vertical limit
True Crime: Hong Kong is a canceled video game which was in development by United Front Games and was to be published by Activision. Just f*cking great, this made my hell.
Long Haired Freaky Guy
What a waste. So just because Black ops is the fastest selling video game they think they can cancel games at will. I hope the next Call of duty falls on its face. Sick of the fuss of that franchise anyway. Is that the real reason they dropped these titles, or is there something else behind it? I haven't read much into it so am unsure, but it seems weird for a company to drop what could prove to be a big-selling game just because another series is doing so well. I've got MW2, and from the videos/screens of BO MP, it seems the same exact thing to me, just different maps.
TommyMufc-Champs
So has this been cancelled? Yes, it has according to IGN. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/114/1148687p1.html Well that sucks I was looking forward to Hong Kong.

860
"Contrary to reports although Activision is canceling their in-development game with United Front, True Crime: Hong Kong, they’re not closing down the developers doors… simply because they don’t own them." So they haven't canceled the game, they've canceled their publishing contract with United Front Games? In that case they would need a new contract and since the game is so finished I don't think that would be a problem.

JOSEPH X
Some insight into Activision's thinking: Open world actioner True Crime: Hong Kong was cancelled because it just wasn't up to scratch, according to publisher Activision. Following on from the announcement earlier today that the United Front-developed title had been scrapped, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg explained that the publisher didn't believe it could compete in a crowded marketplace. "Even our most optimistic internal projections show that continued investment was not going to lead to a title at, or near, the top of the competitive open world genre," he said. "In an industry where only the best games in each category are flourishing, to be blunt, it just wasn't going to be good enough." "The day I arrived at the company I said that I believed the best way to achieve commercial success was to provide gamers with highest possible creative quality," he added. "The decision to stop production on True Crime is based solely on that belief." "These are tough decisions but we believe they are the right decision being made for the right reasons and they reflect our ongoing commitment to delivering the games that gamers want to play." The future of Vancouver-based studio United Front Games, the same studio responsible for PlayStation 3/PSP effort ModNation Raceers, is unclear at present, though job losses would seem inevitable. True Crime: Hong Kong was to be the first entry in Activision's open world action franchise since the dreary New York City iteration flopped back in 2005. Eurogamer went hands-on with the title in June last year, and came away unimpressed. "It's possible that the special ingredients are still secret at this stage, and, to be honest, open-world games are notoriously hard to demo effectively, but as the game nears release, True Crime is looking unambitious at best, and possibly irrelevant," wrote Christian Donlan. "Not a bad game, necessarily, but one you might have played too many times before." http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-02-...not-good-enough
Sunrise Driver
Following that stupid logic the first game they need to cancel is their stupid CoD because the game sucks and because FPS market is overcrowded with much much better titles. Blackadder. It appears not. And all i heard from that article was "We've estimated that True Crime will not give us enough money, i want a new house, so it's not worth all the publicity etc because we'll only make a couple of million on it." With the lack of GTA on the market, NOW is the time to release open world games! And TCHK actually looked good! It was the only one i've seen that could even begin to fill the gap. "The day I arrived at the company I said that I believed the best way to achieve commercial success was to provide gamers with highest possible creative quality," he added. "The decision to stop production on True Crime is based solely on that belief." and what is so creative about call of duty? "These are tough decisions but we believe they are the right decision being made for the right reasons and they reflect our ongoing commitment to delivering the games that gamers want to play." In other words, for generic FPS for casual players or the "hardcore" 12 year olds that spray and pray right? ryuclan
Wow I was looking forward to this game. I didn't like the first true crime but the second was decent. I was definitely willing to give this game a try. This sucks balls.
Scharkey
Maybe L.A. Noire and Red Dead Redemption's standard for open world games scared them off? Personally, I think it was a bit foolish to cancel a game that had already so much development put into it. The gameplay didn't really seem to enticing but the atmosphere and story would of probably made up for it.

So, what about Call of Duty? HAHA, that's exactly what I thought when I read that! Yeah Black Ops is the most innovative and unqie game title I've ever played, it is not like any other title I've played, especially MW2.
Jabalous
"Not a bad game, necessarily, but one you might have played too many times before." So, what he's saying is that Call of Duty isn't kind of a game that gamers have played too many time before. He must review his claim, because anyone with clear eyes on this generation will see that it's filled with mindless, uncreative FPS games that do nothing rather than keeping the medium at a lower level. I kept True Crime on my radar, but now I hope another publisher comes out and buys its rights from Activision.

TUBBSthezombie does a quick Wikipedia search... Turns out Activision now has four games slated for release: * NASCAR The Game: 2011 (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) * Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, Windows) * Transformers: Dark of the Moon (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS, DS) * Spyro's Kingdom (Wii, DS, PS3, Xbox 360, PC) Not exatly a star studded line up... looks like the Cleveland Cavaliers from last year. 1 blockbuster with a few of ants around it. LittleBlueTroll
That is such bolloks cancelling this title, i was really looking forward to playing it aswell! Seems so weird that they would cancel the whole project that quickly! If there pinning all there hopes and dreams of keeping the company afloat by mainly/only dealing in Call of duty, then they are complete idiots. I actually liked the first True Crime. And the second i'd say was "good" Ok, they're not as good as GTA, but i found them good games, at least at the time... @TUBBSthezombie are you serious? THAT'S their lineup?! If COD goes t*ts up, how would they survive? I was gonna get MW3, but after this? F*ck that, i'll get it preowned, none of my moneys going in their pockets after this lol The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Another left turn yay! Call Of Duty is just pure sh*t. Transformers is clearly just a quicly made sideproduct to the next movie, nothing special. But hey Spyro's been a good game.. True Crime L.A. was alright back in the day...even though it sucked when it turned out with zombies, dragons and magically disappearing mentors...etc, etc. TRUE CRIME HONG KONG looked like the perfect mixture between YAKUZA and GTA...now it's cancelled...shame...
