Underground Hip-Hop Wanted

Long Haired Freaky Guy

I've been listening to Kno - Death Is Silent alot recently, and it's made me want some more "Underground Hip-Hop".

At the moment, my most highly rated artists/groups/producers have to be Cunninlynguists, Atmosphere, RJD2 and a few others, and that's the type I'm going for. I used to listen to Immortal but he slowly bored me, always talking about the same subject over and over. It's the non-serious type I'm wanting some more of, where they know how to have fun yet make dope beats.

I know some of you know what I'm going for.

And yes, this could have been asked in the official topic, but meh, wanted my own topic for suggestions...might help others too and I didn't want it lost within the many pages of that topic.

And yes, before anyone says it, yes I am obviously a 'n00b' when it comes 'Underground Hip-Hop', so don't pick up onything I say if it's wrong, just advise me on it. And I don't claim to know much about this genre, as I only started listening to it recently after an old topic on here. All am looking for is some friendly recomendations on some albums/songs to get hold of.

MF DOOM(Viktor Vaugn, King Gheedorah, Madvillain), Count Bass D, Genelec and Memphis Reigns, Jurrasic 5, Celph Titled, Blu & Exile, Fashawn, Gangstarr(not really underground, but dope), Big L(also not really undergorund, but great lyricist), Jedi Mind Tricks(Psycho Social & Violent By Design only), Jazz Addixx, Double Helix, Common's old stuff, Blackstar(Mos Def & Talib Kweli), Non Phixion, People Under The Stairs, R.A. the Rugged Man, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Jay Electronica, Jake One, Brother Ali, Murs's old stuff.

that's all I can remember right now, should be a good start cool.gif

also check out The White Albulum, a black album remix by Kno. sh*t's dope.

I'd suggest checking out Dr. Octagon (aka Kool Keith). My favorite albums of his are Octagonecologyst and The Return of Dr. Octagon.

His stuff is pretty surreal and abstract, self-described as "...an extraterrestrial time traveling gynecologist and surgeon from the planet Jupiter." Need I say more?

Cheers, will check alot of these out. I've already heard some MF Doom, and for me he was abit 'heavy'. I don't know how to explain it, and it may not seem 'heavy' to you lot. Also got all Jurassic 5 albums, and got that Jedi Mind Tricks album, just not yet played it that much. I had it a few years back and lost it, but got it back now and need to give it a listen.

Will check them all out again though, abit older now since I last heard them, and the songs may be different to me now.

Is Jeru the Damaja classed an underground?

kind of, he's still pretty tight though. good production from Dj Premier.

Also, Dr. Octagon is awesome. especially when mixed with drugs. Deltron 3030 is nice too. Del the Funkee Homosapien is a good rapper and Dan the Automator is an awesome producer. Check out everything he's been involved with.

also, MF DOOM + Rjd2:

I've been listening to Kno - Death Is Silent alot recently,

I thought I was the only one who listened to that on the forums icon14.gif . It's a good idea to have an underground hip hop topic since alot of the stuff in the other topic is more mainstream stuff.

Finn 7 five 11

Haha i am the biggest noob when it comes to underground hip hop, i thought all the music i was listening to was mainstream, guess i was wrong, underground is by far the best form of hip hop though.

You want underground? I heard Nelson Mandela released an album, you should check him out.

Skins mentioned it in another topic, decided to check it out. Excellent album!

Try Aesop Rock, Busdriver, Beastie Boys (not underground but fun as hell. Try Paul's Boutique), Felt (It features Slug of Atmosphere. Try their song 'Gangster Ass Anthony'),. That's all I can think of.
