, .wav or .mp3. There you go. I have included 1 of the radio stations from LCS to prove it. But it is far too big to be an attachment here, so those of you without access to filefront will just have to take my word for it.

Making new .at3 files:

First off you need sony sound forge 8.0d free trial version the ATRAC3 codec and a song that you wish to convert...

Open your sound file in Sound Forge

Select all (CTRL-A), then copy (CTRL-C)

Click File->New

In the New Window dialog select "44,100" as the Sample rate, "16 bit" as the Bit-depth and "Stereo" as in below;

Paste your sound into the new project.

Click File->Save As

For Save as type choose "Wave (Microsoft) (*.wav)"

For Template Click the Custom… button

Under Custom Template – Wave (Microsoft)

Template: – type a name that will help you remember this is your at3 template

Format: – choose "ATRAC3"

Attributes: – "132kbps STEREO" (NOTE: I have also tried 66 which works as well, but the sound quality is crap.)

Click OK

Click Save on the Save As dialog, congratulations you now have an at3 file!

Adding your new files into the game:

Then once you are done, just move your new file into the area of your ISO where all of the sounds are located. Make sure you replace an existing file. The file you are replacing cannot be smaller than the file you are replacing it with...
