Some of my experience at NYCC and the Sleeping Dogs panel. Chinese Vampires are not zombies, the vampires eye glow blue, and bounce and hover at times, this is about chinese classical folklore. jiang Shi are very different than a zombie and the elite vampire is huge as seen in the demo i observed and can only be beaten when face meter is filled, new achievements, new moves, new secondary content, and north point was described as cars just exploding, vampires and a wooden sword will be all around the town.

Dropping by this thread to ask a pretty generic question but.. should I buy this game?

I need something to hold me over roughly for the next month or so and I can't decide between this or Borderlands 2. confused.gif

Depends whether you want shooting or melee combat. If you're into kung fu, get SD, its seriously the best melee combat in any non-fighting game (Tekken, SF etc). However, if you're a boring schmuck, get Borderlands 2 where you can shoot Jason Voorhees in the face for a few hours.

This game won't last you a month, 2 weeks or so tops.

It's just too small, there's only 30 or so missions and after that there's nothing to do apart from start a new save, and after around 3 saves the story gets boring.

One save is about 15hrs worth of content side acivites etc included.

I haven't played Borderlands 2 but from what I've heard it's pretty good and will last you over a month.

Borderlands 2 is better than this mad.gif

On Topic: get Borderlands 2, it is so much better.

Borderlands 2 has better humor and it is up to 250 hours long with all 4 characters. wow.gif

Jesus, it's exactly the same crap Volition did. What will be in next add-on? "Hong Kong clones", "King Kong in Hong Kong" or something different? TC: SoLA wasn't very popular with its chinese mythology input, but here UFG used almost the same idea.

It'll just be another load if sh*tty cut content DLCs that only a small number of people actually give a f*ck about.

Nightmare on North Point is a reference to Nightmare on Elm Street.

From the honest GTA fans in here that played/finished Sleeping Dogs. What is your opinion on it? A friend of mine loves it and says Rockstar could definitely learn a thing or two from the game. A friend of that friend went even further and said..GTA IV is nothing in comparison to Sleeping Dogs. Sleeping Dogs is everything GTA IV should have been and more. Not sure yet when i'm going to buy it, but i definitely will. I am just curious on how you guys feel about the game.

Thanks smile.gif

^ I don't think you can really compare them. SD is a smaller game and it was made with a smaller budget. So you can't expect it to be as good as GTA4. Although, SD is a couple years more recent than GTA4, so logically, the AI, graphics and physics engines should be better than GTA4's.

But I like SD's shorter length. Everytime I play thru GTA4's single player I get to a point around the mafia missions where I lose interest and put it away. Then the next time I get it out I start from the start, but lose interest in the same spot in Alderney.

The melee combat in SD is great but the driving is a lot less fun than GTA4's.

Short answer: GTA's better, but sleeping dogs is worth playing.

I got about half way in this game months ago and I just stopped playing it and can't be bothered to finish it. It's not that I don't like it I just really can't be bothered to turn it on.

Thanks for the answer. Yeah i definitely agree about the driving, although i only see it in videos, it looks very simplistic compared to GTA IV. But i hear alot of good things about the variety and depth in missions. Would you agree with that?

And yeah, GTA IV does drag abit later on in terms of story missions. It could have done with alot more variety in the missions too, and i'm really expecting that of V.

I really liked the melee fighting in SD. Its probably some of the best I've seen in an open world game, this gen at least. The graphics were great too, not to mention I personally liked the driving. Overall, it was pretty good.

I watched the Zero Punctuation video....was kinda surprised what they said about the misssions that it simply follows GTA and does nothing new in that regard. It was exactly that aspect i was expecting to have improvements/changes, guess not then.

I think a lot of things come down to what type of player you are, and what play style you like in open world games. For instance, I had this discussion with the devlopers/Producer of the game at NYCC a couple weeks ago when meeting them. A great experience to get to talk with the producer about his game and give insight into it from a gamers perspective. I stated that for me the combat is truly the best part of the game for me, and it was no surpise to me because Mike Skupa formally of R* who helped build the combat for bully, was the lead person to get his hands dirty with the combat in SD. He did an amazing job and it shows in the combat in SD. The combat gives you alot of freedom of choice with the environmental kills, grappling and using things in the world.

As far as driving this is where it gets real tricky, because for me a player that likes a turn on the dime driving I love the driving and speed in SD. This is a personal choice of the player so for me thats where it stands. If you like the arcadey type you will like it, if you prefer the GTAIV driving maybe not so much.

The stories of both are very different, both games have great stories, this story is much shorter than GTA, but in the end was a great story and well written with some top notch actors have both have done. For their first rodeo UFG, SD brings a lot of nice things from a developer only 5 years old, so the more the merrier i say.

Variety and depth of missions?

Eh, I dunno. Ultimately, missions in any game involve some kind of shooting/fighting/driving skill-challenge. There's nothing wrong with that.

When I was playing SD, I never found myself thinking, "Ah this is just like GTA".

SD did try to have 'mental' challenges of a sort through - combination locks and triangulation thingys, but once you'd done it once or twice, they were always the same.

[in that way, I don't remember many people complimenting LA Noire for having maps in its mental challenges.]

What did have depth was the story. They did well to capture some of the central parts of east asian culture, like family, honour.

Also, I'm not really knocking the driving. It was okay. I wish more game companies would do open world games to keep me occupied until V comes out.

I thought the driving was OK.

Anyway yeah I've learned my lesson about backing a game up in arguments and being really hyped for it.

The driving isn't actually fun.

Cars feel really slow, there's no sense of ACTUAL speed, as going at a supercars highest speed doesn't actually feel dangerous like it does in games like Burnout Paradise and GTA IV.

The vehicle sound effects suck *cough*unlimited gears*cough*

You can't even turn slightly, you can only turn halfway of your car's turning circle, or not at all.

There's no car customization which was disappointing as f*ck after seeing cars like the Neo V and the Wangan GSX.

I really expected this game to last me until AT LEAST 2013, like MANY other games do, but it lasted me about a week. I did 3 or 4 complete saves in a week, until it got boring and repetitive.

The community site is god-awful aswell. Don't get me started on that.

Since you got banned from the forums for being childish like always, and is what happens when your parents let you play adult games at An early age for some. You should be proud of all your negative issues you have so early in life, I hope and wish you well in your endevours in life, but being lazy wont make you successful in life, hard work has proved me successful.

The forums are the best i have been apart of at SD, people like you, negative people in the world make me even happier and cherrish a great life i have.

The racing in SD top notch smile.gif To each there own though. Enjoy your day.

Criticising a game =/= Being childish

The racing is FAR from top notch, friend.

Let's have a list of things wrong with the racing.

1. You can't use a badass sports car with an epic paintjob, like in MCLA.

2. The AI is awful, they are easily overtaken on the first corner. No challenge, whatsoever.

3. The tracks are too short (each race lasts just over a minute)

4. The damage model is way too sensitive. Driving through a roadblock barrier made of cheap plastic ruins the front of your car.

5. The damage model is way too light in proper crashes that would grant your car being disabled.

6. The sound effects for the vehicles are terrible. Unlimited gears, lol.

7. There's hardly any variety in the cars during a race. There's only 1-2 unique cars during a race.

8. There's no sense of speed.

9. There's no nitrous.

10. The race start areas were cheaply made. There's no epic loud music with people dancing and people making bets and showing off their cars like in the movies. (The game supposedly takes alot of influence from movies)

11. During races, there's hardly any traffic.

12. The police never intercept street races.

13. You can't do pink slips.

14. You can't bet money.

15. During the 3 2 1 countdown, there's a huge FPS drop (It's not just me because there is also the FPS drop in videos)

16. The paintjobs they DID put in the game, you can't even use while racing.

17. There's hardly in races in the first place.

18. The devs try to leech off of street racing with sh*tty DLC.

19. Boat races were promised for the original game, but they were cut and sold as DLC.

20. There's no muscle cars.

20 things wrong with the racing.
