since it was only ment to be a sort of tester. Why do you think V is taking so damn long.

sorry to go off-topic but what are you talking about? GTA IV wasn't just to test how good the graphics could be.

I know but apprently it wasn't the best Rockstar could have performed, V is said to blow IV out of the water, It better aswell because it has taken ages!

For the last time, GTA IV had and still has awful graphics; on max settings on PC. The game is simply ugly.

What is this, I don't even...

No, no it didn't. Not many sandbox games do; Saints Row, GTA, Fallout. Just Cause 2 looks rather nice though, and is very well optimized too.

IV was a huge step-up from the previous games graphically, but it still even had bad graphics for its time due to the amount of other processes the engine had to do.

Console version is obviously no where near.

I play with ENB most of the time, but I was playing some LAN with my brother earlier today and it just looks awful with no mods.

Sorry, what was this thread about again tounge2.gif

It was about trying to talk about Saints Row on a GTA fansite. Good luck with that folks.

People have a hard time discussing the two separately.

Animations were bad in SR2. Out of all free roaming games I think Mafia 2 had the best character animations. Maybe not technologically the best, but they looked and behaved better than most. When characters walk, run, crouch, get hit, shot etc. they reacted naturally without the slow boring animations of GTA IV. Force Unleashed uses Euphoria and characters in that game moved fast and realistic too. Why the f*ck couldn't Rockstar make their characters move more fluently is beyond me. They all move like fat people with broken ankles.

The basic animations in Mafia 2 were VERY robotic, he runs the exact same every time and sprints the same everytime. And their is only one animation for getting hit by a car, the cutscenes verey beautifully animated though.

I honestly don't know what you've been playing, but GTA IV was, and is, to me at least, stunning.

I say "to me", but the reviews all proved that it isn't just the select few. Just personal opinions, I suppose, but you must have been playing some visually beautiful games to think it had "bad graphics for its time".

The graphics improved with each DLC iteration as well, into The Ballad of Gay Tony undoubtedly. As for sandbox games not looking awesome, I think Red Dead Redemption has also proved that wrong.

But yeah, how about that Saints Row 3... biggrin.gif

When we first began looking at creating a new city for Saints Row: The Third, ideas came in from everywhere.

Artists wanted one thing, our design team wanted another, and even I suggested some community ideas that

had come up after Saints Row 2 had been on the shelves.

http://www.saintsrow.com/sites/saintsrow.c...y_header_02.jpg

With ideas in-hand and an overall goal of the direction Saints Row: The Third was going to go in, our concept

artists started going to work, developing a vision for a brand new city.  With no holds barred, some ideas really

began to spring up, but one of the main concepts that remained was a large, centralized downtown which could

not only be seen from anywhere on the map, but something even bigger than Stilwater had ever seen.

Below are a few examples which were developed during that concept phase and are being worked into the

actual city of Steelport.  Take note of the towering statue overlooking downtown from the bay.  The casino-lined

streets all lit up with neon.  The run down outskirts complete with Red Light district, and even a nuclear plant,

ready for the most fashionable of nightlife.  In the future, we'll be showing how these early concepts evolved

into the final city of Steelport, but for now, think about what could be...

Those pictures prove the city is based on New York, unless we've known this for a while but the statue is based on the statue of liberty, the brdges resemble the broooklyn and manhattan bridges and the fact there are lots of skyscrapers closely packed together and then having water right next to them is definitely based on manhattan. The pictures look good and hopefully the city in game will look as good as them.

The scenery of Stillport reminds me A LOT of Anywhere City from GTA2.

Very industrial, low-morale and downtrodden city.

You are an aperture through which the universe is looking at and exploring itself.

In a previous news post, we announced that Saints Row: The Third had been chosen to be on the cover of this month's OXM UK magazine.  Grabbing a cover is always fantastic news for those of us here at the studio, and in preparation for the OXM article, they came out to our studio and setup their camera.  A lucky participant was Project Design Director, Scott Phillips, who sat down on the comfy couches in our lobby to give an interview.

One of the larger topics covered in the video below are the weapons in Saints Row: The Third, particularly the Airstrike, and the RC Vehicle Gun.  Click on the play button below to learn more about the weapons, our overall design direction of Saints Row: The Third, and how we continue to put fun gameplay first.

Hey man, can you edit your post on this page and snip the large images from the quote? Thanks man. icon14.gif

I watched the video and the chap mentions their main objective is to put fun first. "If it's fun and the fans want it, we'll leave it in -

and if it doesn't fit, we'll make it fit." - wrong. That's where they're wrong - a lot of stuff looks out of place but that's relative to you and me. I think they should make the crazy things more believable or have some moderation.

Other than that, the art, the story and city look great. I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

@Piperka: Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

THQ today announced Saints Row Initiation Station, allowing players to create and share custom-created characters that they can then download and play in Saints Row: The Third.

Per THQ:

Play as characters inspired by your favorite downward-spiraling train wreck celebrity, prima donna professional athlete, or as Steelport's newest costumed superhero (or villain).

Save your master creations and share them with friends. Download other characters for your own use and tweak them just the way you like.

Collaborate with a friend to create your own dynamic duo for co-op play. Cowboy and Indian? Dominatrix and sex slave? Tag-team wrestling partners with sordid pasts? Your twisted imagination is the limit.

Saints Row Initiation Station will be available free on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in advance of the release of Saints Row: The Third this holiday. Those who pre-order Red Faction: Armageddon will be given early access to the Initiation Station via a download code.

Looks like they're really improve things that annoyed me. I hated spending an hour just to re-create CJ by a youtube guide. Now I'll be able to simply download him.

Okay, I have two thing's to say about Saints Row: The Third;

One. Steelport is going to blow Liberty City like the f*cking wind in a tornado, I mean, Steelport just look's like SUCH a better urban environment (Not saying that LC isn't epic, It's just that Steelport look's like a BEAST).

Two. You can't judge Saints Row: The Third on just how bad the second installment was (I honestly don't even count the second game as a game, I honestly really do think that the third in my eyes is the second because we obviously all know that Saints Row 2 was a sorry ass excuse for a game). Saints Row: The Third is the second most anticipated game of the year for me (Behind Skyrim, of course).

The concept art looks awesome, but we've not seen a proper in-game shot of the city/skyline.
