R3N.Y.
Hello. So I got GTA IV finally. I think I have quite powerful laptop: Processor: Intel® Core i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHzMemory: 4096MB RAMGPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5165 (1064 MB)Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) Every game I tried (even the new, 2010 ones) runs smoothly on highest or high graphic settings so I thought that GTA IV will be good, too. When I use Auto Configure in Graphics settings, all settings go surprisingly high. But when I launch the game, every two or three seconds I have pertty notable lag. When I lower graphic settings to around medium, I get the same lag each 2-3 seconds. Same when I set the lowest possible resolution, texture details, ...everything. Benchmark runs smoothly on settings set by Auto Configure and on medium settings, I think that on low it would be good, too. I got used to lags when I played games on my weak desktop PC, but this makes playing impossible. Anyone here has experience with this issue? Is my computer too weak? (I'm not sure because on package there are requirements for desktop PC's, but I think that my laptop would pass it) How can I solve that to play peacefully? mkey82
HD 5165 is below the system requirements and it will not run GTAIV normally. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/466194-game-lag/#findComment-1060267808 Share on other sites
R3N.Y.
OK thanks. I didn't think that GTA has such bloody requirements. I can run any other games with great graphic settings (Crysis, Just Cause 2, Prototype, Split Second...), so I thought that GTA will be fine, too. This topic may be closed now, TY for answer. mkey82
GTAIV demands a lot from your system, loads of raw processing power and it can't be compared to above stated games. bealzebubble
I have exactly the same problem, only I have a desktop with a Phenom II X6 2 2800, GeForce GTX 470 (1280mb) and 4GB ram on Windows 7 64-bit Not even playable on the lowest of the lowest settings. I have looked around a lot but no one seems to have an answer for this. radioman
HD 5165 is below the system requirements and it will not run GTAIV normally. Just curious, How is a 5165 lower than the Minimum requirements, when the Recommended card it says is a 512MB ATI 3870-which the last time I checked, 5165 is a larger number than 3870 and 1024MB is larger than 512MB.? So, how is 5165 lower than 3870(the Recommended ATI card)? But, On topic, If you lower your settings to the lowest one for all settings and use a lower resolution, you should be able to play fine. DocMenach
That is a common misconception. Just because 5165 is a bigger number than 3870 does not mean that it is a better graphics card. ATI Graphics card model numbers should not be looked at as the number as a whole. The second number out of the four (xXxx) is probably the most important number because it shows the market designation for the card. 9=High-end gaming, 8=Mid level Gaming, 7=Entry level Gaming, 6 and below isn't even really designed for gaming. The 5165 is a newer card, but it is not designed for gaming, so it will be unable to play most modern games. A 3870 is an older card, but is actually designed for gaming and will be able to play most modern games, though not with settings turned up due to it's age. mkey82
It helps to know something about anything before you start making comments http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html Basically any card below x600 will not be a gaming card.
