Sudden texture/graphics problem

Recommended Posts

I have been playing GTA 4 for about 3 days now and after starting it up today, I noticed this odd filter on the graphics that I cant seem to get rid of. Everything looks very odd, I included a picture below to what I'm talking about. Maybe somebody here has experienced a similar problem and was able to fix it? Much help would be appreciated

My specs are

Amd Athlon II X3 455

3.31 GZ, 4 GB ram

Windows XP Prof SP 3

EVGA GTX 460 768mb

here is the pic

Instead of reinstalling your current video drivers, have you tried updating to the latest driver? Or are you already on the latest drivers?

Do you get artifacts in other games, anywhere else on the PC? If so, it's your graphics card.

No , only in GTA 4. All other games ( Mafia 2 , Cod Black Ops, PES 2011 ) work just fine.

The problem seemed to go away again after I tried the benchmark test, it looks fine now.hmm I have no idea what the problem is.

Since you're on XP I'd recommend removing the drivers, rebooting, cleaning with driver sweeper and then installing the latest drivers. Probably a faulty driver install, some settings probably get corrupted after a reboot.

ok I removed the drivers, rebooted, cleaned with driver sweeper and then reinstalled the drivers and GTA 4 definitely started up faster. I did a benchmark test on everything high and I had an average fps of about 41.25 . It's working great so far and I hope it will stay this way. Thanks a lot for the help

Do you use a disc to play the game? If you do, try to clean it. I have absolutely no clue why you are experiencing these problems, they're unlike anything I've seen before. confused.gif

No. I bought the game from steam. I have no clue why I have this problem as well, I tried seeing if others had a similar problem but couldn't find any. The thing is, all other games work perfectly.

Have you tried repeating the process of cleaning the drivers?

Yes I have. It seems that everytime I do that, the game does work again fine. But after a day or so, it goes back to that awful texture. This is very strange. Maybe It had something to do with the fact that my PCI slot wasnt switched to EXPRESS in bios, I will check now and report back

UPDATE:

So I switched to PCI express in bios and GTA 4 is working fine. For now. Hopefully this fixed it

I didn't realize that that could have been the cause. Never even knew you could switch a PCIe slot out of Express mode. Weird. Hopefully this solved it for you man, though that's an oddball solution for an oddball problem. Best of luck!

Indeed. It was a very odd problem and solution, but it seemed to fix it for me. So in case anybody is having a similar problem... ( doesnt seem like it ), just set your GPU to PCI EXPRESS instead of PCI.
