I wonder if I would get it. I have an SDF account, but it's permanently banned.

I have one too, but i only replied once in that stupid thread where they were attacking GTA fans, i didn't misbehave or anything so i'm sure i didn't get banned, i won't be buying any DLCs though, i'm waiting for the complete edition.

Edit: Um, why did they ban you?

The sales of Sleeping Dogs seems not to be good, eh? Well, 0.75 million copies in 5 weeks isn't really groundbreaking: http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=Sleeping+Dogs

Despite statistics having been invented to fool people, even if these numbers are correct, how you know it's bad?

Maybe SquareEnix invested a little and these "low" sales already twice the investment since the game was pretty much done when it got dropped back in the day.

I haven't seen much advertising, only online which is pretty much free of charge.

Also, let's assume this game's sales are worse, the game itself received solid and good critics since it is solid and entertaining. You sure can tell it feels unfinished in many ways but you can't ignore the fact that it is definitely fun to play.

Everyone is also screaming that MP 3 is a sales flop, well, even if it is, the game itself is the best 3rd person shooter out there.

I bet GTA V will beat the sh*t out of both, MP 3 and Sleeping Dogs, but the latter came up with some unique things and surely deserves credit. Don't know if you played it, but during the wait for GTA V I can only recommend this game.

Just plat'd it. Great game but without at least a little bit of multiplayer I don;t know when I'll be back in hongkong. I have to admit I really am a trophy hoor, and it's strange that sleeping dogs didn't do what LAN and Mafia 2 did -- make some of the trophies as part of the DLC. I would at least think twice about buying them ten, but as it it, 20 cop missions or whatever -- I'd rather put the money towards a new game.

Got this today, was expecting the car handling to be retarded but it blew me away, especially the motorbike handling! Nick looks like he has down syndrome though lol

There's no Nick in Sleeping Dogs.. confused.gif

Lol really? Shows how much attention I paid! Although the protag sort of looks like him

Even though every single person in the game has called him "Wei" at one point. Don't you even watch cutscenes? confused.gif

I'm so out of it sometimes. Plus I couldn't really hear the audio because I had a friend over, but I'm going to restart and pay attention!

No, Nick was the protagonist of True Crime: Streets of LA, who was also of Asian descent.

Talking about previous True Crimes, do you know that at least two characters in TC:NYC had family name Shen (Leeland Shen and his step sister Vivian). I wonder if they somehow connected to the Wei?

Just like Jack Black and Rebecca Black are related, yeah?

Also, there's someone called Fang Shen in Sleeping Dogs, the drug dealer who works for Popstar. And it makes perfect sense that Wei would have his family member drug dealer arrested, doesn't it?

Sleeping Dogs is not the same as True Crime. Get it now and stop being stupid. It was a new IP that Activision decided to rename into a True Crime game. After it was canceled by Activision, Square Enix picked it up. But because they don't have the rights to True Crime IP they had to rename it again.

Stop acting like smart-asses, because my question was not better nor worse than any other asked on this forums. I don't know who came up with Wei family name (UFG or Activision), but he had it during the time when game was called TC:HK. He may be connected as some form of reference then.

But since I didn't play the game and was just curious, simple answer that would be more than satysfying is "no".

You should at least try it out. It's a neat GTA alternative.

The sales are bad. 750 000 copies of this game + maybe 250 000 copies on steam are maybe 1 million copies that were sold. Most likely less. Here are some examples how the development costs arise:

- managers, administrators, etc.

- voice actors, pedestrian voices

- Artist, animators, designers

- testers, localization testers

- programmers, engineers

- coordinators

- project lead

- marketing

- dialogue

- research

- Music

& etc. etc.

Well, less than 1 million sold copies in more than a month is everything but not good, at all for an AAA-title which costs millions of dollars in the development. And no I don't have bought the game. I won't buy it until a complete edition will be released. I don't buy a game to pay a lot more money for numerous DLCs.

well most of the DLCs are useless and some even spoils the whole game. im pretty sure steam will give an option to upgrade to GOTY edition too.

also the game was just 50% off a few days ago

You are summing up people where you don't have exact numbers...why don't you even add up more? You throw in categorized jobs and underline how bad the sales were...hell, why do you even bother?

mercie_blink.gif

Now even if the sales numbers are correct, what 750,000 units...multiply them with what..., here in the EU it costs 60 euros. Now that would be 45.000.000 euros.

People can be happy this game did not completely vanish. Now it's out there and like I said, a solid and entertaining title with lots of good ideas and a neat GTA alternative.

And a sh*tload of cut content.

Normally for me, games last pretty long. But this only lasted me 2 weeks and now I don't find it very enjoyable. And I'm back playing GTA IV which I've been playing since 2008....

I'd probably still be playing it if they didn't cut the content and if they didn't have such a sh*tty community.

SD makes me hyped for GTA V even more, and for Square Enix, it's not in a good way.

Seeing as GTA V most likely won't have cut content and the community isn't dead like SDs is.

The sale numbers are definitely correct. These numbers are from vgchartz which is a legit website. The website already updated it from 0.75 million copies to 0.96 million copies which is still pretty weak. Only the digital sales aren't considered but they don't change all too much. I just think that the sales of Sleeping Dogs aren't good. The fact that it's a AAA-title, so development cost millions of dollars, makes it even worse. You say the gme costs 60€, right? Okay. Do you have ever thought about that the retailer gets a part of the money? Do you have ever thought about that all these things I have summarized above costs money as well? Again:

- managers, administrators, etc.

- voice actors, pedestrian voices

- Artist, animators, designers

- testers, localization testers

- programmers, engineers

- coordinators

- project lead

- marketing

- dialogue

- research

- Music

& etc. etc.

All ^these things^ costs money. Now with the bad sales do you think that Square enix make any profit with this game?

Finn4life has written this to give us an idea how much money all this brings:

Developer - $15

Publisher - $20

Licensing - $10

Retailer - $12

Manufacturing and Distribution - $3

That'd be about $35 that Square Enix earns per copy which would be about 35 million dollar real profit. Do you think that this is ground-braking much money in relation to the million of dollars that the development cost? I don't think so.

I don't say that the game is bad or anything like this. I'll most likely buy it when there is a Complete Edition. I don't want to pay so much money for this game because of the sh*tloads of DLCs. Why should I support a company that cut out content just to milk the sh*t out of the game? Well, GTA V will be probably released before the Sleeping Dogs Complete Edition so it'll take me a loooong time until I'll buy Sleeping Dogs if at all. tounge.gif

I somehow don't really see your point. All these jobs you list, they don't receive millions of dollars. The loss of money must lay with Activision or whoever dropped the True Crime.

I can't see how Square Enix made a loss with Sleeping Dogs. They could have surely made more money from it. Still it's a title which already sold quite good for a game which they didn't have to put much work into.

Sales are weak compared to blockbuster titles like GTA 4 or whatever established franchise.

Games like Demon's and Dark Souls, both high end quality titles don't do too well on the sales side too, if you compare them to blockbusters, yet the production costs must be very high as you can see the detail in anything in these games. Still the producers keep the franchise coming saying they sold well (with only about a million copies).

However, I don't see how a million copies are bad if you look at the circumstances of the production. If you think they're bad, go ahead but what is your point? Please explain.

Em, okay. Not what I was expecting from "campaign" DLC... dontgetit.gif

Yeah, this game is dead, man.

Nobody gives a sh*t about it anymore because they did the same sh*t Volition did with SR:TT.

Why won't people ever f*cking learn to release games properly?

No cut content, regular community updates, a proper forum, etc.

Yet another game that could have been successful if the developers and publishers weren't assholes.
