I guess it just seems like a pretty predictable "story comes full circle" ending to the trilogy to me.

If you think about it, TDK had no real plot continuation from BB. No real mention of al Ghul and Scarecrow only got a cameo. That's why I'm thinking the plot of TDKR will have no real continuation from TDK or BB. It will be stand alone.

Maybe.

I think that's really what I'm expecting from this, and hoping for.

IMO this generation of Batman films are the best ones yet, with much more richer stories.

they do need to change that title though.

Tim Burtons two batman films were pretty decent smile.gif Jack Nicholson is the best joker

Seconded.

I think going down the League of Shadows/Al Ghul path just doesn't seem what Nolan stood for concerning his films; it's just too predictable.

It seems like a lot of movies that are third installments try too hard to cut back into the first movie to make a full circle. But I don't think that one has to reintroduce elements from the first movie to make a story come full circlel that's why many people believe in Nolan so much. What makes a Batman story is, well, the evolution of Batman. You don't need an organization or a daughter that links to the first movie to get this through.

The title may not be the best ever but it certainly won't effect my enjoyment of the movie. I absolutely loved the first two films and I wasn't even a fanboy going into the series. I only went to see the first one because I was invited to go see it and I had nothing better to do that day. Needless to say I was blown away by it.

I'm definitely looking forward to this film.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is now, according to Variety, cast in TDKR.

After confirming that Joseph Gordon-Levitt joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises, Variety is back with another big scoop. According to the trade, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises. Alberto Falcone (aka The Holiday Killer) is the son of Carmine Falcone, who was played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins. Perhaps this is what Gary Oldman was referring to when he said that Christopher Nolan brings the story back to Batman Begins. What do you think about Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new role? Sound off in the comments!

Update: Perhaps this is still just a major rumor at this point? Jeff Sneider of Variety tweeted the following statements on Twitter:

Let me stress that NO ONE with the authority to do so has CONFIRMED this info. Not WB, not reps and certainly not Nolan or other producers. Regardless, I trust my sources & stand by my story 100%.

While this isn’t “official” news, I think we can stand by Variety’s sources and trust that we’ll see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises.

I can never take a rumour like this seriously til I hear it from the horse's (ie Nolan's) mouth. Interesting.

Edit: Alright, it sounds genuine. Having to explain the backstories of Bane, Catwoman and now Falcone Jnr is going to be annoying surely.

Some official casting news.

Last week Variety reported that independent film star Juno Temple was up for a role in The Dark Knight Rises and today we have confirmation. According to Variety, Temple has landed the supporting role — which is being described as “a street-smart Gotham girl”. The Dark Knight Rises begins filming in about a month, and Juno Temple will join the rest of the cast later this summer.

It'll be interesting to see Pittsburgh's skyline in the film. And as far as I know they're still going to use Chicago and New York as well, if I remember correctly. I also remember hearing that they'd also be filming in New Orleans. If they mixed all of those skylines in the movie, they'd make Gotham look like the world's f*cking metropolis.

Vanilla Shake

Nothing major, but Nestor Carbonell who portrayed Mayor Anthony Garcia in TDK will be returning to reprise his role.

Also, there's possibility that there will be a MAJOR action sequence filmed in Pittsburgh.

BIG casting news. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is John Blake and Marion Cotillard is Miranda Tate.

After months of speculation we finally have confirmation on Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard. Warner Bros. just issued a press release confirming that Joseph Gordon will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon. Marion Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

Check out the full press release:

BURBANK, Calif.– Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster “Inception.”

The director stated, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”

Heading the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane.

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Seems that the film officially starts shooting May 6th in India.

Earlier this week we learned that The Dark Knight Rises would be filming in India. Today, The India Times has many more details to add. According to their report, Christopher Nolan and his main crew will arrive in India on May 1st. Christian Bale is expected to arrive on the 4th or 5th, and filming will take place for two days on May 6th and 7th. They will be shooting at Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort, which is pictured above. No other actors were mentioned… perhaps only Christian Bale is needed for the two days in India?

First photo from production in India shows a...pit. A Lazarus Pit?

A Batman-News.com reader (who wishes to remain anonymous) sent in the first set photo from The Dark Knight Rises’ set in India. The photo appears to be of a giant well covered with a green screen in the middle of the desert just outside the Mehrangarh Fort. Speculation is already soaring around the internet about what this may be used for… I’ll let you guys talk about what you think it could be in the comments. The two day shoot in India is scheduled to wrap up tomorrow.

This was yesterday, so filming in India wrapped up today.

Sorry for all the double posts.

Bunch of set photos from India

Possible spoilers in that link, but it was more than just Christian Bale who traveled to India to film, and there's some "confirmation" regarding this green-screened "pit".

Yeah, as much as I was hoping this would just stand alone in a way like TDK did, it really is inevitable that this will be another "bring the story back to the first film" storyline that typically blows up in everyone's face (i.e. Spider-Man 3), though it is Nolan, so I am still psyched. I'm just really f*cking hoping they don't throw Talia into the mix and that Catwoman is an enemy, not an ally.

Also hoping we'll still see Falcone's son, Alberto somewhere in the film, to keep the mafia in the game.

The Dark Knight Rises just wrapped up in India, and now it’s moving to the next location. I’ve received word from multiple sources that The Dark Knight Rises will be filming next week on St. John Street in London. The shoot will last about four days, from May 16th until the 20th. Local businesses in the area have been told that they’ll hear gunshots during this time. It’s likely that they’ll film at The Farmiloe Building on St. John Street — this was used as the Gotham City Police Station in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Shootout at Gordon's MCU? Would be different from the Joker's planted bomb in the holding cells from TDK.

Bunch of set photos (mostly of GCPD patrol cars and SWAT vans) from the current filming in London, with a few updates.

Plus,

The following article was written by Vincent Marone, a friend of Batman-News.com.

Someone call a doctor, because the Bat-world has been stunned stiff with possibilities over the latest breaking news. Reports started creeping onto the net late last night that Israeli actor Alon Aboutboul has been cast as a “main villain” in The Dark Knight Rises. The news first broke on Israeli website XNet and was later “confirmed” by Aboutboul’s wife Shir Bilya on Twitter. But who will Aboutboul be playing?

Sources say that the actor’s role will be one of a “particularly evil mad scientist”. Considering the hype surrounding the silver screen debut of one Batman’s most formidable adversaries, posts on message boards, Facebook, and Twitter are screaming for Doctor Hugo Strange. The speculation surrounding the involvement of Hugo Strange in Christopher Nolan’s final visit to Gotham City ran feverishly rampant just a few short months ago. Robin Williams and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, both Nolan alum, had been rumored to be taking on the part of the menacing doctor. The fever went so far as to cause a frenzy of epic proportions over Williams’ March 3rd appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman in which he sported a rather Strange-looking beard.

Just a week removed from The Dark Knight Rises’ first official day of shooting at the world famous Mehrangarh Fort in India, which snuffed all memories involving Hugo Strange like a starving flame, the news of Alon Aboutboul’s casting has breathed new life into the old Doctor, causing the flame to spread like wildfire all over the web. Could it be Strange? Could it be an unknown character born from the mind of the brothers Nolan? Could it even be the insane scientist from Peña Dura responsible for the experiment that introduced Bane to the venom that turned him into the hulking specimen we know him to be? The answer may not be revealed until July 20,2012.

Until Aboutboul’s involvement in the film is confirmed in a press release by Warner Bros., the rumors will haunt us like ghosts bathed in grimacing shrouds. Will it take the presence of a Doctor to cure our ails? Alon Aboutboul has played small roles in American films such as Rambo: First Blood Part III (1988), Munich (2005), and Body of Lies (2008) which starred Christopher Nolan’s latest leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio. Most recently, Aboutboul has appeared on television series such as Fringe, The Mentalist, and ABC’s Castle.

http://batman-news.com/2011/05/13/alon-abo...k-knight-rises/

Alon Aboutboul possibly playing a "mad scientist"? Hugo Strange, the doctor who knows Batman's true identity, or Peña Dura, the scientist who is responsible for Bane's venom that increases his muscle mass, strength and insanity?

What do you guys think of this? I'm thinking Peña Dura. He doesn't seem like he'd fit as Strange, plus the movie's already got its full share of villains (Bane, Catwoman, young Ra's al Ghul) and possible villains (Talia al Ghul, Ra's al Ghul's daughter who may now be leading the League of Shadows, to avenge her father's death from Batman Begins and continue in his mission to destroy Gotham).

Also, Warner Bros. official press release.

Filming will take place on three continents, with an all-star cast working under the direction of Christopher Nolan

BURBANK, CA, May 19, 2011 – Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake.

Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

In helming “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christopher Nolan is utilizing IMAX® cameras even more extensively than he did on “The Dark Knight,” which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX® cameras. The results were so spectacular that the director wanted to expand the use of the large-format cameras for this film.

The screenplay for “The Dark Knight Rises” is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is being produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. “The Dark Knight” is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Behind the scenes, “The Dark Knight Rises” reunites the director with several of his longtime collaborators, all of whom worked together on the “The Dark Knight.” The creative team includes director of photography Wally Pfister, who recently won an Oscar® for his work on Nolan’s “Inception”; production designer Nathan Crowley; editor Lee Smith; and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). In addition, Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, who both won Oscars® for the effects in “Inception,” will supervise the visual and special effects, respectively. The music will be composed by Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King”).

The locations for “The Dark Knight Rises” span three continents and include the American cities of Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles, as well as sites in India, England and Scotland.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures. Slated for release on July 20, 2012, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Production is heading to Scotland.

"Last week when Warner Bros. issued a press release for The Dark Knight Rises, there were very few surprises. However, one bit of news from the announcement that we hadn’t heard before was that Christopher Nolan would be taking his last Batman film to Scotland. Now, thanks to The Daily Record, we know why:

Glasgow is to be transformed into Gotham City in the latest Batman film sequel.

Director Christopher Nolan will use shots filmed around Glasgow in some of exterior scenes in the final instalment of his Batman trilogy.

Nolan, who previously used Chicago to depict Gotham, wanted to use several different locations to create a Gotham nobody would recognise. A source revealed: “He plans to use various cities to provide a mash-up of what Gotham will look like.

“Glasgow was location-scouted for the last film Dark Knight, though in the end it wasn’t used. This time, Chris already has several scenes in mind.

“The city centre architecture is hugely impressive. But he will be filming in secret.
