V for Vinegar? I'm going to check it out today after work :)

I introduced myself in another topic over here, I used to design missions up until the first betas of V7. Can I ask, do you guys think adding your own sounds to the mission packs is important? With my upcoming project, I want to do my very best.

Edit: just read the new mission timer rules. Can we agree on an exeption? I want to release my missions in chapters rather than single missions, which will take a little longer. I won't open the topic before the first chapter is fully finished. The second chapter is going to use the storyline feature, which could take a few weeks before release. The third and last chapter won't make use of the storyline feature so I could release them mission by mission.

I don't think anyone here actually follows any rules.

What you make and how, its up to you. I don't see storyline option used lately. (It doesn't mean its broken or anything like that. Infact it works nicely.)

Sounds are nice. I myself don't like using it because there is a size limit on official DYOM page, and you have to have another site for hosting sounds. (Most of the time).

I would recommend releasing chapter by chapter instead of mission by mission. But its up to you.(I say develop your own style)

You should know that our GTAForums community is little ''closed-minded'' except few of us.

If seeing lots of downloads and views on DYOM page gives you motivation or kicks, be good enough and you have 'em.

If you are like me and value peoples opinions about your work, you might have hard time getting feedback.

That's the situation on forums right now. Fingers crossed, it becomes more active once more in the forthcoming year.

EDIT: Make stuff, share stuff. Every finished MP especially if its little long and quality made makes a difference.

I say lets flood the Mission showroom with finished projects.

Good thanks for the response. I already started making the first mission and oh boy - I need to learn how to design all over again.

I never felt the urge to add sounds, though I might add some if I think there's a sound needed. The tools menu is a great new gadget btw.

What I know is- it's going to take a lot of time. It's my 'first' project but I want it to be the bomb DYOM needs right now.

Never looked at the downloads though I sh*t myself seeing the final Johnny Nixon mission reaching 10000 DLs. I really hope I get some feedback when I'm done. There's also a lot of other projects I want to check out and play so don't expect the first chapter anytime soon.

Take you time, most importantly have fun while at it. Contrary to popular belief DYOM is not dead yet.

Hopefully I'll be around to play it when its ready.

As much as I want to, I just can't work with San Andreas anymore. I feel it became way to outdated to work with.

Even with a sh*t-ton of performance and optimization mods, it runs like sh*t on my PC.

The game isn't made for modern PCs. Plus after playing hundreds of hours of GTA V/Online, it's really hard to get back to something like San Andreas.

I didn't support it before, but i support Rytuklis' argument of DYOM V now.

I'm not saying you can't make great missions with DYOM now, V for Vinegar is amazing (Check it out)

but to work with DYOM, you must have great patience and it's certainly a major risk to make large missions with the chance of GTA crashing all of the sudden.

Well, I think the main man b'cuz of which dyom community is still running is AnDReJ98. He is fulfilling all of his duties in dyom. We'd appreciate him.

Well DYOM V sounds great but I won't buy a pc that can handle GTA5 in a million years. I still have a PS4 so making me return to SA DYOM is quite something haha.

I spend about 2,5 hours placing objects, actors, other items and making the first cutscenes. That makes the first mission about 25% done.

Edit: made some good progress.

The first chapter of my first project is going to need a trailer and a review but it's far from done. Going to be 8 missions filled with cutscenes. The second chapter will focus more on gameplay. I finally finished working on the first mission, just have to figure out how to add sounds..

Two questions:

1. How do I add sounds after a certain objective? If I'd add a song or a longer sound, how do I stop it?

2. Regarding my 2nd chapter, how many missions on map can I add to a storyline?

Thanks and a happy new year!

Happy new year to all of you. If somehow this community become inactive this year (I hope it doesn't), I'll keep doing my projects at the website. Stay tuned, new projects in a former universe coming soon.

Heya guys, I was coming in here to ask if anyone could help me(theoretically and perhaps practically) out with a small project that I've been focusing on, add me to friends and/ or PM me over skype, if interested. shimeon.ewanaka(inspired by Koalas :) )

I can help you out in theory. If it's about fixing an error then I can't really help you, I hate when something goes wrong and I have to select objectives and so on.

If it's about helping you with the story then I'm the man :)

Fashion, can I be the tester for this MP you're working on? Just curious.

Not sure. I was thinking about only releasing the chapters when they're ready to everyone because then the story makes a better effect. I hit 100 objectives and 100 actors on the first mission alone and the moving cutscenes aren't perfect because I was still learning the moving cutscene mechanic. The ending cutscenes only contain like three cutscenes because I ran out of space so it's pretty half assed.

Besides, if I gave you or everybody only the first mission, it'd make curious how it goes on. I don't want to keep anyone waiting (only between chapters) as I don't know how long it'll take to release the second mission. I have some big plans for it too.

Tell you what: I'll may 'hire' a mission tester/teaser trailer maker once the fourth mission is complete :)

I can confirm 99 objectives won't crash when its handled correctly. eg. You regulary hide actors/cars and all that.

If you cluster stuff into mission there are more chances of crashing

It works fine. My actors turned into balls so I started hiding them.

Gonna work on the second mission tonight.

I have my vacation next week just to work on the project haha

Huzaifa khan

If we hide useless actors, objects etc. Then we can create 100 objectives, 100 actors mission.

Like my mission Code Of Silence:

100 Objectives

100 Actors

99 Objects.

Were you aiming at those numbers when designing it? or was it just coinsidence?

No, I'm not aiming those numbers. My target is 85+ objectives everytime. But in my last 2 , 3 missions I reach that maximum level. So you can call it coinsidence. XD :D

Bigger missions can lead to big f*ck'ups. (I've been there many many times in my DYOM career.)

also

Huzaifa here reminded me of one important thing about art. (Any creation is art in my book.)

and this is for all designers here, if you are not aware of it:

Big numbers don't mean quality. Not that it should be avoided or its bad or anything. Don't get me wrong.

Most important thing about any kind of art is how it makes you feel. If your creation makes you feel proud when you play all finished and polished, you made something good. Especially if you set your own standards high.

In everything you do there is little, too much and just right. Its on creator to find the sweet spot.

I would never add unneeded content into my creations just to make it bigger and longer.

(As a fan of metal music I see it situations like this all the time. Number of musicians seem believe that if their music is hard to make/produce/play that it must be good, it doesn't mean sh*t, and mostly their music truly is sh*t. Its all about the feeling, harmony, emotions. Who knows if we were AI maybe we would appreciate these technical things more, but we aren't.)

I know I ramble on a lot, but if it inspires anyone. I'm a happy man.
