I also completed all the favors and races and I was expecting an achievement to pop up. Nope, apparently I have two events left. Two f*cking events in which I didn't even know existed and it doesn't even show up on the map. Anyone got a list of events to link me to?

Maybe you still need some of the random events for 100% completion:

I played the demo (PS3) and it was mind blowing!!! I definitely have to buy it (when I have the money, of course xD)

I can't remember the last time I made an effort to 100% a game. In fact, the only game I've 100%-ed was Red Dead Redemption. Now in Sleeping Dogs, I'm aiming to get everything done.

After spending countless hours searching for all those lockboxes, health shrines and cameras, I've finally got every collectible unlocked. Goddamn those drug busts in the sewers are sure tough as hell, there's one thing on getting that location, it's another to actually ease through the thugs.

I still enjoyed this game than any other free-roaming games out there including the GTA series. It feels so old-school and fresh at the same time.

Countless hours spent searching for collectibles? I think it's safe to say that your quest for 100% completion doesn't involve dating any of the girlfriends then yeah?

I'll agree with you though those busts in the sewers were a pain in the ass.. two of the guys kept flanking me while I was shooting the rest. They were pretty fun though.

Y'know I've been playing this for a few days and I actually thought of you -- because you'd really like it. It's got a real story to it. THe story's way better than max payne 3.

And it's told well too. THe cut-scenes aren't that long, but there's a lot going on in them.

Does anyone have the SWAT dlc preorder package? And the GSP package? How are they?

I know what you get with these, but what is different ingame?

Do you get police XP? Is this only a driving mission?

The GSP package is a load of GSP branded clothes that give you power ups. Which I haven't worn yet...

The SWAT preorder package is a mission involving you shooting out of a fancy car, with a fancy gun, in a fancy outfit. Guy in car drives set route, you defend car by shooting out the window... However, the car, gun, and outfit are unavailable in free roam...

Thanks for the info. cool.gif

Well, the game itself certainly deserves a sequel, at least more mission based dlcs. One particular thing Sleeping Dogs is good at: the importance of money.

You earn quite a lot but also got to spend it. Even though there aren't hookers, pool, bowling, etc.. Sometimes I'm quite broke, just bought a couple of clothes, vehicles and home decoration, or lost at a cockfight. Again, out to gain some paper.

I earlier mentioned the garage, which is a bit odd, meaning you can't store stolen cars, but comapring the garage to GTA IV or even previous GTAs, I prefer the Sleeping Dogs system.

You actually own cars which won't disappear. I had beautiful vehicles in my parking spaces in GTA IV but close to never drove them cuz I knew they will disappear indefinitely if I move too far away from them. And this "FAR" actually isn't too far.

Yeah the car storage system in this game is a lot more realistic since there is no way you would store stolen cars in your garage IRL unless you were an idiot. The fact that all of your cars are stored in every parking garage in the city though kind of takes that realism away again though, that's where GTA is better because although at times it may be inconvient it's good that you can store certain cars in certain areas so if you want to drive your Infernus for example you would go to your penthouse suite in Algonquin to get it.

A lot of these newer open world games post 2007 (GTA, Mafia, Sleeping Dogs etc.) take a lot of features from the game Scarface: The World is Yours which when it comes to vehicles had the best system. You could steal cars but in order to store them in your garage you had to buy them. They were only ever stored in Tony's Mansion but you could get a valet to bring you any car in your garage at any given time (not just one pre-selected vehicle like in Sleeping Dogs).

Found a reproducible bug on the pc with the "Cheaters Never Prosper Pt. 2" mission.

After you've smashed up the car just grab the owner and bust his head on the windshield. That makes you both go up in the air -really high- and when falling down the owner disappears and Wei drops to his death. It worked 2 out of 3 times. cool.gif

Can't believe this has only sold 500,000 copies.  nervous.gif

GTAvanja posted on page 88 it sold 1.5 million times but I guess VGChartz numbers are more realistic. Shame though, this game deserves more sales.

Kind of. Apparently the dialogue differs on dates. I was going to try and find videos to see the difference, but haven't yet. Avoiding spoilers.

I'm only 20% thru it, but as I said I can see the story is really good. Wei Shen has to split his loyalties between the cops and the triad. As a player it gives you plenty to think about.

I just did one mission for the triad crew where the main guy, Winston gets married and eventhough they're just small time thugs I really felt for winston and his wife when they bit it and I really liked the bit at the start where Wei talks to Winston's mum. I know it's HK, but I've met heaps of old korean mum's who are just like that.

sleeping dogs can be short. it's not as long as fallout or skyrim. oh boy and you still got time playing that role here so, there's plenty of time for sleeping dogs. wink.gif

I have a sh*tty internet connection, so I mostly purchase disc versions of games, instead of getting them directly on Steam. So tell me, why must I suffer this:

There's a f*cking reason I bought it on a disc. Is there any viable reason why they would only put 3½ gigs of data on the disc, and let you download the rest? whatsthat.gif

Nah I really think it sold more. I had to go to three different towns to find a single copy of Sleeping Dogs. Every shop I went was responded with "Sorry, out of stock." Had to travel two towns away from my place to find it. It was at some unknown comic book store. I swear to god the heaven's light was shining down upon it and angels were singing in the background when I came upon the copy.

Finally 100% the game. Threw a drunk guy onto oncoming traffic and boom, 100 percented baby!

Sleeping dogs vs Gta IV - Your opinions?

I still prefer GTA IV, although they have some big differences.

Sleeping Dogs has more action combats, with more Kung Fu moves and less gun fights, but I still prefer the deepness of the IV story.

By the way, there are some nice comparisons between SD and GTA and between SD, GTAIV, SR3, Just Cause 2 and Mafia 2.

I've also got the retail version and didn't like the extra downloads too. Square Enix did the release as cheap as possible. Hardly no real world marketing and obviously no 2nd DVD in the box. Although the 3GB HD texture pack is optional, which is a good thing since people with a low spec computer can't use them anyway.

And I just found out you can throw a tire-iron or knife and instantly kill an enemy with it. To bad that later on there are hardly any enemies left confused.gif

Sleeping dogs vs Gta IV - Your opinions?

Both epic games in their own ways. I don't have to recapitulate GTA IV now. It still has some features which are missing in Sleeping Dogs and vice versa.

Sleeping Dogs keeps it short, but sweet. At times it is like an arcade game, especially the racing and driving. It differs a lot from GTA (IV). Then again, there are small things, details, which add this certain degree of realism to the open world experience.

Like washing the blood of your skin and clothes, taking a piss (even though it has no effect).

temporary health and power upgrades when eating/drinking/training.

The customization in clothes beats the sh*t out of GTA IV, that's for sure.

I can see players wanting GTA games to contain massive gunfights. Me myself like missions like "Three Leaf Clover". But in Sleeping dogs I really appreaciate the option to only carry one pistol with 3 magazines. Bigger guns can't be hidden in your tracksuit like in GTA IV. People might find this being a limitation to fun, well, it isn't in Sleeping Dogs. Also in GTA IV many things become obsolete after a while. Like melee fights. Or the stun punch. This very punch had its own mission along with the car wash and both things became obsolete after this very mission. Things that get invented in Sleeping Dogs appear the whole time, tracing phones, plating bugs, breaking locks, disarming people and melee combat all the time.

Having these two substories with Ilyena Faustin and Cherise Glover, there were fist fights, but that's it.

GTA IV is saturated with firearms. Sleeping Dogs reduces it to some basic weapons, pistols, smgs, shotguns and rifles.

Even though cop chases have also an arcadish appeal to it, reminding me on the very first GTA, it certainly has this degree of realism since you can't shake them THAT easy if your wanted level is too high. If you go all out trying to shoot your way trhu them cops it'll be your death for sure. In GTA IV the six star noose teams didn't have a chance, even when I was only equipped with a Glock and using no auto aim.

Another arcadish aspect to Sleeping Dogs are the car chases and gunfights while driving...the crashes are epic. Shooting the enemy's car's wheels leading into a fatal crash. In GTA IV at times you could shoot ALL wheels of the pursuer and they still were stuck at your back.

The plot is a very good one, the characters are nice. In both games. All in all, GTA IV is epic in its own way, so is Sleeping Dogs, in a different way. GTA IV surely beats the sh*t out of SD multplayer wise.

As for the gameplay, Sleeping Dogs put GTA IV to rest, final nail in the coffin for me.

Don't get me wrong, IV is my favourite GTA, but I've completed it over and over the last 4 years, platinized two times and really took my time with everything. About time for GTA V. And during the wait, Sleeping Dogs came in and sweetened it.

Very well said, Daigo. I mean, err, Junkpile.

Seriously, it does beat GTA IV in my opinion. It doesn't have the biggest map, or the best graphics, or the best driving. But it's story, characters, various little activities and attention to detail make it a more polished well made game with heart. IV, while it did take the series in a new interesting direction, got really boring with the same missions over and over. Not to mention the constant ringing of pointless activities. And annoying physics engine. And sh*tty cover system.

Actually this pretty much sums up IV in a nutshell.

Gotta give that compliment back to you. Maybe it's because I expected the game (SD) to be much worse. To me it's a surprise hit out of the blue. [email protected] the video. lol.gif

Well said Junkpile. I agree with most of your points.

And well, according to me, the story, the MC, customization and the "hand - hand" combat beat the living f*ck out of GTA IV.

Sleeping dogs vs Gta IV - Your opinions?

Only played 6-7 hours but I think they're equally good. I like the story, characters and fighting a lot more in Sleeping Dogs. Driving is better in IV and that is an important part of the game.

I hope for a Sleeping Dogs 2 in a bigger city, it's a little small this version of Hong Kong. SD is better than Just Cause 2 and much better than Saints Row 1-3.

Doesn't really mean it sold a lot though. Just means the retailers sold more than they expected, hence not having enough copies.

It's bumped up to 640,000 copies now, so at least people are continuing to buy it. tounge.gif
