Vice City crashes on launch - Windows 7 x64

So basically I've owned Vice City on steam for quite some time now and decided I wanted to play through it again, unfortunately when I try to launch it I get the two little intro videos and then the game crashes and I get the "gta-vc.exe has stopped working" message. I thought perhaps re-downloading a fresh copy of the game would work so I deleted all the files and let steam re-download them but that didn't work either

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, I know for a fact my hardware is fine since I've had it running on this PC before albeit not on this operating system.

I have searched through the forums for hours now and tried almost everything I can find to fix my problem but with no luck so I'm just hoping that someone can come along and save the day cryani.gif

If there's a gta_vc.set file in the User Files folder, delete it.

You can also try running the game in Windows XP/98 compatibility mode.

Well like I said I spent hours searching different forums for solutions, those 2 being the most obvious and the first things I tried. Thanks anyway

Are you sure no other software is interfering with the game? Like your anti-virus. Make sure you close all running applications before starting the game.

Also, disable UAC from Control Panel, if you haven't done that already.

Can you tell us what other solutions you have tried?

Yeah, I'm having the same issues as OP. I've tried disabling UAC, deleting the file in my documents, run in compability and to kill every other process by USER (myself). Still the game won't boot, instead it just enlarges everything on the desktop and freezes everything. Ctrl+Alt+Del makes me able to turn of the programme though. Also this window that says "unhandled exception" appears. I've tried trobleshooting on that window (at this forum) but it seem to be a very general window.

I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate

Nvidia Geforce 8600GT

AMD Athlon x2 2.6GHz

4 Gigabytes of ram (effectively 3.4)

I do not run on any mods, bought the game from steam.

Have you tried turning off Data Execution Prevention? I was having same issue until I added it to exception list.

System screen(windows key+pause/break)-->Advanced System Settings-->Performance Settings-->Data Execution Prevention click add, the add vc.exe

I purchased new prosessor of AMD 2.9GHZ, 4GB RAM, with 2GB Graphics,

I disabled UAC from control pane , delete vc.set from my document, Run GTA in compatibility mode of windows xp sp2 and also turn on DEP for gta_vc in windows 7 64bit. But i still unable to play vice city, it is continuously crashing after some time while running.

You should start your own thread rather then piggybacking on other peoples threads... Very easy to confuse their info with yours.

Have you read through the pinned threads? Lots of useful info in there.

Any error message when it crashes?

Is the game modded.....

Post this and any other petinent info in your help thread.

We can't give you any solution if you don't help us help you. What does actually happen? Do you get any error? Did the game work before? Have you installed any modifications? Tried removing the gta_vc.set file located in the Vice City User Files folder? Did you pirate your game or something?

Try to answer these questions and we might be able to help you.

Wait, how did you install the game without a setup? Is that even possible? Did you buy the game or where do you have it from?
