Cannot Patch v1.0.7.0 to v1.0.4.0

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to patch Steam's GTAIV v1.0.7.0 to v1.0.4.0 in order to try out ENB v0.081.

I downloladed and ran GTAIV_TU5.exe

I start the game and get a strange window with the letter G in the title bar and the letter R in the text area.

I would show the window here but do not know how. I am pretty much a noob to computers. Have just built my first one.

Please do not let this stop you from helping me as I will learn what I need to know. I simply need a shove in the right direction.

Thanks

OK, Now I am more baffled. If anyone can tell me how to safely and legally install the v1.0.4.0 patch onto my steam game please advise. Thanks

I believe the only way to do that, is to get the Retail (DVD) version and install the game that way, then intall the 1.0.4.0 patch to it and when it asks if you want to update to the latest patch, click No or cancel or whatever along those lines it gives you for options. The retail version is only $16 at Wal-Mart.com now a days, so it is dirt cheap and gives much more flexibilty than the Steam version does....Here's proof it is only $16.12 at Wal-Mart.com, and I think they still have 97cent shipping rate too, for more savings...Just a heads up..

You would first have to turn off Steam auto update for GTAIV, then someone would have to create a downgrade patch for version 1.0.4.0 to 1.0.7.0 but even then I don't know which executables would you use as there are probably some differences between the Steam and retail version.

Thanks for the replies.

@Radioman: I think Girishb may be correct about the retail version being 1.0.7.0. At the very least I would be flipping a coin but as you say it's only $16.

@ Mkey82: I believe I can move the game from where Steam places it and still run it. I did this with Fallout 3. As you say I would then have to have a downgrade patch. After reading Boris's thread I was left with the impression that this was common practice.

@Girishb: The 1.0.7.0 game runs fine without enb. I gathered from this sight that if I was to try ENB pack it should be on version 1.0.3.0 or 1.0.4.0. I have not tried ENB on the 1.0.7.0 yet.

It seems there is a much steeper learning curve for using mods with this game. My only previous experience using mods is Fallout 3 and in comparison that was a piece of cake. I figured I would try to start with what everyone says works. I have a pretty good rig and the game looks so much better than on the consoles I would be statisfied with just AA.

I will try ENB on 1.0.7.0 and see what happens.

Thank you all.

Sorry if I am breaking the rules by replying to myself but ENB works on v1.0.7.0. There is no AA however. I changed the resolution to 1920 by 1080 and played with a few AA numbers but it is obviously not working. But that is for another post after some research I guess.

I still would love to know if anyone has been able to "downgrade patch" GTAIV v1.0.7.0 to 1.0.3.0 or 1.0.4.0 ?

Thanks all.

I am now off to learn as much about enb.ini manipulation as time permits. suicidal.gif
