Jimdriver2
Hopefully this is the right place to put this. Finally got GTAIV yesterday in the Steam sale. I can run the game, but only on low settings and a low-ish resolution. On checking Can I run it it appears that the only thing really at fault is my graphics card, which is an ATI Radeon HD4350. The rest of the PC, AMD Athlon X4 630 Processor and 2 GB of RAM, are meant to be just fine. I've been looking around and it seems I can get a card at a reasonable price, but I can't work out what is best. I'm in the UK and ideally want to spend about £50-£60 Any suggestions would be great, thanks. OverTheBelow
What resolution are you playing at? At roughly that price point, the Radeon 5670 is (probably) the best option. If you wanted an nvidia card, then the 9800gt is pretty much the same, except it has slower VRAM. Jimdriver2
I'm currently playing at 1024x768 Ideally i'd like to play at 1280x1024 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/466766-graphics-card-recommendation-please/#findComment-1060279661 Share on other sites
Bernard Jazz
A 9800GT/5670 should handle 1280x1024 at medium settings, I get average about 35fps at the same res with a GTS 250 which is pretty much a rebranded 9800. The 5670 is a little cheaper however, you might be able to find one within your budget. yoječ
5670 is not worth recommending as it's far behind 9800GT in terms of performance. I'd suggest Radeon 4850 which is roughly the same price and it performs slightly better than 9800GT. FIS
Don't you dare to get a 9800GT that piece of sh*t sux more than the 8800GT I had! If u want a 9800, go for the GTX or GX2, else chose AMD/ATI. And dont choose XFX as vendor. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/466766-graphics-card-recommendation-please/#findComment-1060279917 Share on other sites
yoječ
9800GX2 is definitely out of the question too. It's unrealiable, it drains much power and emits a lot of heat, and most of all - 9800GX2 basically consists of two video card in SLi, which makes it quite problematic (some games, like GTA4, struggle to use full power of such cards). BLKMAG
5670 is not worth recommending as it's far behind 9800GT in terms of performance. Prove it. OP I suggest the ATI 5770, newegg has it for $130. If you can stretch your budget a bit a GTX 460 1GB would be better. yoječ
Okay, maybe not that far, but it's definitely slower. http://techpowerup.com/reviews/Axle/Radeon_HD_5670/29.html Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/466766-graphics-card-recommendation-please/#findComment-1060280168 Share on other sites

Jimdriver2
I think i'm going to go for the 1GB Radeon 5670, as it seems like a pretty good card that will last me (given my requirements) for a while, and it's not really that much more than I was planning on spending. One thing though, and this is a total noob question, but what difference to the various brands make? E.g. on ebuyer I could get a 5670 that was either a Sapphire, Asus or PowerHD (http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=Radeon+HD+5670&x=74&y=10). Which one is preferable, as I can't work out the difference apart from a slightly different amount in terms of cost. thanks. I'd go with the cheapest you can find. I like XFX. Vicetopia
9800GT's are rebranded 8800GT's with tri-SLi support. And the OP can't buy from NewEgg, he listed prices in British currency, which means he's obviously not from North America. Actually, he fully stated he was from the UK. No need to know the currency is in british pounds. Anyway, try to stretch the budget a bit more, for maybe a 5750 at the very least. 5670 isn't exactly the best card for the job. If its a reference card it doesn't matter what brand it is,the only difference is the sticker, warranty and support. Some cards are non reference design and may not be as good quality or as overclock able. I had bad luck with xfx non reference cards.
