Need instructions to access multiplayer

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Please help me. I got GTAIV PC (downloaded from Amazon), and I need STEP BY STEP instructions on how to access the mulitplayer. I created an account on windowslive.com and another one with "Rockstar social club", but I don't know how to access multiplayer via LIVE. I get the message that I'm not connected to Windows Live, and I don't know what "connected" means anyway. Can it be caused by my using different email addresses to register with Windows Live and Rockstar?

Thanks for your help,

Nik

I did as you said, and, after a LIVE update was installed, all my single-player saved progress is gone, and I am forced to start a new game. I can't check multiplayer because I haven't got a cell phone yet. Incidentally, my old music files are still there.

Is it possible to recover my saves from the last game?

Your single player progress can't just disappear like that. It's probably because you were playing with an offline profile and your saves are located in a different folder. You'll need to move the savefile to the folder corresponding to your online profile.

First step is to locate your savegames folder.

Windows XP SP3 - C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

Windows Vista - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

Windows 7 - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

Tell us the names of the folders inside the above mentioned location. If I'm not wrong, there should be one 'user_invalid' folder and two 'user_****' folders. One of the 'user_****' folders will contain your offline savefile which you need to copy over to the other 'user_****' folder.

No need to start over. Try Xliveless. Copy the xlive.dll file to your GTA IV folder. Your save should load now.

It disables GFWL though, so you won't be able to get any achievements or play MP. Whenever you feel like going online, just delete the xlive.dll and you should be good to go.
