rustler
Hi All, I have original game disc for GTA SA - no cracks and no mods. Windows 7 64bit, Nvidia 8600 and meet all the system requirements. I have downloaded and installed newest graphics, sound, keyboard & mouse drivers but for some reason I can play GTA SA just fine, but I just can't use the mouse in game and even in the menus. Sometimes after restart, or idle for some time and can use the mouse. Using XP mode with admin privs. Any help please? lil weasel
Some references: Have you tried running the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode? That's the first thing to try when dealing with mouse issues on Vista. Vista is close to Win 7. Maybe it's got something to do with the affinity of your CPU if it's a quad core:Start the game, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del (this minimizes the game and opens up Task Manager), go to Processes, right-click on gta_sa.exe > Set Affinity > Uncheck all except CPU 0. Now return to the game and see if you can click again. Other's FIX: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=463188 http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=452586 http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=438448 http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=420365 http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=373790 http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=299949 http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=261394 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/466156-gta-sa-on-windows-7/#findComment-1060267134 Share on other sites
rustler
Hi lil weasel Thanks for your quick reply. I have tried Win98 mode also, but that still didn't work. Will try the CPU affinity tonight when at home. Sounds more like that this might be the problem as I have a quad core machine. Might also be because I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. Thanks again - much appreciated. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/466156-gta-sa-on-windows-7/#findComment-1060267148 Share on other sites
radioman
What version of the game do you have?-V1 or V2? Cause V2 works great with Windows 7 without the need for compatibility mode or anything. I have V2, and it works great on my Windows 7 laptop w/ an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core, 3GB Ram, Nvidia 8200 w/1407MB vram. I get 35+ fps with the Frame Limiter OFF on all High settings(some maxed out settings). So, if you have V1, you may need to install the V1.1 Patch to make it like V2. Just a heads up. Tory542
Heya Rustler, I have a fix Just recently i "aquired" a copy of this game and i was having the exact same problem as you. I am running the same specs as you, 7 x64 and a 4x core prossesor. So far you are half way to the solution, firstly go to the GTA SA .exe file werever you installed it. Right click it then go into compatibility then choose to run it in 98/ME compatible mode then hit apply. Now go to the SA user files located in something like C:Users/your name/GTA san andreas/ There should be a .set file, Delete it. Now launch up GTA SA, load a save and first off you will notice that the mouse didnt work in the menu and on first load only works horizontally. Thats normal. Press the ESC or pause button then exit the pause menu. It should now work perfectly but though sometimes has its moments. Also you only have to do this once, also again you dont need to backup the .set file its just a settings file nothing else. Krawk
I have had a windows update one time create the same problem, mouse issues. When you alt+tab to the desktop the mouse pointer gets stuck to a corner of the screen but then when you alt+tab back to the game it's fine. I simple restored my pc to an earlier time and then installed the updates a couple at a time.
