Saints Row 3

I totally forgot about the frame rate drop in SR2 until I started a new game tonight. I've only ever completed it with cheats on so most of the achievements never unlocked for me. So hopefully its going to keep me going until SR3 is going to have a release date. I think the thing I dislike about the driving physics after it being fresh now is the fact every car/bike seems to have the same feel to it. Not to mention it feels slow as f*ck once your hitting top speed. I have to say I really enjoy the fact that once you hit the hand break going into a turn its 90% a sh*t load easier than it was in IV.

I'll be glad if SR3 has different feels for different cars, although I'd still like the easy hand break turns. But I'm just lazy like that.

I'd rather the game didn't try to introduce any manner of realism to its frat boy misanthropy. I think the moment Saints Row asks you to take it seriously is the moment the whole thing begins to frey at the seams. The game is completely puerile, to the highest degree. It's filled to the brim with seedy stereotypes, a complete lack of tact and a baseness humour that I find easy to forgive because unlike most other titles out there it doesn't try to justify its bedraggled lust for violence as some kind of artistic endeavour.

It's completely birdbrained, in an innocent type of way. Which is also the reason why I reserve no expectations for the third, other than to have yet more daft distractions in hot dog suits. To ask anything higher of Saints Row would be like asking that inbred bumpkin kid from Deliverance to play out a beautiful sonata.

I'm waiting for Jordan to do his trademark frame by frame analysis on that one.

Brown Sugar

the "gameplay footage" it showed you was what the trailer actually was, a punch in the balls.

they're trying too hard to be funny although i never found any saints row game funny, maybe I would have if I was 10.

Would be a good call to keep in mind what day it is tomorrow, chaps.

Mos' Def!

Its happening with other games too, its a bad idea ruining games with tiny trailers.

Well at least people react to being hit instead of falling over like blowdolls. Anyone notice that disembodied Johnny Gat head on the bottom right corner?

7am waking up in the morning?

Gotta get fresh, gotta go downstairs?

That must be the best début trailer ever.

Snake Without a Tongue

I hate Saints Row, but that trailer really made me laugh. It probably sucks though if you were someone honestly looking forward to seeing gameplay.

The trailer was 2 seconds of Saints Row The Third, and 29 seconds of THQ and Volition Promotions.

I bet that was just an April fools joke.

So far we know of five vehicles in the game, from the debut trailer:

Starting with the purple car on the left:

Could this possibly be a Bezier? Or perhaps the Fer der Lance has returned! Your thoughts?

The Police car:

This has definately got to be the new Five-O!

Silver car:

Bootlegger perhaps?

Black car:

This looks unfamiliar and could be anything. But to me it sort of looks like a new Raycaster.

Head on trailer:

All I can say is; LOL!

In San Andreas it was funny because it was set in a more 'realistic' environment where it looked totally outlandish that this homeboy was walking around Vegas harassing local tourists with a dildo.

Part of me thinks that they're trying too hard to be 'crazy' at the expense of them making a good game. There's no intelligence in their humour.

Rockstar seem to be from the school of Monty Python where things where absolutely crazy but their was a certain intelligence to pull it off, where Saints Row is more like: "lets put in a giant banana in the corner cause it's crazy!"

Maybe I just don't get it. I want to enjoy this game but some of the screens are a bit off-putting.[/font]

Reason why I never liked Saints Row and refuse to purchase the games. Reason why I prefer the GTA franchise over Saints Row big time.

Yes plain stupid 'crazy' games can be fun but it tres too hard to be 'over the top and funny' that it becomes sad, cheap and retarded (in my opinion). Lucky for the publishers and developers of the franchise that other people think otherwise and do dig their approach.

Yeah, they should've done that imo. This really wasn't that funny.

And nice analyzing Piperka... was only a matter of time until someone would do that I guess. smile.gif

@Piperka

The First (Purple) car and the last one (black) are the same model. The white car is four door sedan, so I doubt if it is Bootlegger.

How true. Even in SA as stupid as it was at times the humor did have some intelligence behind it.

Saints Row's humor is pure garbage IMO. It's pretty much like watching some of these new parody movies (Dance Flick, Meet The Spartans, Epic Movie etc).

The French magazine Consoles + of April has a great preview of Saints Row The Third ! you can see the cover on their official blog.

- Philippe Loren has a french accent, thus making him a Walloon Belgian.

- The release date is listed as "November".

- The graphic engine is "finally worthy of the next-gen consoles".

- One of the influences for Steelport is the alternate Hill Valley from Back to the Future 2. This is so awesome.

- Between 15 and 20% of the missions don't happen on the main map, but on "extern places", like the first mission in Loren's jet.

- Some mini-games will be as well. This allow for missions very differents from what this genre of games usually delivers, say Greg.

- QTE Fights will be present, the first fight on the jet will be played this way.

- You will have to create a new avatar, since the new engine is not compatible with the previous one.

- You can paint your character green, blue or gold.

- The cars are much better to handle than the SR2 cars. A small blur effect will appear when you accelerate.

- One new screenshot : The MC is robbing a gunsmith. You can see a lot of guns, like the pistol the MC uses (it looks a lot like a Strayer Voigt Infinity with a compensator), and guns on the shelves : old AK47, newer (all black) AK 103, some kind of Barrett, M4, on an unknown sniper rifle on the counter.

- When asked if a Saints Row 4 is already on the way, Greg responds "If there is a SR4, we would probably use the same technology The Third uses, because we are very happy with it."

- There is a nuclear plant, and it seems it is a HQ you will have to conquer.

- Some ideas, abandonned because of a lack of time during the creation of SR2, will appear in SR3.

- No cover system. They want a fast, fluid, fun combat system.

- When asked if Steelport is bigger than Stillwater, Greg's reponse is "I don't know !". They are looking for a ideal size in terms of gameplay. "Maybe the same size, minus the underground places".

- They are very impatients to unveil the photo and video tools, to offer to the players the possibility to share their fun moments, but they can't talk about it for the moment.

So this is an engine that's finally worthy of 6 year old tech?

Reminds me of good ol' San Andreas.
