I can't get over how well this game has been received critically. I know a bunch of the reviews are paid off much the same way IV got perfect 10s out the ass, and this game does have its strong points, but its still a disappointing cocktease.

I am in the same boat as you. I mean how the hell can it receive pretty much the same ratings as Saints Row 2 ? I remember reading over the reviews and couldn't really find anything about the city of steelport itself so I assumed it was average, nothing great about it but nothing wrong with it either. Yet I get the game and its a f*cking ghost town, and what peds there are floating about seem to be so one dimensional.

 

Can anyone suggest a good site for game reviews, gamespot and IGN used to be my go-tos but I have wised up to there paid reviews.

Whilst GTA IV did seem quite obviously paid off for the reviews I feel it kind of deserves higher ratings cause even though it didn't contain the zany fun from San Andreas it was a bold attempt to take the series in the new direction which I admire.

 

Saints Row The Third on the other hand, tried to capitalise on the strengths from Saints Row 2 and ended up falling flat on its face and being not all that enjoyable in my opinion.

You cant throw "poo" in saints row, but you can be a toilet, beat someone with a purple floppy dildo that really looks like a p*nis, and you can also run naked. However, being a toilet is kid crap, the dildo thing is no longer funny (since in SR:TT it is litterally forced on us a million times. HAHAHA FUNNY HEHEHE WOOO! Not funny anymore, it got old the first few times i used it in GTA SA.), and running naked, ok its funny, but still pretty dumb.

I really only looks towards Yahtzee (Zero Punctuation) and Angry Joe on youtube. They both play through the games and actually point out the good and bad. Yahtzee doesn't even mention mp usually because he thinks mp should not be the reason you buy a game. Angry Joe is very creative and tells it like it is. He even went to a game con and bitched out a Capcom rep for MvC3 being so empty.

Just finished the campaign, I hated it from the beginning but the movie like ending just completely nailed it, one of the worse campaigns I've ever played, maybe the worse. This game is still fun, but not SR1 or SR2 at all. I like the gang feel, at least some gang feel, but this games feel and just everything was sh*t. Complete sh*t.

 

To think they spent 3 years to make this too......

Or it's an easter egg/glitch where if your flying around or in the middle of nowhere you will suddenly hear music or static noise for no apparrent reason even if your radio is off.

From the playthroughs I've seen of the DLC, the GenkiiBowl seems to be just a bunch of reskined activities. Those being Escort, Tank Mayham and Genkii game show.

They are. Volition lied. Its just activities. BUT it adds 4 new activities, 5 new homies, and 5 new cars. So i guess its an OK deal. But DLC in Saints row 2 is way better.

Just gave Genkibowl a whirl. As mentioned it really is just a re-skinning of activities, so there are no spoilers. Your first "mission" is just Genki's Murdertime in a new arena, the second is an escort mission using Genki's flamethrower car (which is quite cool actually). The third, which is my favorite, involves a giant ball of yarn that is on a path of destruction (Tank-Mayhem). Again go for the fences. Supposedly you get a homie and you can use the yarn ball out of the activity, I haven't tried it yet though.

 

After you complete those you need to go back and finish the second level of each activity, then you get to the fourth and final mission, Sad Panda Skydiving. I liked this one in that it was unique from other activities, but it lacked explanation. When playing make sure to focus on landing on the designated rooftops, not going through hoops.

 

All-in-all it was fun for an hour, but there is not much replay value here. I'm sure I'll have fun though rolling a ball of yarn through Steelport. Value-wise I can't say, as I got the Season Pass for free with my pre-order. I was really hoping for some more actual mission content, stuff that would add to the story. I can't argue though, it was free!

If you pre-ordered from THQ.com, they'd give you the Season Pass for free. I believe this was for North America only.

 

As for Genkibowl, I really only liked Sad Panda Skydiving. It was really the only new activity. The others were pretty much just rehashed versions of the Reality Climax, Escort, and Tank Mayhem.

maybe i'm too harsh, but the last missions are even worse that the rest of the game... no matter what end do you choise, one of the final mission will be "fake" : if you save shaundi you have to do "gangsta in space", a fake last battle with killbane... it's funny at first, but too limited in freedom and pointless since it's not a "real" thing; if you kill killbane, the last mission against STAG is nothing special, but the killing of killbane is horrible... two buttons and it's over.

 

worst of all, the two endings are just bad cliffhangers... after the death of killbane i was ready to take over steelport (after the funny "interview" ), and the game just stops...

 

the "save shaundi" one it's a bit better, since STAG is gone (But not totally defeated), but we know nothing about the other characters we met during the game, expecially killbane homself... he can't just run away like this, what kind of ENDing it is?

Agreed. Seriously. This game i will never replay the full story again. The next time i come back to it, will be when the next set of "mission packs" come out. Seriously they Lied. genki Bowl vii is NOT a mission pack. Its just re skinned activities. Its a big joke. They should just release a trophy update for Saints Row 2 to add more replay value to SR2, and make more DLC for it. And stop with SR3. SR3 is horrible. Sad waste of money. Oh well, cant wait till march 20, cause i will be getting my RE operation raccoon city on! Then i will fully forget the Corn Rows Series.
