^sounds wild. thats what the game needs more of. vicious firefights that arent in missions and that you dont have to participate in.

Follow my tips and you can experience all this, its better than nothing.

One last and final expriment peformed its genrally offical(see what i did there <- ) The cops can't kill anyone the gang members it seems have :

More health

better weaponary

better reflexes

better intelligence

better weapon skill

faster to shoot

tactical positoning

will pick up weapons off of the floor

Will drive better

Will have a high bullet hit rate.

The cops have none of these things and it has become painfully obvious that it is something that needs to be fixed

@Lightning Strike

I've never seen them do that. Which is not to say they don't. Maybe I just haven't noticed.

Anyways, the increased NPC power makes the battles last much longer. Instead of the police wiping the floor with their behinds.

Also with a regular cop armed with a small caliber pistol, how much of a chance would he really stand against a thug with an AK47?

Even though bullets, besides headshots, don't carry their real life damage in the game it would still be difficult to even get a shot off with an AK47 spraying a thunderous volley of bullets everywhere.

So at what point would the cops priority shift from the NPC's to you?

if there was a mini wanted system for AI what if you had 2 stars and some gang dude had 6?

when would the police start to ignore/attack you?

Hmm good point, well obviously you don't have to have a wanted level, for an npc to have one, but if you did, I guess the simplest thing to do, would be for the police to go for the bigger threat, ie I may have 2 stars, but im only carrying a bat and hiding behind a wall, and there's 3 guys with ak's, police will go for the most immeadite threat. In GTA4, even if you have a wanted level and there is a guy shooting, the police will often go for him and ignore me as long im out of the way.

Once while playing IV, I had a one star wanted level, and there was a guy shooting me with a mini uzi, a cop car turned up with two cops, the first cop began shooting the npc with the gun and the second came for me, but the npc killed the other cop, so the cop who was going for me, ran back and shot him. So even al;ready the AI kinda knows who to take out first icon14.gif

Hopefully the AI in the next GTA will be advanced enough to handle this, but the autoaim on IV couldn't even handle the "biggest threat" thing, i could sometimes have a guy shooting me i aim at him and it aims at some old lady behind him, if your protag can't handle it, i don't see the police handling it either.

I want lots of random stuff to happen in the next gta, random interesting and funny things to happen, quite frequently, so you never know whats going to happen.

I think this would work really well. I mean, if police is on in a GTA IV free mode match, doesn't this already essentially happen? Except with other players, but I don't think it would be hard to adapt it to NPC use. It would definitely create more random events.

They made it work for San Andreas, vice city and GTA III, usually it was just cops chasing criminal, but it still happened.

It happens in IV too, just never in cars. I've seen multiple criminals put their hands up and then take off. But yeah, the OP's idea is a definite yes. It would be awesome to follow two or three cops to a shootout xD.
