KilnerLUFC
I bought Sonic & Knuckles on XBL yesterday. I was really enjoying the gameplay. It was less than 3 yoyo's so it was a total bargain. First game I ever completed was the original Sonic. Have memories of Sonic 2 but I don't think I completed it. And I never really played Sonic & Knuckles until yesterday. Β Also got the original Sonic recently. Embarrassingly I put it down after getting stuck in the Labyrinth Zone (Act 2). Must pick iut up and complete the bastard again. Β Picked the Sonic Series up on the Marketplace when they went up in the sales, yet to play through them properly, but massive nostalgia when I started on Sonic 1. JON22
I'm not really a collector but I can never let go of my old gaming systems and most of the games on them, even though I'm getting bored of games in general. They're all in storage containers or a shelf gathering dust. Plus I have some ridiculously rare games that I found on the high street as I don't buy online (except when I borrowed my mum's laptop to buy SNES Cannon Fodder and PS1 Front Mission 3). Β The rarest collection of games I own are the last three .Hacks on the PS2. I'd played the first one called Infection and was hooked, but knew that inless I bought online I'd never play the last 3. Then the day I got my money, all 3 of the sequels were in the shop I go to buy used games. F*cking win Mister Pink
Fireman
I recently bought B.O.B. at a flea market, I wanted to buy it for the SNES, but they didn't have it for the SNES, only for the Mega Drive, so now I need to go buy a Mega Drive Β Got my eyes on one already. KilnerLUFC
Β Β Good man. Hope you enjoy them. Β Ah... I got stuck in the Labyrinth Zone and got pissed off haha Must pick it up again soon Β Less than Β£4 on the marketplace if you haven't got them still (not sure how you meant 'pick it up again). Β Β I meant pick up where I left off. Β Less than 4 quid. Can't go wrong! Β @Fireman: Never played B.O.B. Is it good? Β Β Only problem is, I haven't figured out how to save on it yet, so gradually stopped playing them. Β Recently been considering about finally upgrading to a current gen console, but then the amount of highly rated titles that have flopped in one way or another has actually put me off slightly. The amount of sh*t that has now come into gaming is also putting me majorly off, from all the micro-transactions, DLC etc, to the constant updates and having to fix broken games...And this is where I come on to this topic. At the moment, I have a Gamecube, PS2, 360, Wii and a PS3, and quite frankly I spend a huge chuck of my gaming time playing through all the old classics, and it's great to be able to just put a game in and play it straight off, knowing you unlocked something by completing a certain task. Β A lot of the digital games on my PS3 and 360 are old school games, and I tend to play them a lot. That and the fact that in the past month or so, the amount I have spent on picking old games up could have bought me a current gen console and some games, but like I said, at the moment I have zero desire to spend such a massive amount on something that will be wasted. Β This weekend alone I spent around Β£50-60 on: Β - A 2nd Gamecube (only purchased 'cos of the peripherals it came with) - SSX Tricky (PS2) - NFS: Most Wanted (PS2) - GTA: Liberty City Stories (PS2) - GTA :Vice City Stories (PS2) - NBA Street 01 (PS2) - Freekstyle (PS2) - Gran Turismo 4 (PS2) - Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition (PS2) - Far Cry 3 (360) Β Maybe it's a sign of my age, but I get more enjoyment playing the old classics than I do the newer "AAA" titles. Don't get me wrong, I love some of the newer games, but overall I'm happier on my PS2 and Gamecube. Again, showing age but kids today will never be able to fully appreciate what gaming was all about, back when it was all about gameplay, rather than making a quick buck... KilnerLUFC
So, what would you lot reccomend as some great gems for the PS2, PSX, Gamecube and the original Xbox (Must work on 360)? SpooferJahk
Been acquiring older consoles over here, namely ones I used to emulate all the time back in the early 2000's like the Genesis, Super Nintendo and the Nintendo 64 after being a Sony kid missing out on some of the fine titles on that console. I just like the authenticity for those consoles instead of emulating them and in the N64's case, having the games work the way they should without odd graphic or gameplay issues. Genesis kinda falls in this category too with the sound chip not being easy to emulate. Β My main focus is older PC games from the DOS and Windows 9x era though, just something about that spectrum of the gaming world is much more fascinating than the older console spectrum to me. When there were games that weren't emulating the console experience like Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen, or Wacky Wheels, you had games like System Shock, Ultima, SimCity, Doom, Strife, Deus Ex, Thief: The Dark Project, Unreal, Quake, Fallout, SiN, and many MANY others that did a lot of things that pushed the gaming world in many different directions. Plus, before the new millennium came around these games would come in very impractical, unnecessary packaging that is really cool to have on display and to hold in the hands. Something about big box PC games that just looks and feels amazing, it's really hard to describe unless you have owned one before. Anyways, PC is my main collecting focus and I do have some really nice crown jewels in my collection. KilnerLUFC

KilnerLUFC
as a huge buyer and seller in vintage video games I handle from Atari to the PlayStation 2 there are so many great games depends on what you look for, my personal favorite is conkers bad fur day which I sell for $120 Β Was a member of a few Game Trading sites on FB back when I had my account, and some of the prices for games just astounded me. Conkers Bad Fur Day was like treasure to everyone, especially if it was still a perfectly sealed boxed version, never saw one go for less than Β£120. Just crazy to think that back in the day it was just your average, run-of-the-mill game...not as in the game wasn't brilliant, but doubt anyone ever predicted how much the value for it would be in 10 years time. This is one of the reasons I'm straying away from the N64 for my collection, it's something I'd need a decent income before venturing in to. Then again, suppose it depends on whether you really are arsed about having just a cart, or the full works. Shame really, that'd be the console that would bring me the most nostalgia tbh, since it's still my 2nd favourite console of all time. Β The Rare Replay is what's sold the Xbox One for me though. Apart from missing Goldeneye, the collection is like my childhood on one disc, can't wait to buy it at some point. Got the 2 Banjo games for the 360, but there's some other true gems on there, such as Jet Force Gemini. Β The prices of some games are what's holding me back at the moment though, and the reason my Gamecube currently has such a lack of games, since the games still go for the price of modern games...Luigis Mansion is one that I have to have a lot of spare cash before I buy. Twilight Princess is one that I've decided will never be added to my collection since that goes for around Β£80...hence I'd rather buy a Wii U and get the HD version next year. Β Been acquiring older consoles over here, namely ones I used to emulate all the time back in the early 2000's like the Genesis, Super Nintendo and the Nintendo 64 after being a Sony kid missing out on some of the fine titles on that console. I just like the authenticity for those consoles instead of emulating them and in the N64's case, having the games work the way they should without odd graphic or gameplay issues. Genesis kinda falls in this category too with the sound chip not being easy to emulate. Β As I just said, money holds me back from getting some of the older games so I tend to emulate a lot too, but got to agree, nothing beats having the game in it's original format. Tend to find the N64 Emulators can be so buggy at times on certain games...and it says something when none of them can emulate CBFD properly. Did manage to complete the Dam level of Goldeneye on my phone though, which was an achievement in itself due to the awkward controls on the phone. Β This is why I need a Wii for my collection, easiest one for emulators. Β Β Β Cheers for the list as well Tox, some games on there I'd completely forgotten about. Got the likes of Driver, MGS1, Crash Bandicoot 1 and Destruction Derby on my PS3, the latter one that I realised was more a nostalgia trip than actually a great game. So hard to steer at times, and makes you realise how basic the game was, yet back in the day it happened to be one of my favourite. Think it was on the Canyon level where there was a narrow strip of track that led directly to a jump, and if you managed to pull it off right, you could swing your car 180 degrees and wedge it, thus causing every car in the pack to pile up...fun times, ha! Β (Apologies, quick Youtube search tells me it was on DD2...a brilliant game.) Β The Tomb Raider collection will be next for me on the PS1 (PS3). Β Surprised to see you mention Oni though. Remember playing the game for hours back as a teen, but always thought it was one of them games that passed a lot of people by. Β Manhunt, Max Payne, Half Life and Smugglers Run were already on my list, but the others I need to definitely look in to. Shame to say I have never played Bully? Β Pretty happy with my PS2 collection so far, managed to get the likes of the full Burnout collection, full SSX collection, full GTA collection, and some others throwin in the mix. Definitely need to get Sled Storm to finish my "EA BIG" collection off though... Edited November 18, 2015 by KilnerLUFC

Definitely need to get Sled Storm to finish my "EA BIG" collection off though... You're quite welcome. I agree, I find that some of my favourite games on past generations weren't anything special on a technical, or storytelling aspect, but nostalgia make them a lot better. The thing is: gaming was simpler back in the days, and we didn't expect a game to fulfill all of our expectations, but instead we played it for what it was, if you know what I mean. However yes, I had a lot of fun playing both Destruction Derby and Destruction Derby 2. Β The Tomb Raider games were, and still are legendary! Β I have Oni, and I still play it from time to time. While the controls are atrocious, and make you want to smash the joypad, once you get used to them, the game become a lot more enjoyable. You know what? I'm surprised you know it, too - that game is very underrated, yet unique in its genre: in fact, the only game that shares some similarities with it is Dontnod's Remember Me, which came out more than a decade later, and the rather small Oni fanbase even consider it a spiritual sequel to Oni. Β Those are classics! Max Payne revolutionized TPS and Half-Life revolutionized FPS. I don't believe Manhunt is violent just for the sake of it, instead it shows you what a man is willing to do for freedom, which is something that got overlooked by its gamers. Smuggler's Run, and its sequel, are very original games - they even inspired GTA: San Andreas and The Crew. However no, there's nothing you should be ashamed of - Bully is a game I highly suggest you, though; that game has a lot of funny contents and everything makes sense in the context of the game. Rockstar Games perfectly captured the feel of being a schoolboy, putting in this game a lot of passion and culture. Really, it makes you think of when you were a schoolboy, and revisit those memories in such an inspiring way. I, myself, never played a lot of amazing games. Β Anyway, most of those games in that list have been lost, sold and gifted, but I'm restarting collecting some of the games I consider classics, and I found myself very pleased by some games. The games I currently own are these ones: Β PS2: Β Β Β - Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy (Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City & Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) - Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories - The Warriors - Manhunt - Max Payne - Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne - Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix - Bully - Red Dead Revolver - Oni - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Half-Life - Half-Life: Decay - The Operative: No One Lives Forever - Quake III: Revolution - Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - Hitman: Blood Money - Final Fantasy XII - Beyond Good & Evil - 187 Ride or Die Β PS3: Β Grand Theft Auto IV Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition Β I don't have a PS3 anymore, though. Fun to just put a game on and do some basic tasks, yet still have a ton of fun. Take Smugglers Run for example, that game just wouldn't sell these days, purely because of how basic it was, yet back in the day it was a highly rated game and still a favourite for me. Drive to a location, pick some loot up, drive to another location, drop it off, repeat. So simple, yet brilliant. trip
Good News Everyone! Β The final piece of my working art installment was purchased (via ebay) today. I tried to find it local and I couldn't...but I still wasn't going to spend stupid money and I got the same price I was willing to pay local. Even lower. Β Anyway it will be here next week and then I will take pictures. Until then it is kind of hard to explain - even though it is simple as sh*t. Β Bottom line is I'm reconstructing what was a typical family room/finished basement fixture from the late 70's early 80's. A period correct TV(I'm actually going to use two different TVs and swap them out now and then - one BW and one color). A pristine Atari 2600 with pristine controllers. Naturally that wood grain cartridge holder full of cartridges is included. The missing piece was the the period correct TV stand on wheels. The stand will be here next week...sweet!!!! Β Bonus: Aside from an occasional swap of the Bw/color TV, I also have a pristine Intellivision with a complete library of games(overlays and all) that I'm going to swap out the Atari with. Β Β Β Honest. It may not sound like much, but when I have this all together as part of the first floor of my house* it is going to be cool. I was a Junk
Β Β Β *in case you don't know me - I'm the dude that has coin op arcade machines and that kinda sh*t on my first floor. Β Β dang wish I had an arcade cabinet. So expensive though. Maybe one day. Most interested in a type of cabinet called "candy cabinets" which are like machines where you sit down to play. Even then getting any real hardware to play would be insanely expensive as well T_T trip

KarimNTerr
Know exactly what you mean, and it's the reason I still love to play some of the older titles today. Don't get me wrong, love how games have advanced, but like I said, it's the fact that they managed to be so basic yet so fun that makes them still playable for me. I am excited about evolution, too; seeing what these new machines are able to do is fascinating. However, the classics have something really special about them... I don't know, I think their simplicity is what makes them even more enjoyable. Gaming has surely changed a lot in the past few years. Β Like I said, the TR games are high on my list of ones I'm getting when I have some spare cash. Been years since I touched them, so memories are lacking, but the T-Rex will never be forgotten...Got Legend, Anniversary, Underworld and the reboot, so definitely need the rest... The one I liked least was Tomb Raider: Underworld, mostly because I played the PS2 version, in which a lot of things weren't included as opposed to the PS3 and Xbox 360 ones. It felt a little bit empty, but I liked it anyway. Β I don't remember much of the game tbh as honestly it wasn't one I played heavily, but it is one that I remember well. Remember it been a good beat-em-up with weapons thrown in the mix though? Will have to scour Amazon for it at some point... Absolutely! The fighting mechanics are some of the best ones I've ever seen in a video game to this day. On the other hand, shooting wasn't that well designed to be honest - in fact, I rarely use weapons in Oni, even though the weapons themselves were actually very nice. Here's a site which shows the weapons available in the game: http://oni.bungie.org/onishots/weapons/ Β Half Life was a game I happened to pick up without knowing anything about it, but instantly fell in love with it, currently in my basket on Amazon atm. Max Payne, again, a brilliant game mixing the bullet time mode with great FPS elements. That part of the game where you had to traverse that path with the baby crying gave me nightmares though! Unfortunately, I've never completed Half-Life because it always crashes during the "On a Rail" mission, but I finished its PS2-exclusive episode Half-Life: Decay. Along with Half-Life 2 (or more precisely, The Orange Box), it's one of the FPS games I'd really like to collect in the future. Β Haha... yeah, I remember that part, a real nightmare indeed! The Max Payne series is very high on my appreciation list, such an amazing story and gameplay. Looking forward to play Max Payne 3, as well. Β Nice collection! The Splinter Cell games are ones I want to get the Xbox version of though. No idea why, think it's purely because I remember the hype surrounding the game when it was released, how amazing it looked. Currently got around 30-35 games for the PS2, just a few more and I'll have the main ones I want, then I'll just be getting ones to make the collection, lesser titles that I never really played, or ones just based on nostalgia alone. Thank you! Yep, the Splinter Cell series is actually very nice! I was a little bit skeptic at first, but once I played them I had a lot of fun. As a Stealth genre lover, they didn't disappoint me gameply-wise. Their storyline, while not as elaborated as Metal Gear's, are interesting enough, but, in my point of view, not the series strongest point, but I think it's just me. Β Also, if you like Stealth games, and above all like games that give you various ways to complete a task, you should consider getting the Hitman games. I'm currently playing Hitman: Blood Money (completed it twice in 5 days, which is a personal record - haha! So addictive...), and loved every bit of it. The gameplay is actually very complex, and it took me a playthrough and a half to fully understand everything about the game (gameplay-wise). Of course, there is a scripted way to complete each mission, and if you mathematically calculate the enemies' movement you always find yourself in the right spot at the right moment, but, you can do every mission how you prefer. The thing I like most are "Accidents" - killing targets making it seem like an accident. If you never had the chance, get these games, you'll find them very easily for every platform (PC, PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PSN, and even the HD Trilogy for the 7th generation of consoles). I'm not talking about Hitman: Absolution, though, 'cause even if I never played it, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like it, personally. I saw various gameplay videos, and gave me headache. It doesn't feel like a true Hitman game. I just hope that the guys at Io-Interactive know what they are doing with the new one, but as far as I've seen it looks very promising. SpooferJahk
So I was wandering around my city looking for a nice winter jacket and me julie spotted some Super Mario sh*t in a small window. I went in to the shop which turned out to be a gaming shop which is sort of unusual because it's on a pedestrian high street, with only shops like RiverIsland and mobile phone shops etc. But, this shop is selling old Gamecubes and old Xbox etc. I nearly wet myself. I was as excited as a pedo in a playground. It's been so long since I've seen an old Xbox. They're huge especially compared to my slim. Β So, first thing I did was to check out what games they had for PS2 and Xbox. Man, GTA: LCS, Vice City, GTA III and more importantly for me recently, The Warriors. I bought it for my Xbox thinking it may be backwards compatible but it's not on the list. I will however, buy an old Xbox to play it on though but I might get the PS2 instead as there seems to be more GTA stuff for it. Β Any you guys into collecting stuff like this? I feel i'm gonna start collecting gaming consoles from now on. Get the original Xbox if you want to play multiplatform games from the sixth generation on it. Unless it had a good PC port and did not get fubared in the transition, multiplatform games looked and played better on the original Xbox. Also if you like Sega games, Sega actually released some really good Dreamcast-spired exclusives when the Xbox was still fresh. Gunvalkyrie, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Jet Set Radio Future are well worth the purchase of the console if you ask me. Also it is easy to mod to and highly recommended since you have the option to install games to the hard drive with it and you can easily upgrade the hard drive in it as well, virtually getting a drive that can possibly hold your whole collection on it and then some. Β Β Actually picked the Hitman HD collection up for my 360, and downloaded Absolution some months back, but haven't actually touched any of them yet. I had a period where I went crazy on buying games for my collection, and about 90 or so games I have have never been played. Remember playing some of the original Hitman game as a kid so that's what made me pick it up, just need to bust it out at some point. Β Was watching a 'best of PSX' video last night, and MGS1 was top of the list. Made me remember what a great game it is, so that series will probably be the next one I play through.
