Antagonist thread.

This is where you can discuss GTAV's main villian.

 

So far, Villians in GTA follow a general formula. Protag meets Antag at the beginning of the storyline and does some missions for them. Then the Antagonist turns out to be a moustache twirling swine and betrays them. Protag then spends the rest of the game "hunting" them down and at the end, they kill them.

Basically:

1.Meet them (maybe some missions)

2.Betray

3.Rest of game

4.Kill them at end.

(Massimo Torini is special as he is only #4, but that wasn't the best storyline was it?)

In the GTA games, the main antagonist is introduced at the very beginning of the game, but as a ally or friend. Sometimes, the antagonist is the main reason that a protagonist visits the city/state. In most GTA games with antagonists, they usually fake a friendship or business relationship with the protagonist then suddenly, in one mission, reveal their hate for or double cross the main character and begin to open fire on them with a weapon. The main character always hunts down and eliminates the antagonist eventually, usually in some big event at the end of the game.

Antagonists usually have a gang behind them for protection. The main character will battle the antagonist group and sometimes take them over. It is in the GTA games nature that the main antagonist is killed at the end of the game by the Protagonist.

 

I think this has been tried a bit too much, having mustache twirling scrum. Maybe the main antagonist be an actual good guy? This doesn't mean the protagonist has to be bad, maybe they could have mutanal respect for each other, or something. In reality, villians have similar goals to Protagonists, so I don't see why this shouldn't apply to GTA.

I think a sort of a lance vance antagonist would be cool someone who you work with directly, which makes it more emotional if he decides which as the antagonist obviously will to turn.

 

VC ENDING SPOILER!!!

I hated it at the ending of VC when lance vance turned, that was a bit of a hit in the face, tommy really was being a dick though

no black/white characters. this shall be done, forever.

 

 

take Sonny Forelli or Pulaski & Tenpenny.

They're made to hate. Same thing with Dimitri, but since I chose the REVENGE ending in GTA IV, he isn't the antagonist who gets killed and the story is over, like in VC or SA.

 

It ends with a guy who actually is "quite human".

 

The following GTA shall have more guys like Ray Boccino, Jimmy Pegorino, Timur, Bulgarin, Rocco,...

 

Guys with different sides to their characters.

one nearly equal to the size of my protagonist...We are Brock Lesnar and he is Michael Clarke Duncan or something similar in a ninjaesque fight to the death on the top of a skyscraper.

You wanna play the music that is played on starwars when there is a light-saber fight as well? How about some force assisted jumps, then you parachute off the building after each other whilst attempting to hit each other with throwing knives then you swiftly land on a ledge and continue flipping and kicking until one is hanging off the edge by his fingers AND THEN! he asks for help and then when he gets it just yanks the antagonist off the building and thats the end of the story.

Not too cliche is it?

 

EDIT: I think some cool fighting moves would be pretty awesome though (sorry to rain on ya parade) i have this combat mode idea, i will include it when i decide to finish off this concept i am making.

honestly, I want a complete bastard.

 

someone ruthless as f*ck, who is openly willing to kill you, your family, everyone you know. and follows up on it. in cutscenes, you see them brutally execute people for the smallest of things. someone who you can hate but at the same time wish you could do what they do.

Somebody a lot more complicated. We need less revenge and more awesome. What about a completely evil dude? Somebody like the Tiger in Death Run (the book, by Jack Higgins). He's willing to finance terroists, murder guys, take over governments from the inside, all for cold hard cash. We need more "loyalty" options, and maybe at the end there could be another riot like SA and the gangs unite against the city gov't. Then its like Escape From New York or the War Games, anarchy until you return in the next game to clean up the town. I dunno, there's so many cool ways they could do it. The characters should develop though, maybe a brother who gets caught up in drugs as the game progresses until he loses it and tries to kill you. Just my mixed up ideas here, but who knows, maybe somebody'll agree.

I think there should be a sort of 'respectable' antagonist. Somebody that isn't a complete dick or traitor, but you just happen to be on opposite ends. Perhaps a police chief or something. Both he and the protagonist completely understand/respect eachother's goals and motivation, but when it comes down to it one of them has to go.

 

Perhaps they wouldn't be the 'main' antagonist, but still very important to what's happening.

They should make the main antagonist a real physco. Like a total whack job who does some unbelievably odd things. For instance, he skins people or is a canibal or whatever. That would make him more intimidating and make the player want to confront him.

Timur for BOGT is a good example. right from the moment you meet him, you want to put a bullet in the motherf*cker. his cold hearted personality, he never liked Luis, and his lines were killer! Bulgarin was butchered to seem more emotional, unlike the Bulgarin we briefly see in Niko's story. we need someone who openly executes his own gang members, something like a mini Hitler.

A guy who's ruthless, crazy but still very human. In fact, I want the anatgonist to be more heroic than the protagonist. This time around I want a Vercetti-type character, an evil drug dealer and mass murderer who is just completely venal and has all these megalomaniacal delusions.

 

It will make it easier to understand why the whole world wants you dead. Niko was a bad man but a good businessman, he didn't do drugs and was calm and reasonable. So I never understood why Dimitri kept betraying him. I think we should play as the cold-blooded traitor this time.

Save that for a secondary antagonist. And for a third, let's go with a cop or something. But one antagonist, nah. We need multiple. And please, please, don't have them collaborating like the big bad wolves to come get you.

 

But the main enemy throughout the entire story needs to be someone as slimy, grimy, and evil as they come. Somebody who's total lack of standards, or even general human emotion; makes even a lowlife like a GTA protagonist hate them with a passion. And make them short.
