Save game trouble (offline to online)

Recommended Posts

I've already searched the forum for this problem and tried following uncle ho's advice in this thread http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=383555

but i've come across a problem.

I created my first GFWL account offline when I started playing Batman: Arkham Asylum. When I got GTA IV from Steam, I was automatically signed onto this same account (offline, remember) and I didn't think anything of it.

Now my friend wants me to play multiplayer with him, so I create an online account and try to transfer my saves. I found uncle ho's post and was following his advice until steps 2-5, when he says I have to find the offline account info in the xlive directory. Problem is, the folder doesn't exist - I can't find it anywhere. And to make things worse, I can't sign in into that old profile - it's gone!

My save games are still in the directory untouched, but of course transfering them just gives the "load failed, check your hard drive" error.

When I tried to sign in to the online account that I created, I had to update GFWL or some nonsense and I fear perhaps the directory was cleared?

I tried to play batman with that old offline account but it was also gone (i didn't even start playing the game yet, however, so that's not a big loss).

I'll admit that arkham asylum was a pirated copy, but I can't for the life of me figure out where the offline account data disappeared to...

any help is greatly appreciated, I haven't finished the game yet, but I've got 24 hours in that I really don't wanna repeat playing from scratch confused.gif

edit: oh and i've looked into xlive wrapper but i don't want to install it without confirmation that it works on the latest patch (having to delete the files every time i want to play multiplayer will be annoying, but if that's my last option, i have no choice, i suppose...)

There's no hectic installation procedure for the Xliveless. Just copy the xlive.dll file to your GTA IV folder ans your savegames will work fine. If you wish to go online, just delete the xlive.dll file and you're good to go.

Hmmm now I'm encountering another problem when trying to run the game with xlive wrapper.

I'm using the steam version of GTAIV, by the way. I place the .dll file into .../steamapps/common/grand theft auto iv/gtaiv, but when i try to start the game, it silently crashes after i sign into social club (even when i don't, it crashes).
