Where do you think GTA V (or whatever it happens to be called) will be set? Vote and discuss here.

The last poll was created in 2008, shortly after GTA IV was released, so opinions are likely to have changed since then (hence the new topic). Predictions made between July 2008 and January 2011 can be found here.

If you want to start a serious, well-thought-out topic discussing, say, the pros and cons of a particular location, that's fine. Just keep all general chit-chat and such in here.

Blast from the past: predicting IV's location.

For first post I'll guess London.

I would like to see Detroit or Chicago. I think one of them would make an interesting location. I'm surprised Bogota Isn't on the poll since that has been hinted at by Deepthroat but the problem with Bogota Is the Language barrier.

sweet, a freshened Location topic smile.gif

I'd love to have multiple cities where the inter-city travel is exclusively by air. Or if it were toned down some like SA where you could drive long distances between the places.

But realistically, I'm expecting Vice City.

Not that my opinion matters(Noire does it ever biggrin.giftounge.gif )But i voted for Detroit or chicago. Those 2 gritty cities imho, fit the gta genre. But really i dont think mine or anyones opinion on the setting matters at this point. As Im fairly confident devolpement & setting has already been picked. Atleast I hope so, as it is nearing 3 years since gtaIV was released. Imho the first stages of devolpement for the next gta was started 6 months before IV was released.(just an assumption)

I think Vice is the most likely. Though i pray its not 80s again - modern times please!

SA is also possible. London i don't think will be done again.

I also would like to see Las Venturas tounge.gif

Yeah please, no more 80's. If we can't move past VC being in the 80's, why not just go back to Renderware, resurrect the III era, and blend Tommy and Vic into Tommy Vance?

Yep... We need to keep in modern times because of all the cool stuff like internet, phones, and all the other cool features we wouldn't be able to do in the 80s!

Well, there's no point of R* creating all of this new ingame technology with cellphones, internet, etc.; only to completely ignore your effort and get rid of it in the next game.

I never thought of it like that, but I guess if they do choose to go back in time then they will find a way around this and add some other forms of communicating with friends.

Yeah, I know, which is why we need to keep modern times. But then again there could still be these kind of phones... lol! And the overall gameplay of GTA wouldn't really be different if we couldn't use the internet or phone, or some other modern device, because the overall concept of GTA is crime, imo. Besides, there could always be replacement activities that seem more suited to a location from 1980s or 90s. Although I couldn't name any off the top of my head.. I'm sure Rockstar could.

Voted London - will outline reasons in a bit.

Concerning the seventies and eighties and technology, I believe the need for it can be catered for in such settings with as little disruption as possible. Car Phones were the mobile phone of the late seventies and eighties - such an inclusion would easily make up for the need for a cell phone, you would just have to own a vehicle with one included to call and be called. Including car modification with this option would be a lovely touch. There would be nothing stopping the previous system in IV being used with the address book being prompted at the push of a button whilst driving.

As for the internet, personally I'm indifferent. The only sites I valued were the LCPD database and the Liberty Tree. The Police Database could easily be included as a big database computer stored at Police Headquarters and the news could make its feature through radio transmissions and broadcasts on in-game television, which would infact take the concept one step further as the news would then be animated.

I wouldn't see this as disregarding, simply modifying and accommodating to the times.

Now London, I believe, could be a successful game whether it be set in the past or the present. I have well-known reasons for wanting the eighties but rockstar have a fantastic opportunity with the Olympic Games coming up in 2012. And the fact that with London (and the surrounding area), you could also compile a map to rival that of San Andreas with the inclusion of beach, city, countryside and landmarks makes it a great candidate - one that should not be ignored.

With both the past and present in Britain, the story could accommodate both the violence that is at the heart of GTA and the tale of rise that so many of us are longing to see. That both could be done to the backdrop of recession gives them not only the ability to hit home, but an excellent core plot point. Watch The Boys From The Blackstuff, some of it is told with absolutely haunting disparity, and it really shows what recession ravaged Britain - especially in the early eighties - was like.

But on the flip side of the coin, you had the gangsters morphing into businessmen, using their illicitly gained wealth to fund legitimate ventures. Think The Long Good Friday - a gangster gone legit, and his world - his big deal with New Jersey mobsters - is torn apart by certain aspects of his business, drawing him back to his old, criminal ways for the worst Good Friday weekend he'll ever have. I'll leave a video, just to try and vocalise such the idea. Listen to the main character's speech, the setting, doesn't it ring out perfect for GTA, whether it be applied to past or present?

"No other city in the world has got right in it’s centre, such an opportunity for profitable progress." - Take heed, Rockstar!

I think that the next Grand Theft Auto game will be set in Miami, ie; Vice City. Though I would like to see it set somewhere other then the three areas that have been covered by the Grand Theft Auto series (Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas) just for something different.

I think that it should be in San Andreas bcuz theres alot of space to play in theres a beach, a country side, a "place to gamble", and a city, and there was also alot of things to do in San Andreas, and GTA San Andreas only had 1 story line, all the other games had muliple stories like Liberty city, and vice city. anuj_cop.gifpanic.gif

Finn 7 five 11

Given all the references to vice city,(could be coincidence) i would have to say vice city, it makes sense as well, LC Vice SA, and to do it again would be great, those 3 cities have had great success, i don't see the point of picking a new city when previous successes have been had.

Why does the poll have seperated options for uk and europe? uk is in europe......

No, it's not. I voted London, by the way.

Actually the UK is part of Europe, its a member state of the E.U. Us Brits just like to pretend otherwise wink.gif

Anyway on topic, I voted for London, more out of hope rather than expectancy.
