I can nag for the multi-designer project, telling you every step what are you doing wrong and never telling you what I would do to remedy the situation. :D

 

I'm joking tho.

 

I might have joined in, but I hate skype more than I love designing.

I don't think so. On the one hand, in this project we will be looking for the dramatic part and the story tweaks. And on the other hand, we will look for an action-packed gameplay. At least I will make sure this happens.

Shortly, it's all gonna revolve around crime, drama, action. So.. Do I count you in? xD

listen to the ONP, he knows what he's talking. Pledge, it wont be a gangster releated one, but a story-based action-pack multidesigner project and if you wanna join you are free to do it ;]

I'm here avoiding facebook just because some people would like to hide their personal life and have some privacy. But for me, it doesn't bother at all. if you want facebook, facebook it is then.

i usually use Skype to discuss something. Discord, teamspeak and other things such as social medias are some things i dont really use.

Dropped to say that back in the day, designers didn't use skype nor anything like that to ''gather everybody''. Instead, everybody had their turn and when your turn was to come, you had 3 days limit to design a mission otherwise you'd have been skipped. In case you want to discuss story, characters, or anything before the project is started, i suggest you to do it here because:

 

1) It's more clear, anyone can read everyone's posts and is better in making decisions (and you don't have to be careful about different time zones).

 

2) Skype's more messy and everyone is writing non stop (assuming there's 5 or more people in the same time) and it's harder to agree on anything since everyone will push their suggestions forward & keep on writing (can be seen in DYOM skype chat last year).

 

My point is that things like Skype or similar ain't necessary and it can be done without it, but if you really wish to use it, then alright. Just sayin.

Yeah man you do have a point here. Points actually..

One thing though, is the spoiler thing. We don't want to spoil the story to the whole community, it will just ruin the taste of the story and make everything so predictable. That's why I say we assign each one a role in a Skype group. One is responsible for the story for ex, one for the characters and the rest will be just designers. I say that's a more manageable way if you get what I mean.

How can we make a successful project, and we can't even f*cking agree on our way of communication. Let's grow and wisen the hell up.

Yeah, this exactly. I think Skype can be optional, if you guys wanna use it to brainstorm ideas - go ahead. (Although in terms of voice chat Discord is superior and I would strongly recommend that instead) But main discussion should go to the discussion threads. Each multi-designer project has had a discussion thread made prior to the projects creation used to brainstorm ideas and confirm places in the project and a main thread where you upload the missions and discuss how the story should progress. Oh yeah, and if you guys really are going to go along with this, It's important to realise that you need a strong team leader. Someone who can be strict about the quality of missions created so that the story can flow nicely and there aren't too many grammatical errors, crashes, bugs, and impossibly hard missions. Someone who can monitor whoevers turn it is next and ensure that they have their mission created by the deadline, or else everyone will slack off on the project and it will never get created.

 

I'm saying this because I think that in every past mission pack there's been atleast one mission that has ruined the flow of the narrative due to poor plot points and grammatical errors or had some sort of game breaking bug, crash or impossible to complete objective, and the leaders had let it slide instead of skipping their mission because they were too lenient. I admit it, I was guilty of this.

Hahha. Multidesigner project. Reminds me of GTA III RELOADED, when I alone finished the entire chapter while as a group project it kept failing.

My point is though that the main discussion of story should go in the actual discussion thread. That way everyone can participate and can post detailed suggestions and ideas as opposed to a short and unorganised conversation about the story that will end up being flooded with messages so its hard to keep track of what you have planned

I think Skype should be optional and only used for general discussion and to brainstorm and suggest plot points and mission ideas that people can incorporate, but the main discussion about story, themes, characters, ending should be kept in a thread so that everyone knows what they are doing when it is their turn.

Have fun though I don't like the sound of that either.

The only information we should have is how it all starts, some basic story information, introducing friendly characters and whatnot and let players decide where the story goes. I'm highly against the idea of planning out the whole thing. Never knowing how the story goes on was the best part of MD projects.

Planning out the ending and telling players what exactly to do kills the fun out of it, in my opinion. Every mission should show the next player what to do, but the player could always twist and bend it to his will, so the story doesn't follow one strict path.

 

But that's just how I see it. Same with keeping the discussion on the forum. If that's the way you guys are doing it then count me out. Though I may check it out when it's done.

 

Have fun guys, I'll be following your posts to see if anything changes. I'd LOVE to design for a MD project, just the way you want to do it kind if kills it for me.. but it's OK :) Just telling you what I think of it.
