gamervivek Posted January 19, 2011 Share Posted January 19, 2011 Hi guys, I am looking for a way to reduce the fps hit by shadows. It doesn't matter what quality they are, it always decreases the performance about the same 5-10fps and trying to play the game below 20fps for most parts is problematic. I am on patch 1.3, running bone's latest settings and my sys spec is ati 4850 with a 3.1Ghz E2140. When it rains or during nights, the fps is over 30 for most of the time, just a hint of shadows makes the game unplayable(sub-20) if I keep the textures at high. The install is pretty old, but I have cut down the services to minimum. I wish I could reinstall the OS, but there are many things that are associated with it and I can't do that. Searched around on the net and it seems the shadows thing is a common problem Anyway, it seems too greedy of me to get even more fps when playing at 2048x1536 with all settings at high except textures and those system specs. Followed your advice, reinstalled the game with the 1.0.4.0 and the benchmark result came about the same as the 1.0.3.0 patch(so something was screwy with the previous installation). Finally, loaded up bone's settings and all as before, and apparently the game runs much smoother than the 1.0.3 patch. The fps maximas are somewhat lower than 1.0.3.0 patch, but the minimas are very infrequent so that I am playing at 20fps constant when zooming through the city in a car at high speed during day time. And this before I removed the RGSC. So now I not only have put textures on high, but reflections on very high. the greed never stops... thanks for this, and your other instructive posts in this forum.
