Blackscreen + mouse issues, compatibility mode

Recommended Posts

I been having the dreaded mouse and blackscreen issues, but on windows XP service pack 3.

Compatibility mode for windows 98 does not work. Screen turned black after the nvidea logo and I can't read the generated dialogue box. Hovered over it with the mouse and it relates to C++ runtime library.

OS: Windows XP SP3

Geforce GTX 460 SE 1gb

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6850 3ghz

RAM: 4gb

Thanks.

some thing's to answer first:

If you don't have the disc to play with, how are you playing the game. The game won't work correctly with a 'No-CD Crack'

And it's against the rules to aid with a cracked game setup.

And... before people here begin investing a lot of time trying to fix a possible NO-FIX situation:...

so ... How are you playing:

1. With the Original DVD in the Drive?

2. OR are you Using a 'backup' disc?

3. Are you Using a No-CD crack?

4. OR a Downloaded game from Direct2Drive, or SteamPower.com

5. If none of the above, where did you get your game? Please specify.

Try playing the game in W98/XP mode, with Administrative Privileges.

Do you have IE7/8 or IE9?

Try:

Go into your \GTA San Andreas\movies\ directory and rename or delete the two files there. If it still crashes then it might not be the movies causing it.

I been playing the game for a while MAK, got to San Fierro, before I figured I shouldn't put up with the frequent crashing.

I tried putting it into W98 mode that results in a forementioned crash. Only one user on this computer, with me as administrator.

I have internet explorer 8... does that prompt 'Upgrade IE'?

Did you try deleting the GTA_SA.set file?

It contains game play data aquired during game play and is created at the end of each game play session.

If a major change to OS (Updates) was made that might interfer with previous settings deleteing it may fix the problem.

What do you mean by "dreaded mouse" problem?

Do you have any Mods installed or have you attempted to install any mods?

Are all your saved games yours?

Some problems have been reported when using IE9. Since you have IE8 that should be it.

The next thing to do is uninstall and reinstall because of corrupt files:

I tried deleting the .set file, but does nothing. The mouse issue eventually comes back. I called it the 'dreaded' problem because it seems to be happening to quite a few Vista/Win7 users, but issue is that I am on XP.

The game has no mods installed.

I will try a reinstall.

Before you go for an adapter. Have you tried just moving it to other ports? It doesn't make sense but it is a quirky thing about USB, that sometimes devices work better in different USB ports. shut down and move jack then restart. Don't use Plug'n'play capability for this. icon14.gif
