Two Faced Tanner
Alright, so I had San Andreas installed back 3 years ago on my WinXp and I had some savegames important enough to keep. Today, I installed San Andreas v.1.00 on my Win7 and I tried to load these savegames, but game first didn't response after loading (black screen) and after I tried to solve it by creating "Gtasasav" dir, game takes me back to start when it comes to load the savegame. Both games (then and now) are legit, but I don't know what version was the other game. Is there any way to get these savegames back to version 1.00? radioman
First, What game version was used to create the save? Did you delete the .set file in the User Files Folder in Documents after the Windows 7 upgrade? Have you tried 98 compatibilty mode? Do you have any mods/trainers? If you are using mods and/or trainers, then that could be why your saves are not working. The OS makes no difference on save compatibility, as I use my flash drive and swap saves between my Vista desktop, 7 laptop, Xp Pro laptop, and old XP Home laptop, and it works fine on all those... Also, Please post the Required information from the Pinned Troubleshooting topic, as posted by Justin(a Moderator) here: Before you post a topic, please read the pinned bug lists/fixes. It is likely that you're not the first person to encounter a problem, and we may have found a solution already. In addition to these pinned topics, please utilize the forum search engine. adamcs has produced an extremely helpful guide which explains the finer points of successful searching, accessible here. If all of the above is no help, you'll need to post a new topic. Please provide useful topic titles. "Help" or "problem" give us no insight into the problem - every topic in the Troubleshooting forum will no doubt entail a problem seeking help! To get the most amount of help for your problem, we need as many details as we can get about your system's specs. Therefore it is highly suggested (read: demanded) that you provide: • What platform: PC, PS2, or X-Box • What version number of GTA: SA • What CPU and its speed • How much RAM, also what kind (DDR, SDRAM) and speed • What video card and vram and driver version • Which version of Windows (and any service packs) • Which DirectX version and driver version • What sound card and driver version • History: Is this your first install? Did it work once before? Anything that is relevant. • Screenshots, if applicable. This is especially necessary with display issues which can be explained far easier by use of visual aids. • Above all else, a detailed description of your problem. Give as much information as possible! Keep it relevant, though. We don't need a fifty-page printout from some diagnosis program. Usually the above prompts will suffice. Obviously, since you have Windows 7, you can ignore the part about what Service Pack(SP), as Windows 7 does not currently have any Service Packs... Also, game saves are stored in the User Files Folder in Documents-this folder is usually created automatically after you run the game for the first time-sometimes you have to save first for it to be created-I had this happen with V2 when I installed it on my 7 laptop and Vista desktop(the User Files Folder was not created until I ran the game for the first time). However, if you use 98 compatibilty mode, the User Files folder is moved to the Public folder. Just a heads up... Two Faced Tanner
• What platform: PC • What version number of GTA: SA 1.00 • What CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 820 Processor 2.80 Ghz • How much RAM: 6.0 GB • What video card: ATI Radeon HD5450, driver date: 17 05 2010 • Which version of Windows: Windows 7 Home Premium • Which DirectX version and driver version: DX 11, version 8.740.0.0 • What sound card: ATI High Definition Audio Device, driver date: 2010-04-06; Realtek High Definition Audio, driver date: 2009-11-09 • History: Is this your first install? -> Yes • Screenshots: just the black screen (before Gtasasav) or Francis Intl. cutscene (after Gtasasav, even after I copied back back-up file and deleted regedit entry) First, What game version was used to create the save? No clue. I cannot check it anyway. But it was not warez version. Did you delete the .set file in the User Files Folder in Documents after the Windows 7 upgrade? There was no upgrade. It's a different PC with different OS on it, so .set file from back then is not saved. Have you tried 98 compatibilty mode? Yes, no changes. Do you have any mods/trainers? No. Game is just installed. I didn't have any mods on the other game too. Location of "GTA User files" wasn't a problem in W7, I just can't make it work. I think there might be save versions issue but I don't know how to rollback save version (if possible). Girish
Do you mean to say that the savegame is recognized at the Load screen but when you try to load it starts from the beginning? This happens when you're trying to load a v2 savefile created using v2 script files, but on a v1 executable. Is that so? Are you sure you have a version 1 copy of the game? radioman
To add to what Girish said about the game versions...Are you sure you have V1?-When did you buy the game? Was It before June 2005? If so, it is v1, if not, it is V2 and if it is the Steam/D2D version it is V3. Cause June 2005 is when V1 was stopped being sold-as I bought my first copy in either June or July 2005, and it was the Second Edition (AKA V2). Have you tried an un-install/re-install and see if that helps-I say that, cause you said you added a file manually, and that might be what's causing the problem too. I tried to solve it by creating "Gtasasav" di-that is where you said you created a file(folder) manually, so that might be interfering with the game.? Two Faced Tanner
Was It before June 2005? If so, it is v1, if not, it is V2 and if it is the Steam/D2D version it is V3. Cause June 2005 is when V1 was stopped being sold-as I bought my first copy in either June or July 2005, and it was the Second Edition (AKA V2). Okay, then it looks like both versions of game - the one I had 3 years ago and one I have now (bought it few days ago) are versions 2.0 Anyway, there is the situation: 1. I bought the game, installed, run, quit, copied my savegame to GTA user files, run again. Savegame appeared in one of loading slots but after I tried to load it, there was black screen and nothing else. So i quit the game using task manager. 2. I found "gtasasav" solution thread on the forum, installed hex ed, made changes (.exe file, registry, and in documents folder in W7), copied savegame to "gtasasav" directory, run game. Savegame appeared again, but now after i tried to load it, instead of black screen, i had the Francis intl cutscene and newgame. 3. I tried to un-do changes (deleting "gtasasav" folder from documents, deleting registry "gtasasav" entry, copied back .exe backup), but even after that, when I try to load the savegame, game starts from the beginning 4. Finally, I uninstallled the game (with deleting "Rockstar games" folder in Program files and Gta user files) and installed it back again. Run, quit, copied savegame to gta user files, deleted .set file, run again - and no changes, game still takes me back to the start (cutscene). GTA SA is the only GTA game I have installed on my PC now (and i had no GTA game installed since PC was bought). Game is run with compatibility to XP SP2. Properties of gta_sa.exe - Modified: 5 august 2005, 14:51:48. What to do? Two Faced Tanner
Ok, I found solution for the problem. I downloaded GTA SA Savegame Editor 3.1 from somewhere-in-the-internet (easy to google), uploaded my savegame to this program and saved it as "version 2 unmodified" (savegame appeared to be V1.00). Now it works. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/467077-gta-sa-win7-savegame-problem/#findComment-1060288276 Share on other sites
