JoeyLeone25 19 Posted March 14, 2011 Could it be Drunken Angel? Good guess, but no it isn't Drunken Angel.
JoeyLeone25 19 Posted March 16, 2011 I'm not particularly fond of double posting, but seeing as the activity in here has died down, I'll give you another clue (if you were expecting another screenshot, shame on you, there's THREE on the previous page). brownbear was incredibly close with Drunken Angel, but he ever so slightly strayed away from the actual title of the film. I think Otter meant Stray Dog. No I've seen them, I just don't remember them as easy for some reason. Most of these black and white movies being posted I have no clue. Anything earlier than 1970, and I'll probably be in the dark.

Lithium 19 Posted March 16, 2011 I'm game for that. I don't watch many black and white films, doesn't mean I wouldn't.
JoeyLeone25 19 Posted March 17, 2011 I'm just taking random stabs in the dark here. Stay Dog? Correct my friend, I hope my poorly crafted subtle message ('he ever so slightly strayed') had some effect as I couldn't think of anything else to use that wouldn't just blatantly give the film away ('loss of gun plot', 'baseball segment', 'Mifune', 'Shumura', 'Kurosawa', 'Occupied-Japan' etc). Fun Fact of the Day: Kurosawa originally wrote Stray Dog as a novel due to hearing a story about a local police detective who lost his pistol during a routine stop (he was also a huge fan of crime writer Georges Simenon). After this he decided it would work better as a film, and developed the screenplay from his novel which remains unpublished to this day. Also, the opening credit sequence shows a dog panting in the sun, and an American woman accused him of injecting the dog with rabies and in his autobiography he writes about his strong sense of dissapointment and disgust at this allegation; “Because the Japanese were barbarians, injecting a dog with rabies was just the sort of thing we would do, and she had no time for the truth...In the end I was forced to write a deposition, and I never at any other moment experience a stronger sense of regret over Japan’s losing the war.” (Oh, yea, I'm a Kurosawa-phile). Moonshield 9,919 Posted March 17, 2011 Was it Stray Dog where he'd first pointed the camera at the sun? I know there was a big fear that it would melt the silver-lined film used at the time.

JoeyLeone25 19 Posted March 17, 2011 Was it Stray Dog where he'd first pointed the camera at the sun? I know there was a big fear that it would melt the silver-lined film used at the time. No such shot in Stray Dog, but if my memory serves me, there is one in Rashomon, which was down to the inability to use natural light to film a certain sequence. I wouldn't be surprised if the fear behind the film was true as well, which would have probably surfaced initially from the underlying fear that film was precious during the Occupation, and any loss (whether it was due to accident, nature or idiocy) would have been detrimental to any production at the time (unless of course you were creating a film that the American Occupiers supported). cactus. 845 Posted March 28, 2011 (edited) Hijacking the thread without even asking for a hint. tsk tsk tsk edit: I'll go ahead and give one. It's pretty easy me thinks. One of the film's many songs revolves around this scene. Edited March 28, 2011 by TheCacti
