It's a toss up between Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World. I'll go with SMB3, because it's much more difficult (sans flute).

I've got the Super Mario All-Stars cartridge, the one with Super Mario World on it.

We must have different cartridges, then, because World certainly isn't on my All-Stars cart.

Some carts have it.

My favorite, would be Super Mario World 2, even though Yoshi was the real star. I just love destroying stuff with those eggs and the coloring book style graphics.

Yeah, my friends all felt gypped because I had the cart with SMW on it and they had to switch carts to play it.

I don't know about the NES version, but Super Mario Bros. 3 on GBA is extremely easy in my opinion (probably because of the very powerful suits). Super Mario World is much more difficult than Super Mario Bros. 3. I have Super Mario World on SNES, and I'm sure that's the first console game that I have played (and owned). I'd say Super Mario Bros. 3 does an amazing job with the power-ups, but Super Mario World is extremely epic when you have Yoshi. Overall, probably due to nostalgia, I'd say Super Mario World is my favorite.

Super Mario World and Super Mario 64. Every Mario game after those is just Nintendo milking that cow again and again and again...

That's probably bias, you played SMW and SM64 as a kid? And that makes them them exceptions to your rule?

Nintendo has always been milking Mario, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Most of the games are fun, well designed and have enough differences to separate them from one another.

Of course I played them as a kid, and even still do with emulators from time to time, but it's just getting ridiculous. Sure, there're some "original" Mario games, but the rest of them are just remakes with some tweaked plots or "extra" levels, or the exact same games of yesteryear with improved graphics. I know the younger generations wouldn't know the original games (unless they like going "retro"), but can't Nintendo just let Mario (and the rest of the usual characters like Luigi, Bowser, the Princess, etc.) rest for at least 5 years before releasing more games about them? Don't they have other characters or franchises to exploit?

So by what you're saying, I take it you haven't actually played a Mario game since Mario 64.

I've played the new Super Mario Bros for the Wii, yeah, the graphics are nice but... come on, it's the same game from the 1980's. I can excuse Nintendo for re-releasing the Mario All-Stars game due to the 25th anniversary of Mario, but they need to focus more in other franchises and let Mario rest for a while, then I might consider getting a Wii myself.

That's because it's a god damn remake of the same game from the 1980's, I think that allows it to fall into a category which puts them right beside eachother.

Is that the only Mario game newer than 64 that you have played?
