I hope Gat returns in SR3. He kicks ass!

He does, also with Pierce and Shaundy.

Pierce? As I read trough the article, they only talked about Gat and Shaundi.

Pierce is a lieutenant, if you want more details, read the stuff I posted on other page.

Here you go, quoting the sales figures again. Do you not know that a lot of people who bought IV and later found the game disappointing (I have even know some who regretted buying the game and trade it for another game). On this forum, you could read a lot of members' complaints about GTA IV, stating how it is boring compare to III-era GTAs or even to SR games. If R* should do V in the same format as IV, the disgruntled players would think twice of buying it. They would rather spend their money on other games, maybe even buying SR3 instead. That would not sound good to R*, would it?

Of course I know it disappointed a lot of people. Hell I've participated in so many GTA IV complaint threads I've now lost count.

However would R* be slashing their wrists if they lost "disgruntled players" to SR?

I doubt it, because with these players lost it's easy to fill the void with NEW ones. I've seen people post in the GTA IV forum who have never even played GTA pre-GTA IV with GTA IV being their first game in the series.

Besides a lot of people liked the game too (myself being one of them). It's funny, because out of everyone I know in person who bought GTA IV none of them said it was boring, or they regretted buying it.

The GTA community is massive. Any players it loses to SR will be barely noticeable. Not to say I would miss some. The amount of d***heads who have flooded the GTA IV forums with their GTA IV hate I wish would stick to SR. Thankfully it's not as bad as it used to be with the odd moron every now, and then.

Backup is only a phone call away, though. The player calls home and gets in touch with Saints lieutenant Pierce, who says he’ll mobilize as many Saints as he can and head to Steelport. Around the same time, Shaundi has a great idea on where the Saints can score some weapons—the National Guard armory. After that mission, Pierce, Shaundi, and the player put their heads together and strategize. Pierce and Shaundi have a little background on the Syndicate, and it becomes clear that the criminal collective will have to be eliminated if the Saints have any hopes of gaining traction in town.

I'm glad Pierce is returning, hopefully we'll get to hear more of him signing along to his "drive by" music. I'm also loving the look of Steelport, it kinda reminds me of Gotham City in the Tim Burton Batman films.

You may have already seen Volition discuss the design philosophy behind the new city in Saints Row: The Third, but now's your chance to see the city of Steelport under construction. Meet Jonathan Schmidt, lead terrain artist for Saints Row: The Third. His job is to take the concepts and designs from the rest of the team and turn them into a concrete world for the player. Armed with Volition's new "CTG" world editor, Jonathan is able to quickly change the world on the fly and craft the ultimate open-world experience. Check out the video below to see what the city of Steelport has in store for players of Saints Row: The Third.

I hope the driving is actually fun in this one, thats my main complaint about the previous ones. Other than that they've been pretty enjoyable, haven't had me returning as much as GTA4 though.

I don't hate the driving, I'm really good at it, but it really isn't as fun as GTA IV's driving, I hope they can make it fun to drift and do stunts this time around.

This is off-topic (your post included, we should consentrate on SR3), but like I said before is too hard for some to understand that you can like SR series and at the same time think that GTA is the best. For me they serve different purposes.

Also I agree with you on that "regret buying" business. If I would have known the full content of GTA IV before I bought it: I would've paid at least 150 without hesitation. colgate.gif

Steelport is looking pretty good. It's already a better, darker, more realistic atmosphere than Saints Row 2; I'm so excited!

Yup, that's what I mean. I just wish GTA had that kind of connection between the characters and the media around them.

Those pictures show that the graphics are going to be a lot better than they were for SR2. I don't think it has such a cartoon effect - although we won't know 100% until there's some kind of real game play out or until we get the game ourselves. Looking at the pictures make me want to have the game now though!

Looks like the map from the video is the actual map, not just a sketch.

Game is looking suprisingly good(especially the characters), but the map is just poor. It looks like copy of Liberty City map (I know that both cities are modeled after NYC), and it seems quite small. One more thing, is there no airport in this city?

Judging by Stilwater, I'd assume the roads will be wide and big, therefore still making a decent size city. IV's LC had many little narrow roads which gave an illusion of having a large map.

The screenshots are looking really good and this is definitely going to be a first day release purchase just like SR2 was!

I think there is an airport on the northwest of that eastern island, otherwise that interchange would seem pointless there.

Graphics seem improved a bit over SR2 but those daytime shots have like a nasty yellow filter which isn't as bad as the pink filter SR2 had but still annoys me, it makes the game look dusty.

I like the map design and the simple colours, like Gta IV.

Saints row 2's map gave me a headache. Good decision

Graphics are improved. Not as drastically as i thought, but still good.

I don't quite get this game, now I've seen the shots. Half of them have a gritty, dirty, Max-Max-esque aurora about them, the other half make it look like an overly camp superhero beat-em-up.

I really, really hope they focus on the former, rather than the latter.

I totally agree. I want to play with the over-the-top gameplay, I just don't want to see super-hero-type looking clowns. The city is looking cool just some of the characters in it look ridiculous. Maybe I'm turning in to a boring old fogie but I'd love to see more (dare I say) realistic looking characters/street gangs etc but with crazy gameplay.

This pic put me off....

it looks more like a kids action cartoon snippet. Fair enough, I can see the humour in her swinging a giant dildo but in that context it just fails. Why is that funny? Is it supposed to be funny? If not, what is it supposed to be?

In San Andreas it was funny because it was set in a more 'realistic' environment where it looked totally outlandish that this homeboy was walking around Vegas harassing local tourists with a dildo.

Part of me thinks that they're trying too hard to be 'crazy' at the expense of them making a good game. There's no intelligence in their humour.

Rockstar seem to be from the school of Monty Python where things where absolutely crazy but their was a certain intelligence to pull it off, where Saints Row is more like: "lets put in a giant banana in the corner cause it's crazy!"

Maybe I just don't get it. I want to enjoy this game but some of the screens are a bit off-putting.

I just hope they improve the driving physics, they don't need to be more realistic like IV, but they need to make the vehicles actually feel like they have mass and momentum.

I just never liked how all the cars pretty much behaved the same way.

I think the developers have dropped the 'GTA competition' attitude and just stuck to their guns of doing stupid sh*t as an alternative, not as direct competition. so the next GTA could cater for the realism market and the fanboys, and SR3 can serve those who just play to shoot it out with cops and wrestler games; it's like they are trying to blur the line between what SR1 one (gangsta based game), SR2 became a midway point, and I can see SR3 being the all out stupid game, but hopefully it wont just be a case of 'lets put everything possible into one city' and more focused on the stupidity, thats the one thing they need to nail to make it a unique game.

Day one Pre-Order and Day one purchase!

A little worried that they made this new engine and are now throwing a bunch of sh*t (awesome sh*t mind) at it. Hopefully its way more optimized and no just out of nowhere the frame-rate goes to <10fps (talking consoles, i'm sure the PC version was much worse).

Did they say anything about character importing from 2? It would be stupid if they came up with another arbitrary reason for you needing to build your character up from scratch again. (You were partying on a boat and blew up. Again Uunless SR3 is your first SR game, then I guess its less stupid...)

Reading this months Game Informer has me hyped.

Judging by the extent of character customization, it shouldn't be too hard to re-create your character from Saints Row 2.
